  • Want to know the BEST way to setup your new Panasonic S5 mark ii for video? Well in this video I've done a deep dive into the settings and custom menu buttons to show you exactly how I've setup the Lumix S5ii for professional video work to get the most out of this brand new camera.
    This tutorial was shot on my own copy of this camera which I paid for myself. I know information can be hard to find on how to set these cameras up so I wanted to make an in depth guide as to how I've set it up.

    Well done mate, Very helpful. Saved me some time and effort. This camera is such a great deal in the uk. £2090 after a £300 trade in bonus with two lenses in a kit. The 50mm 1.8 and the 20-60 kit lens. If you had to but the lenses used you would pay around £750 so working backwards that makes the camera body £1340! Awesome. I wold recommend this camera to anyone getting into a system as they wont need to upgrade for pro work for quite some time. Well done, finally Panasonic. The S1H2 will be crazy good once it gets that n ew focus system. Still don’t know what took them so long had they introduced it in the last generation they would have sold a ton more units and got more market share. Anyway it’s here now!

      @@RoryandCasey makes sense: c1 open gate, c2 4K 60p and c3 ready for slow motion…. Interesting to note that you have no preset for 4k 30p as you probably extract from the open gate which seems to be the priority format.
      Also no preset for FHD 180p VFR slow motion as you probably get more flexibility from the FHD 120p.
      I very much appreciated your function buttons and quick menu features allocation, after further thoughts and comparing to others, I realize that you have put a lot of experience on those.

    Maybe you can help with a configuration problem. I think that most of us would set shutter angle ONCE and then forget about it, since a change during a shoot would alter the look of the footage. But it appears that the only dial settings put shutter speed (angle) on either the front or back dials. I would want aperture and ISO instead. Is there any way to do this? I don't want shutter angle on ANY button where it can accidentally get changed.
    Also, I don't see where I can set aperture or shutter angle to a function button.
    I think I am spoiled by Blackmagic!

    Thank you for taking the time and making this video!!! :) I bought the s5ii last week for video work and I really like it! I am wondering though, when I work in the Manual video mode, I can´t get the automatic exposure compensation/correction to stop jumping around! (in your video it happens at 26:35 for example) It just stops changing when ISO is in Auto setting, but I just want the exposure to be fixed... I have looked everywhere in the menus and the manual but cant´ find an answer... Do you have any idea you can get a 100% manual mode for exposure? Thanks! I am having the exact same issue but with a difference.... in manual mode, the exposure keeps changing... I have everything in manual ... aperture, iso, shutter everything is in manual yet when I move my cam from a brighter part to a darker part ... the darker part automatically becomes bright. I saw the footage on my PC and it is the same. Any solution on how I can stop it will be a lifesaver. Also, I charged my new battery for the first time yesterday for almost 4 and a half hours and it was still charging. I was charging in the camera, but the red light on the cam never disappeared. Pls save my life !!! 😀

      I'm still using V30 sandisk extreme cards and even at 5.9k they are still recording fine. It's all to do with the bitrate and none of the files have high enough bitrates that the older v30 cards won't work

      Yep it’s one of the unfortunate quirks of the entire S series. My work around is to have my video modes saved to the custom buttons. If I’m in C1 with Vlog and then switch back to any photo mode it won’t bring the vlog with it.

    Hi Rory,
    New sub here. Please do a night photoshoot. I'm willing to get back into astro game and was looking to select what brand to go with. My initial thought was sony a7iii, but it's old. Lumix though, its a brand new camera, competitive price, but is it really good for night shots? I'm into night street photography as well as astrophotography. Maybe you could drop a few lines with thoughts about this.
    Cheers and best of luck!

    • @RoryandCasey
      @RoryandCasey  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This new s5 actually uses the same sensor as the previous s5 which handles night photography very very well. I found turning the in camera noise reduction off actually resulted in less hot pixels on long camera exposures for Astro.
      For night street photography it will be great. I just used it at a wedding for video and in low light even backlit in low light the af was grabbing faces perfectly. It can pretty much see in the dark with minimal noise I’d say on part with an a7siii
      Way better than anything canon makes that’s for sure.

      @@RoryandCasey Oh cool, thanks for your speedy feedback.
      I am trying to figure out Lumix lenses and from what I can tell it's the S series lenses that I have to go for.
      Which lenses are you using for astro? I'm looking at a fixed 18mm f1.8, but saw a review that it distorts the stars.
      Perhaps advice on what has worked for you well in terms of lenses over all? I'm thinking getting some thing wide as well as some thing mid range, like 24-70 for day to day use (family and landscape). Just not sure if I should get the 2.8 or stick with a less expensive f4.
      Thanks again for taking the time. Your advice is priceless.

    • @RoryandCasey
      @RoryandCasey  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@edgarso3175 for Astro my preference is to go wider than 18 and also to use a fully manual lens. There are some great Laowa lenses that have very little distortion that can go super wide that are L mount
      For a mid range zoom... the 24-70 pro is an incredible lens and one of my all time favourite lenses to use. It's really expensive though. I'm using it professionally so I can justify it but if I wasn't I'd even look into the sigma 28-70 f2.8 especially now that sigma glass autofocuses well.
