I've owned previous versions of this masterpiece.. from the SBS H-BAR tactical, to the ultra rare M300 CISM and the SBS (SafeBoltSystem) Tactical Elite.. all share the SBS, a generation newer than the SSG (SharfSchutsenGewehr)69 series, consisting of a threaded barrel/receiver fit, new front 3 lug locking system and 3 stage safety/action-lock system. Both the SSG and SBS share Steyrs superb accuracy and world-class cold hammer forged barrels. They are without doubt among the very best production rifles in the world and set the standard by which others are measured. The M300 SBS IS the most accurate production rifle in my shooting experience. That is my good friend Klaus from the Federal Gendarmerie EKCobra mounting the system... NO SHIT! Like the Steyr, they too are among the VERY best!!
I've had a few of the 69s and modern SBS versions myself. I'd have to say the barreled action of the 69 is slightly superior in 308. (Of course it's not available in 300WM) Both the 69 and SBS based Rifles shoot very well. I could find no difference between either model as far as accuracy. The 69's have a shorter, faster bolt throw. SBS rifles have a long, rather goofy throw to them. The weakness with the 69 is the plastic stock/trigger guard/magazine. the SBS safety is ok, but you'll find yourself rolling it excessively if you're a little pumped. Way too much to that rolling safety, the SSG 69 has 2 positiions, On/locked bolt and off. That's all you need.
I too prefer the SSG69 barreled action over the SBS, EXCEPT the SBS M300 CISM match rifle. On the M300 Steyr has 'tuned' the action and it functions effortlessly as does the SSG . I am miffed that even the vaunted SSG08, at @ $5,000, has a contrary action, and the bolt throw is not as smooth and effortless as it should be. But still, they are great rifles capable of extreme accuracy ....
I'am thinking about buying this gun in .338 lapua magnum but i'am not sure if the caliber is too much for me. I tried a swiss k31 once but it was too much for me but i heard modern sniper rifle are lower on recoil than old carabines....
The bipod at 1:19 is the same type as HS-50 is delivered with from factory. Its a really god bipod and is awailable from their webshop.
