      Keep in mind that the weapons you are comparing are seperated by two decades!
      Supplement: 300 m is considered close range for a sniper rifle btw. 😉

    What an awesome piece of equipment you have there. I have a Steyr .308 Scout that I have used for many years deer hunting. It has taken many a fine buck and a real treat to carry. What I like about the Steyr is the action and safety combination. The roller three position safety with the grey keyed locking button feature is ultra safe, plus being able to remove the bolt easily, unload while still on safe, etc. The bolt handle release on the fire position that rotates the bolt handle upward for ease of access really helps a quick second shot. Steyr makes some great stuff. Would love to see them make a 6.5 PRC with a carbon wrapped barrel. That would be the ultimate rifle.

    For all the shooters that have negative opinions on scopes with a mixed Mil-radian/MOA system. The arithmetic calculations are not that difficult. If using meters use the following constants, MOA = 2.91cm, or, M-rad = 10cm. If using yards use these constants: MOA = 1.047", or, M-rad = 3.6". The symbol of " is used to show inches.
    To calculate number of clicks take the range to target in 100's of meters, or, 100's of yards. Example: Lilly calculates a 300 meter distance. There are three each 100 meter units in 300 meters. Lilly uses a MOA turret so calculate as follows: 3 x 2.91 = 8.73 to determine amount of MOA's at 300 meters. Next take the ballistic drop of your bullet. There is 48cm of bullet drop in the RWS 165-grain (10.7-gram) bullet. So all there is to do is 48 ÷ 8.73 = 5.498. Round up to 5.5. Index 5.5 MOA's on your scope. Just use one of the four constants to make the calculation you need. Just remember, if using meters use metric based numbers. If using yards then yard based numbers. Never mix meters and yards. Use only one system.
    There are lots of arithmatic formulas on the web to help you calculate windage as needed too.
    Been using a Leopold Mil-dot reticle/MOA turret scope with M-1 target turrets, .25-MOA clicks, for over a decade. No issues.
    Range finding for a second focal plane scope is easy. Just go to the highest power to determine mils on target. Then just do this: (height of target in either yards or meters x 1000)÷(number of mil dots on target) = distance to target. A Roe Deer is 1 meter in height. You see 5 mils on target. So (1x1000)/5 = 125 meters to the Roe deer. Lilly has taken a lot of Roe deer at this range.
    If you need to change from M-rads to MOA just multiply M-rads by 3.44 to convert. For MOA's to M-rads divide by 3.44.
    It's easy schmeezy stuff! Plus there are Apps to do all the work for you.

      Lilly uses a Meopta rifle scope, ZD 6-24X56 RD, with the MilDot-2 reticle, has .25 MOA turret adjustments. Tube Diameter: 30 mm, focal lens is 54mm and the ocular lens is 38mm. Considered a very good scope. Made in the Czech Republic.

    I know that rifle from the Wr. Neustadt shooting range. It is outstanding. I had 25mm groups on 300 Meters with it, but the rifle is better the i can shoot. With a real expert shooter it is good for 12-15mm groups on 300 Meter. Specially, when you use handloaded match ammo.

    According to Stralok indexing 45.75 MOA should get you to 1000 meters. That is a long way.

      I think you've maybe jumped to conclusions. These SBS based rifles(like the SSG08) have barrels that are threaded. You're thinking of the old SSG69 being pressed in. Even the 69s can be barreled. My younger brother bought a brand new one from CDNN and re-barreled it. It's now a 6x47. Anyone who can thread a custom rifle barrel can thread the receiver of the SSG69.....

    MOA please

    • @whomagoose6897
      @whomagoose6897 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The scope Lilly uses is the Meopta ZD 6-24x56 RD, Mil/MOA, 30mm Tube, with an lluminated Mildot-2 Reticle. Mil/MOA means the reticle is Mil-radian based and the turret adjustments are MOA based. Lilly indexes the turrets in 0.25 MOA per click.
      There should be about 54-cm of ballistic bullet drop at 300 meters for the .308 winchester bullet. Lilly's scope is zeroed at 100-meters.
      For scope calculation at 300 meter distance: 3 x 2.91= 8.73; 54 ÷ 8.73 = 6.1855670103092. Round down to 6. Lilly indexes 6 MOA's on the turret and shoots at the 300 meter target.
      If you use Mil-radian turrets just divide MOA's by 3.44 to convert to Mils. So a 6-MOA adjustment equals a 1.7-Mil adjustment. For Mil to MOA conversion multiply by 3.44. This conversion is only approximate. But, it's a quick and easy conversion.
      Calculating this shot in Mils: 3 x 10 = 30, 54 ÷ 30 = 1.8-Mils. Notice there is only 0.1 mil difference between calculated adjustment and the MOA/Mil division/multiplication technique, 1.7-mils v 1.8-mils.

    • @whomagoose6897
      @whomagoose6897 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Superdude70 : A quick conversation from mils to MOA is by using 3.44, this is a generally accepted as a conversation rate. There are engineers with TH-cam videos that know significant amounts of trigonometry to give you proofs of the conversation. Some people just use 3.5 to make it easier. Then round the product to the clicks available on your scope. turrets. This is only an appropriation so I usually just convert Mils to MOA. Reversing the conversion back to Mils doesn't work from the numbers I round to get the data for the scope turret. Scope turrets don't have adustments that are equal for Mils to MOA. Most of my friends have Mil-dot reticles based on Mil-radians, Mil/Mil scopes. I use a mixed Mil/MOA scope. Mil-dot reticle and MOA turrets. Usually the conversion is only used for windage adjustment. When others spot for my impacts I get Mil-radian corrections. Everything is multiplied by 3.44. If a windage correction of one Mil is made, I put 3.5 MOA my scope.
      An easy way to check for yourself is to get the Stralok ballistic app. The Stralok Pro version is most useful. Stralok calculates both Mils and MOA.
      There are 3.2832 Radians in a circle. So you may have gotten the 3.83 from that.

    • @whomagoose6897
      @whomagoose6897 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Superdude70 : This is the basis for converting Mils to MOA's. You get similar, not exact, numbers from meters or yards.
      For Yards, there is 3.6 inches in one Mil-radian at 100 yards, and, 1.047 inches in one MOA at 100 yards. 3.6 ÷ 1.047 = 3.4383954154727. Round to 3.44 to convert.
      For Meters: There are 10-cm in one Mil-radian at 100 meters, and, 2.91-cm in one MOA at 100 meters. 10 ÷ 2.91 = 3.436424261168384. Round to 3.44.
      This is where I get the 3.44 as a conversion factor.
