@TechnoTimTalks - Too bad you don't/won't stream in YT - Twitch sucks so I never see your lives -
Noted!
FYI, if you are looking to change out fluorescent for led's you might look at JESLED T8 4FT LED Type A+B Light Bulbs, 24W 3000LM 5000K Daylight White, Plug and Play or Ballast Bypass (as an example) where you can either leave the ballast in or remove it.... (a warning sticker is included to put on if you do remove the ballast so someone else down the road would know)
Thank you! I picked up something similar and I think my ballast is dead! I might have to bypass it 🤞 ⚡
Thank you for continuing to do this. I can atleast catch these during the work week
After visiting Minneapolis for work, I instantly heard your voice get all Minnesotan when you were telling the story about your neighbor hahaha
I'm looking for a way of bridging my garage lab (with LTE connectivity at the moment) with my home. The thing is that however the distance is not far (like 40m), the building are angled to eachoter, making straight-line-connection tricky, especially with limited external wall mounting possibilities, as the garage is common space. I am able to mount one side of the bridge behind narrow garage's window, but I'm afraid it is going to cripple the link speed and reliability pretty heavy. What would you suggest?
I just did exactly that for my own garage, here it is th-cam.com/video/e3R-kFfR9tM/w-d-xo.html
Just ran conduit to my big garage. Ran 8 gauge 240v power, fiber, and an emergency cat 6 cable. Need to run fiber from there to my workshop next. I've been relying on a building to building bridge up till now.
Bla bla bla. I can't put a Unifi radio link outside. But a U7 pro i s just fine to have outside! 😂
Ha! I know, it was a long winding road to get to this point but to sum it up, if I am going to put something outside, it's not going to be point to point becase I lose coverage in my yard. Point to mesh is where it's at! 😅
@TechnoTimTalks have you tried? I have just that setup to my garage.ä from the house. Works fine, and wont give any interference to WiFi at all. I have 1 AP in the garage, that also feed WiFi to the yard.
@@vardagsteknik6576 I tested with the UDB Pro if that's what you mean. What do you mean by a radio link?
UISP nanobeam. Unifi has them now in gigabit speeds over air.
RJ45 EZ is really convenient, but I've had the worst luck with them failing in patch panels that get worked in on a regular basis.
The signal from those unifi APs is more like a donut than a beam. You'd be better off mounting the AP flat instead of turning it around. Best signal for all the ones I've installed have been horizontal mounted on a ceiling. All that said, the new setup should be far better no matter how you mount the APs in mesh.
What are some of those vids that didnt land on release day? Surface them again - lets see what happens with channel engagement
I get it and if there is nothing important you don't care if it get stolen sure but sadly you should never run security stuff off of wireless, too easy to jam.
Personally, I'd still run fiber to the garage. Nothing wrong with the setup you have. You know the pros of fiber. However, you like the wireless aspect and it works for you so keep what works for you. Love your network rack.
We need more HA content!
Garage is the logical progression 😂
You garage is incredible. This was just a "small" network upgrade 😅
I have an attached garage but have been avoiding drilling more holes in the walls. I opted to go with a pair of media converters to go from 1G to an sfp optic fiber which I ran out my amateur radio patch and in through the service door on the garage and into another media converter. the fiber just runs along the edge of the house next to coax runs and is armored.
Sounds awesome! I am the same way, if I don't need to drill holes in the core infrastructure of my house or garage (basement wall, yard, outer walls) I avoid it.
Jim's garage welcomes Tim's garage 🎉
Your garage looks a million times better!
I was going to say Jim done it first.
for a second there i thought i was watching Craft Computing with you cracking a beer open.
Any plans for sweatshirts and long-sleeve tshirts? How do these garments compare to the base garments LTT offers? I dont have any LTT stuff but im curious since they talk up the quality so much and these things are not inexpensive... Also guessing they dont have a large profit margin for the creator, so im a bit hesitant to not just give cash to support instead of buying cool march. If I send $25 to support, id like at least 80% of that to reach the creator. I worry in a lot of cases the creator basically receives a tip amount... In that case id rather skip the merch and send cash or SATs. Cool merch Tim - very tempting. Prime sub (tip?) inbound in the meantime. 🤣😅
Each shirt, including the fit and materials, is chosen and approved by me. They are *not* print-on-demand, which gives me complete control over this choice, instead of being at the mercy of some other company that wants to maximize their profits and choose the cheapest materials. They are all designed in-house by me and my wife and the inks are specifically chosen because they are water based and environmentally friendly. That being said a lot of other TH-camrs have the Dark Mode shirt and have commented specifically on the quality, fit, and feel. I hope they feel the same about this one! I do have a Dark Mode sweatshirt but I also need to see how this t-shirt design does before applying this design to other products. That's one of the risks of not using print-on-demand is that I have to buy and create them upfront and I can't just cancel an item that does not sell because I have stock in that item. All that being said, I am trying to make quality products that last, feel comfortable, and look good.
@TechnoTimTalks Awesome! Must have taken a huge amount of time. Hope you are making a healthy profit from this business line - in this context appreciate that you priced a little below the average pricing as well. Glad to now presume you get to keep at least 80% of the sale... Hope you do. I might be making my 1st merch purchase... Maybe it'll be a Christmas present
@@l0gic23 Haha, no where near 80% of the sale. I would have to raise the prices quite a bit to reach that!
@@TechnoTimTalks hope it still works out to be worth the effort. Hope your able to protect your design ideas also.
Looking forward to watching the FreeGeek video. YT omitted it from my feed (or I missed it somehow), but now its at the top of my watch list
It's TH-cam's algorithm. They assume what people want to watch and present it to them.
@@TechnoTimTalks think they could figure out an accounts favourite YT channel... Maybe they are punishing me for turning off the watch history.... I'm still waiting for someone to go after them for still somehow making suggestions even when watch history was off... I was okay with suggestions based on subscription but they clearly tie home page suggestions to history and for years they made relevant suggestions despite watch history being off.... The least they could do is show every video from a subscribed channel on the subscription page.... Sigh. Thanks for mentioning in this video so I had the heads up I missed your primary channel video.

Nginx Proxy Manager is just so convenient it's hard to move away from. Once I have it set I just disable the port for the admin web gui to secure it more, and let the reverse proxy do its thing on 80 and 443, automagically renewing certs etc., and I just enable it again if I need to make a config change

Thanks for bumping the products. Dont change a thing Tim. Your audience is not the extream people, they are just loud. Listen to alk of us that said thx or nothing. The extream people is just like the extream in politics, hard to ignore but but does not represent the majority
Don't let the haters get you down, there was nothing wrong with what you did with the Unraid thing.
Thank you. It's just how I'm wired. I appreciate it!
But unraid really sucks. Bad user interface, boot only from flash drive.
@@MacGyver0 I learned all that from Tim without researching myself. I appreciated that.
My internet pipe is only 30mbps down and 5mbps up. 🥲 I'm jealous of people with 500mbps.
Hey Tim, Thank you sir. You do a great job. I use only 4 Wyze Cameras and 2 PiZero 8MP Cameras, Security works fine on MotionEYE OS.
31:00 Android likes DoH/DoT will prefer those connections over plain DNS. So if you can't provide it, it'll ignore your plain DNS suggestion given by your DHCP server.
17:00 I feel the opposite about pi-hole and raspberry pi. I've had nothing but trouble with storage on raspberry pis long term. I feel like sometimes, i just have to look at the USB storage and it disconnects. I've just moved my pi-holes to Proxmox containers.
Would you object to somebody taking your Docker that's similar to tinyLink and making a Unraid app store listing for it?
To add on the frigate camera talk: check to make sure other people have gotten your desired make and model to work. Some of the no name Amazon brands have very convoluted ways to make them work such as figuring out default camera username and password, the port the camera uses, etc and it's just a pain to get to work. The hours you spend fiddling with stuff to save like $10 isn't worth it.
Great tip! This is something most do AFTER buying instead of BEFORE!
Absolutely agree. Dahua or white labeled Dahua (like Amcrest) or going the Reolink route will save a lot of time
I'll hazard a guess: Potassium and Salt...
That's right! Forgot about the obvious, sodium!
Magnesium too! It's what plants crave!
Try updating BIOS and microcode for the CPU of the optiplex.
9:20 I suspect they've barely scratched the surface.
You could return the CPU and buy a 12th gen. You didn't give much up and they are stable.
I recently acquired my youngest old rig after his PC upgrade. Core i7 9700k. A big step up from the i3 6th Gen. that I was previously using for my NAS/Plex server. After using various OS's, I decided on going with Proxmox, as this was a better fit than all the others (UnRaid, OpenMediaVault, TrueNAS, Ubuntu LTS Server with Docker). Whilst it goes against all the recommendations, I also have the Proxmox Server itself acting as a NAS. I did a few trial runs of disaster recovery to see what would happen if the main drive failed. If the VM drive failed. etc. I learned enough to recover data untouched from all failures, so I feel pretty confident in my abilities to go with this situation for my modest home needs. I realise it's not the 'done thing', but at the very least I actually did disaster recovery trials, which is more than most do!! I've been slowly migrating all the data from one server to my new server. And I have Plex running in a container, allocated it 6 cores, and the iGPU. I could probably drop the cores down to 2. The old CPU capped out at 3.6, whilst the new CPU can boost to 5ghz. That additional speed and the IPC improvements on the CPU made plex across the network on all devices sooo much snappier. Even on the old fire sticks it was noticeable. Scrubbing through timelines, and just loading the video was noticeably quicker. As is adding new media to the library. Night and Day. If you're going to install plex server, I really recommend a CPU with a high clock speed, if possible. You WILL notice a difference. I connect to my library via NFS. I also have a JackSparrow VM machine. A Windows VM with PCIE passthrough of the 1070. A PiHole ad blocker in a container. An Apple Time Machine in a container. And Handbrake in a container. The latter I use in the background to convert some of the really old formats I have knocking around. I have this automated, so I have the target directory, and the processed directory. Proxmox has really enabled me to get the most out of this old hardware. Whilst keeping everything distinct and separate. And it's been wonderful to allocate resources to each. I'm in now rush to have handbreak convert all those files. It can just tick away with one core, and it's done when it's done.
Ahhh bubbled water corner. My favorite
