My C class 2013, needed a new rear subframe, rotted from the inside out, apparently its a known issue on 204's. Mercedes replaced it FOC luckily, apart from that mines been good.
Same here had it done twice. Had an 09 w204 but someone hit the car and it was written off. Bought a 2012 w204 and had the same problem. Thankfully mercedes replaced it FOC on both cars 👍
Alan, I could not help but reflect on the "cost" of technology when watching this one. 40 odd quid to replace an LED mirror indicator. Firstly old cars did not have them and the indicators older cars do have use bulbs that cost a quid. Food for thought indeed. Thanks for posting, Andy
I’m not sure if it’s just me but the right hand side of that gearbox when you were under the car looked like all the bolts weren’t there! Maybe someone’s fiddled with it in the past
You're lucky with those brake pipes, they certainly do rot out in that area which you identified. Indeed the only way you find out is once they've burst!! Ive seen it many times on these, albeit mainly the prefacelift W204 unlike this facelift model. ALWAYS worth checking when doing a service on one. You can get away with checking them during an MOT as well if you prise the undertray away without removing it, knowing what you're looking for.
Mate had exactly the same problem think it was a lug in the gearbox that breaks That a spring fits on cost him around a grand to fix including a new clutch and flywheel
The boot lid springs are adjustable, pull the trim away from the back of the boot and you'll see the springs can be located in different holes. Parts like indicators can be got from ebay a lot cheaper or a salvage dealer, I wouldn't pay 50 quid for a indicator that's for sure. Interested to see your next video.
The blue motion is the code they gave for the engine, (651) being more efficient than the previous 646 engine, none of these had adblue, as someone has already stated, issues with timing chains, at the back by the flywheel, and also heavy on injectors and can have issues as the blocks have wet liners in them, other than that, a good engine, not the most refined engine, but a pretty good one, I have the estate version, they drive really well, but mine is an auto 👍
I have one of these, six speed manual 2.2 diesel twin turbo. 110,000 kilometres. Only issue is a failed wheel sensor for ABS. But ABS is only for people that never leart to drive properly. Nice car to drive 4.5 litres per 100 kilometres. Apparently mine is the only one in Australia as its a personal import with a manual transmission.
Well this is it despite Mercs having a reputation being expensive to service and repair there's plenty about so a good chance of getting second hand replacement parts rather than repairing them cutting the bill. Silverlake at Southampton has tens of thousands of second hand car parts off the shelf.
Timing Chain Issues !!! this C class and E class generation suffer from known timing chain issues, and with the chain being at the rear of the engine, are very very expensive to replace, as its an engine out job, there is a timing chain tensioner upgrade. It may well benefit you to see if yours has the upgrade, if not will be worth while spending the £100 on the upgraded tensioner. Manuals are very good, I have had one, but most prefer the auto. All in all good cars I have one with 210k miles.
@@hughjarse4627 Yeah, I've seen that done, but if your timing chian guides are broken or damaged, you could end up having to do it all again. or even worse destroying your engine. Just out of curiousity what year is your car, and how many miles has it done ?
Cars like this are great cars, but because they're not ULEZ compliant you can't take them to the major towns and cities, and with more restrictions to come, we'll start to see these just being scrap.
Morning Alan, it’s a bit last minute but are you working today? I’m currently travelling to Peterborough and I’m 4 miles away from your work, would be ok to pop by to shake your hand ? It’s not a problem if it’s an inconvenient.
Theres me thinking when you pointed to the gear stick the problem was that its a manual and not an auto! Had a similar issue with my Mk3 Galaxy (mk4 mondeo) where it wouldnt select 1,2 or R. After all the cables were replaced it was box off time and turns out that 2 of the segments on thr clutch plate had broken off and were stopping the selector forks getting far enough back to select those gears with the engine running. Still I'm a sucker for punishment and picking up a mk4 galaxy soon with the 2L 180 engine.
The engine cover missing or did you remove it, I nearly lost mine after a service luckily I always check everything when home, called them back immediately, the service technician forgot to replace it.
To put it into reverse you have to push down on the gear lever, as there is a lock to stop accidental selection, I didn’t see you push down? For the first to second gear thing, is it ok on the road? I had a c220 and if it wouldn’t go into gear, you had to let the clutch back up, then try again and it would be smooth
Think i need a new 5speed auto gearbox in my w204,it takes an age to go from 2nd to 3rd upwards,if i put my foot down,it revs its nuts off to 5,500rpm before changing gear from 2nd to 3rd,does anyone have any idea what could cause that, its a 2009 c220 cdi sport, any help would be appreciated
Brand new support, new bellhousing bolts and 2 missing at 17:23. What's the betting its had a new clutch fitted incorrectly or someone's been messing and not bled it correctly.
Al, do you only work on the taxi company Mondeo's or do you take on other work mechanicing ? I have a intermittent vibration issue with my 2016 mkV Mondeo , feels like it's coming from the front somewhere. Have had it looked at by a few mechanics and Sandicliffe Ford in Leicester and they say they can't find anything wrong. I've had new tyres all round, wheels balanced and even replaced a buckled front offside alloy, still there. I can feel it when driving, strange thing is, it's not always there. Would be extremely grateful if you could fit me in to see if you can suss out what the problem is. I live in Leicester so not far from you. Thanks , Daz.
Hi Mark, well, yes, the only thing I can think of is that I've hit kerbs at some point and wonder if a strut or pinion is slightly bent. The car didn't show any vibration when I bought it so it's most likely something I've done.
A Mercedes/ bmw / Audi all look lovely but they’re not what they used to be and bits literally fall off them , we had a relatively modern Merc a few years ago, nice enough car but riddled with issues and gearbox (auto) packed in at 58k and Mercedes wanted £8k plus to fix… we said Noo way and got shut.
My friend owned one of them, same year. Well screwed together cars and good on fuel too, although foot operated parking brake takes some getting used to. I remember replacing the front indicator bulb was a real pain and he had to buy very looong pliers to get to it. It is a shame they cover rear suspension arms with those plastic covers that collect water and make them rot. Cheers for the video Alan!
I would be a bit disappointed with that Merc on only 68000 not what I would expect on such an expensive car when new, but then I guess you did it get kinda cheap.
Never ever 67000 mls. Those cars very relieble. Normal there is no wear on the seats ore whereever bevor 200000 km . This car Must have much much more than 67000 mls. I think 167000………ore Even more
Go on, let us see you fix the gearbox fault! See it as a challenge. 😄👍
Alan, seems like a few people want you to strip the gearbox, me too! Go for it.
You could do a video on taking the gearbox apart to source the problem.
Was going to say the same thing

Just had my 2007 w204 subframe replaced foc this week too. Incredible they do this on a 16 year old car. I'm not complaining though!

Rare gearboxes go wrong maybe its all around town low mileage, but then there's the tyres usually worn on roundabouts.
Wonder if it towed
i was just about to post a comment on missing bolts also pays to read comments I guess..
True i saw that too
I saw it it to
Rear subframe check them as they rust and there is a recall on it check brake lines too

Look forward to the finished project.

It's amazing how many people can't tell the difference between vinyl and leather seats.
The seats in this car definitely aren't leather .
Had the same problem with mine it was the gear selector cadge in the box part from mercedes is around £360
Given the missing bolts on the gearbox it maybe someone has already had a look at fixing it.
Will you take the old Gearbox apart to see what the problem was and to learn how they come apart for another time?
Temperature sensor 4 exhaust system (cylinder bank 1) has a short circuit to positive.
Any Idea which sensor is it in this type of engine? Ta
