Not a microphone. The blend is a model blended with the straight piezo sound. Love my steel string. Great instrument and truly a tool for creating music and rehearsal.
4:15 I'm sorry. No. There is no microphone in the Silent guitar, it is a modeled high-end Yamaha guitar that can be blended in with the under-saddle pickup. From Yamaha's website: SRT Powered is a new system designed to recreate the body resonance of an acoustic guitar in a bodiless guitar. Yamaha developed SRT Powered, collaborating with recording artists to create a system tailored to the unique properties of the new SLG body and modeled after the tones of a high-end Yamaha acoustic guitar captured using a carefully selected microphone in a professional recording studio environment. By actually reproducing the sound of an acoustic guitar-right down to its natural sustain and decay-Yamaha lets guitarists experience the genuine body resonance, body tone and ambiance of an acoustic guitar. SRT Powered sound can even be mixed with the sound from the instrument's piezo pickups, allowing guitarists to be even more flexible in their creative endeavors. Because the SLG can virtually reproduce the sound of a guitar recorded with a microphone, players are free from complicated procedures involved in mic-ing up a guitar when recording at home or in other settings.
Pretty cool they finally put a line out on the Yamaha amp. I had the previous generation on display when I worked at Sam Ash and my one request would have been a line out to a PA to use the amp live. I’d actually like to just have the preamp and effects unit as a floorboard unit I could plug into my PA.
Thanks for a great review. All I can say is WOW what a great sounding instrument and amp. I have both of them on order and can't wait to get my hands on them.
Thanks for the Video! Im 65 and decided to learn guitar... I was going straight for aa Les Paul Studio not a traditional choice I know. Then I cam across this Yamaha. i like it. To learn and to grow for my personal enjoyment. What do you think.? Im a real beginner. I want a little bit of everything.
"Silence of the Yams". I love my Silent Yamaha Nylon, so sensual and inviting to play without disturbing people. Have the wireless THR 30 II amp also. The only issue I have, is my strap keeps coming off. Strap locks won't fit the body fasteners. If you have a connection to Yamaha Canada, please get them to design new strap pegs. Thank you.
I put a neck button onto mine and replaced the mid section hole with a regular hex bolt (like they use in computer desks, they lay flush.) sits much nicer. Then use those beer bottle type washers to keep the strap on. they work.
Bought the steel string a few months ago with the newest Yamaha Stagepass 100 PA. Sounds great and looks awesome. Take it to open mic and everyone wants to try it! Going to order the nylon version!
Excellent review and demo. I think you just convinced me to buy one! I'd got a shortlist of three that I was going for but this fits the bill perfectly. The point you make at the end about being in a private space is really important, and I think that just swung it. Thanks!
Yamaha is pretty much everyone’s first acoustic or electric guitar. After that, people are quick to ‘graduate’ to much more expensive instruments, to distance themselves from being seen as a novice. I came full circle ten years ago. I have 3 Silent guitars (1 x 110s and 2 x 200’s, S+N) Many acoustics/trans acoustic. Their live equipment is amazing. Mixers sound great and their PA’s are fantastic since they bought out NEXO. They also own Line 6, so all that tech is finding its way into their new products. Not to mention their piano’s and wind instruments etc. They usually have a big music showroom in major cities around the world, so if you travel, its a no brainier. You can visit any store world wide, and get warranty work carried out too, if needed. Just a great company, and always high quality and full of innovation. Also, did I mention value for money? Once you drop the ego and look beyond the label, you will find the other manufacturers are building inferior products, for a higher price! Life’s a LOT easier if you just accept that as a novice, you were right, first time!😂
You're totally right. I graduated back to a SLG a couple of months back. I play it more than any other acoustic - my Martin HD28 included - and it feels and sounds superb. The neck is a joy to behold.
So ironic. Everyone in my family including myself, started out with a Yamaha and eventually moved on to Martins and Taylor’s. Now here I sit at 54 actually considering purchasing the FG5. I finally got to try one on Friday and now can’t get it out of my head despite owning a beautiful little 400 series Taylor 25th anniversary edition. I think I might be calling them first thing next week to actually secure the guitar. They said they would hold the guitar for a week for me to take some time to think about buying it which I thought was very kind of them. Lol

Yamaha is *criminally* underrated as a guitar brand. I have the THR30 also, it’s AMAZING. Currently debating buying a cheaper secondhand Silent guitar from the 100series, or just order a new 200 series.
Question for you SLG owners. I have a THR5A and SLG200S. What settings should be used on the guitar when plugged into the amp? I’m guessing the guitar effects should be off and the tone and base in center. Because the amp is designed for acoustic, the pickup/mic should be all mic? Thanks for your input.
So you know if the THR30IIA Amp has independent volume control for bluetooth audio volume, like the THR30II? How would it work? I don’t see any way to control the bluetooth audio volume.
I'm about to get the mark ii version of this (awaiting the phone call of its arrival), but I noticed that the ii doesn't have condensor or dynamic mic modelling ... or am I wrong? Either way, I think it'll be enlightening. Although in my apartment building even plucking an unplugged electric gets hard footsteps above, I'll be able to have a little fun with this--unlike the Bassman. Wow, what a player you are!
Just caught this. Have had these 10 years, both steel and nylon. Perfect as a travel guitar. Play mine through an Acus 5t. Actually comes alive with just headphones.
Hello. What would you recommend for me to have: a nylon one or steel one? I sing worship and I want to play in church using that guitar. In home I've got a nylon classic guitar but I know I need an acustic one or this silent model. Thank you in advance
@@dominikdudek16 Hi, personally I would go with steel for the punch and resonance. I have seen these played through all kinds of amps and PA systems. I have played my nylon version througn an Acus 5t and a Hughes & Kettner 5w and the tones are clear when hitting chords.
Not sure why tonewoods are necessary in this application. An acoustic guitar is a “sound pump” by definition and tonewoods make a difference in the sound. The silent guitar employs a pickup solely to make sound, so the use of tonewoods doesn’t make sense. I would absolutely own one (I have owned several Yamaha acoustics), but I would prefer a graphite model for the durability factor.
