Did Noah Actually Bring MORE than Two of Each Animal on the Ark?

  • In Genesis 7:2-3, God tells Noah, “Take with you seven pairs of all clean animals, the male and his mate, and a pair of the animals that are not clean, the male and his mate, and seven pairs of the birds of the heavens also, male and female, to keep their offspring alive on the face of all the earth.” In this video, Tim Chaffey gives his perspective on whether or not Noah had to bring more than two of each animal on the ark.
    If you want more information about how many of each kind of animal went aboard the ark, check out this video: TH-cam/GIuElA4YNkU

    Interesting!
    6 + 1 = 7
    Based on my life on the farm, I'd like to suggest the premise of 1 male and 6 females. For example, 1 ram and 6 ewes. A good ratio for increasing the herd, the flock, as applicable.

    • @dcsblessedbees
      @dcsblessedbees ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That was the first thing I thought of also, herd animals.
      Plus with that starting ratio those numbers would grow fast and allow for berth/life losses.

      I am a serious preacher of the Gospel. Jesus said, he always taught in parables (St. Mark 4:33-34). Must I believe that his stories have to be history? Absolutely not. The story of the “Prodigal” is a parable, as well as others. Should it be cast away? Absolutely not. Your fanatical effort to make every Bible story in the Old Testament, history is causing many to cast away the messages that God is teaching in His “Word”. Your effort to say that “kind” refers to species as example antelope, is absurd. There are least 90 different species of antelope. The rabbit size ( Royal Antelope) and the (Eland which is over 2000 pounds). And remember you do not believe in evolution. And what did over 8 million species ( a million and half animal types ) eat? One grown elephant needs 300 pounds of vegetables every day to survive. How many pounds of bailed (compacted hay ) to last over 200 days would that be? Much more than the ark would hold. Now consider the hundreds of plant eaters. My friends, your efforts to turn allegory into history is turning many serious thinking souls into atheists. That is very sad. The more you insist, the more absurd you become. Keep going and you may come to understand that God uses all kinds of literature to convey his truth. The Old Testament is very important and helpful. But may we understand that it is in the vain of parables as Jesus taught. Humanity of every generation may digest its teaching about faith and life. The Bible is not a book of biology. No it is book of “Faith”. may we receive it as the instruction of God for life and Salvation"

      @@EvangelistDonClark I'm sorry, but I cannot take you seriously. Just as Jesus didn't take the Pharisees "preaching" seriously.
      Next you said: " *Your fanatical effort* to make every Bible story in the Old Testament ... "
      A "serious preacher" should not assume he knows the total beliefs of another individual based on 3 complete sentences, on a specific topic, by that individual, in a YT comment..
      Next, my foolish ranter, Biblically KIND refers to Order/Family/Genus (as applicable), not to individual species within a kind. Generally individual species, within KINDS can breed with each other. Male and female members of different kinds do not produce offspring.
      The representative of the Canine kind was likely a wolf. That animal had all the DNA needed to produce the 100 or so species of dogs, from Toy Poodles to Great Danes.
      Next, please tell me where the Bible states that full grown elephants were taken aboard the ark. It is quite likely that the representatives of the Order Proboscidea were just old enough to survive without their mother's milk when they boarded the ark.
      You said "The more you insist, the more absurd you become. Keep going and you may come to understand that God uses all kinds of literature to convey his truth."
      Yes, even in my absurdity I know the literary forms vary to meet the authors objectives, within passages of scripture. (40 authors directed by God). I also know that Pro 2:3-6 and 2 Tim 2:15 aren't parables.
      Pro 2:3-6 KJV - 3 Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, [and] liftest up thy voice for understanding; 4 If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as [for] hid treasures; 5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. 6 For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth [cometh] knowledge and understanding.
      2Ti 2:15 KJV - 15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
      Continuing ....
      If Genesis 3:15 is a parable, then do you consider John 3:16 to be a parable, that only some can understand? (Matthew 13:10-12) Or was John 3:16 written that all who read it can consider it to be actual fact?
      PS: "The Bible is not a book of biology."
      Biology is the study of life. The Bible is also the study of life. (Think about it, preacher.) Your use of the word KIND is a biological reference!

      @@oldtimerlee8820, Don Clark is correct. The only way the flood story makes sense is as a a metaphor. The “kinds” explanation is ridiculous. One kind cannot produce numerous species overnight. In most cases if not all, different species in your “kind” either cannot interbreed or do not produce fertile offspring. Creationists love to use dog breeds as an example but they are all the same species. That explains nothing as far as the diversification of species. “Only young animals” is just the one size fits all approach doesn’t work either. Many animal species are full grown in a year or less and others need one or both parents until nearly full grown. Also ridiculous is the claim that they hibernated, were all vegetarians, etc. The ark itself was an impossibility. 4 men could not build something that huge and creationist have to invent more and more scenarios to explain it. “Their relatives helped, they hired people, they had 150 years to build it”. The fact is a wooden boat that size is structurally impossible then and even now.

    • @oldtimerlee8820
      @oldtimerlee8820 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@davidgardner863 You said: "The “kinds” explanation is ridiculous. One kind cannot produce numerous species overnight."
      A skilled debater doesn't have to rely on terms such as "ridiculous" to make his or her point. *It's a cheap shot and you know it* .
      Next, I don't know of anyone, evolutionist or creationist who believes your "overnight" comment. Did you pull it out of thin air? If not, please give your credible reference.
      New species emerge and thrive or go extinct over generations of time. For proof, take a look at the low frequency that new breeds are added to the major dog shows.
      Would you rather I use fruit flies which have been the basis for untold numbers of genetic studies for countless generations. Regardless of the variations encountered, they are still fruit flies. I can also use Darwin's analysis of bird beaks to show variation of species within kinds, if you prefer.
      Next. My comment was in direct response to his example of an elephant. I did not say it was a "one size fits all". Again, another cheap debate tactic. Accusing someone with a different viewpoint of saying what they didn't say. Some people might say that you are lying.
      Plus: Plain old common sense of the average person, would understand that various aspects of animal accommodations would vary by KIND. A female mouse, 2 months old, can breed. ie she is an adult as it relates to this conversation. Look up how long it takes an elephant (by species) to achieve that milestone in life. Accommodations for a pair(s) of mice would certainly be different than it would be for juvenile elephants. Especially if the mice offspring are used for protein for carnivores that would have been on the ark.
      I have not claimed that all animals hibernated, were vegetarians, etc. Again, it depends on the KIND. Some birds (Aves) hibernate, some migrate and others simple adapt to seasonal changes. Foxes, sheep, domesticated chickens are a few examples of warm blooded animals that do not hibernate. BTW, many meat eating animals also eat plant life (omnivorous) . Bears are a good example. About 70% of their diet is non-meat. Yet they do eat deer, fish, birds and other mammals when they have the opportunity. Can a bear survive for a short period of time (relatively speaking) without eating flesh? Can humans? 🙂
      Your last statement was perfect in projecting your failure to defend your position.
      You Said: Quote: *The fact is a wooden boat that size is structurally impossible then and even now* .
      Quote: Wikipedia "Wyoming was an American wooden six-masted schooner built and completed in 1909 by the firm of Percy & Small in Bath, Maine. With a length of 450 ft from jib-boom tip to spanker boom tip, Wyoming was the largest known wooden ship ever built. "
      The ark is estimated to be 450' long. 🙂

      #1 taking plants on the Ark #2 there is plant 🪴 life underwater in the oceans right now. Plants growing again were no problem.

    • @oldtimerlee8820
      @oldtimerlee8820 ปีที่แล้ว

      Seeds for starters.
      Seed food sources, especially grains, for people and animals, along with possibly some for replanting, would have been on the ark. Dried fruits with their seeds and nuts are 2 more examples.
      Additionally, many seeds float. Coconuts are good examples that spread around the world as a result of the flood.
      After the flood, animal digestive tracts are another way seeds are spread. A way that wildlife still sows seeds today.
      Many types of seeds would have been mixed with the flood water, sediment and debris that was spread across the lands.
      Plants that normally grow in water, would have survived. Remember the destruction was for land dwellers with the breath of life.
      And, land dwelling plants would have been caught up in rafts of debris that floated on the flood waters. Do note that trees are still floating in Spirit Lake, long after St Helen's erupted. Today, there are also huge plant mats floating on lakes, where winter temperatures will allow, in many places in the world.
      Many plants can come from one by rooting cuttings. There's a long list of food plants that can be done this way. My mother grew scores of plants from cuttings she received from friends and family. The world, at the end of the flood, wouldn't have needed many plants, initially, to feed the life on earth. As the population grew, so did the plants needed to sustain that growth.
      And, probably most important PLANT life could have been re-established by the hand of God, without any effort by life upon the ark.

      @@oreally8605, Sure, I suppose plants from all over the world walked to the ark. Did you ever see a marine cactus? Even marine plants would have died. Even today corals are dying do to warming ocean water. Plants require specific temperature ranges, soil conditions, watering, etc. The same applies to marine plants plus salinity. A worldwide flood heated by tectonic activity would kill krill which are the bottom of the food chain affecting all higher forms of life. The whole flood story is impossible if taken literally.

    7 pairs seems more likely when the ark was way bigger than our 300 cubits today. Noah was probably like 10-12 feet tall. 7 pairs of ckean animals and 1 pair of unclean animals. That means: Feline or K9 - 7 pairs of clean feline cats/ 14 cats and 1 pair of dirty cats/ 2 cats. That means Noah had 16 cats on the ark. He had 16 bears, 16 crocodile babies, 16 rams, sheep, goats, cows, rodents, snakes, insects, 16 pairs of birds or even more depending on their kind; like penguin, dove, hawk, parrot, flsmingo, owls..etc.

Imagine back then with no real transportation except by horse on land or boat by water, how long it would take, if even possible at all, who's getting the penguins?? Then you have to store all the animals before and during the flood? You have any idea how much food and water that would take? Oh and you where are they going to the bathroom at? Lastly once the flood recedes, all the salt water would have killed all vegetation, so what do the animals eat, besides each other, of course.

    Noah's Ark isn't meant to be taken literally. It's a myth that attempts to tell the story of our origins. It was later Christians who did a disservice to the Bible by trying to make them literal stories. Pretty much all of Genesis 1-11 isn't literal but rather myth

    I’m amazed at the amounts of atheists who haunt the Bible resources with their “ha ha’s”, I don’t believe in Orcs or fairies but I don’t visit those sites because they don’t interest me. I don’t look or participate in threads about comic books or the films that their fans worship so it must be something about the Bible which attracts atheists against their better judgement, and that’s a good thing. God works in mysterious ways .

    The whole story is a myth so he could have taken as many as you like for the story.
