I don't have any interest in the argument either way, but from a science background your claim @ 1:30 is based on a false premise. Money is not a requirement for bias to be exist. Bias is always to be assumed, and you perform layers of controls to account for any possible bias. I understand you're not a clinical facility, but you need to understand that bias exists in ways you cannot account for in these kinds of environments. Your thoughts, opinions, social background, etc are all factors that influence and affect bias. I only mention that because you seem to genuinely want to help people understand and use the tech that motivates you, and I think that's wonderful. Just don't claim yourself to be free from bias, and stay transparent with your sourcing of equipment and software featured in your videos - from there it's on the audience to make their own informed choices.

i cant believe people are carrying on about this Tim
your video was fine and clearly outlined your opinions on them
not that i think you were bias, but even if you were it wouldn't matter, your allowed to be bias towards products you like. That is literally what an opinion is

That is what many people forget. We are all biased. We all have our own experiences, likes and dislikes. That always comes into play when we make decisions or evaluate something. That's not a bad thing, but you have to be aware of it.

Your engagement ploy worked. if the home lab audience were well adjusted people it wouldn’t have been a blip on the radar 😂
Editing to add an emoji to emphasize the joke

IMHO TrueNAS beats Unraid handsdown. All of the points your raised and compared were valid.

I'm using both TrueNAS and URAID and Windows Server too. Just learnin'.

I've used both TrueNAS and Unraid so I feel the +/-'s, hopefully feel informed on both, and don't flame the other side. I think maybe NAS software gets more lightning to the rod than others because of the risk involved. Vim vs Emacs, Linux vs Windows, etc. a lot boils down to personal preferences and there often isn't a right answer, but when it comes to NAS it is often what you are trusting your irreplicable data to, people can feel more strongly that the wrong decision will have more "dire" consequences if you make the wrong choice. Of course the answer to either is you are supposed to have backups so if either NAS OS fails you have a backup anyway, but maybe that's where the more visceral response comes from.

MS recall is a major cluster f%#$. Forced email account, no way. I use ubuntu where I can, but still need MS on two systems because of the software.

I think you're more familiar with TrueNAS than Unraid, and you're running TrueNAS for real workloads. Maybe that means you haven't found all the workarounds and such for Unraid, so maybe it didn't get the fairest treatment. But I don't think there is any conscious bias on your part. It's fine, indeed helpful, for users to point out where they disagree. And of course, people have their favourites, and will defend their choices - nobody wants to think they're doing it wrong. Keep doing what you're doing. I'm not really any closer to deciding what I need, probably OMV 🙂!
