I don't know whether to laugh, roll my eyes, or face-palm. Probably all three. But the following resolution was adopted at the March 13 meeting of the Sussex County Board of Commissioners: "WHEREAS, Sussex County is home to thousands of brave men and women who have sacrificed, and in many instances, paid the ultimate price, to defend our freedom; and "WHEREAS, these heroes served faithfully, humbly and valiantly in times of war and peace and continue to exhibit these admirable traits within our communities; and "WHEREAS, it is our duty to recognize and honor the selfless and personal sacrifices of our Veterans; and "WHEREAS, the people of Sussex County greatly appreciate every Soldier, Sailor, Airman, Marine and Coast Guardsman who have rendered the highest service any American can offer; and "WHEREAS, declaring November as Veterans’ Month in Sussex County is one way this County can extend our deepest gratitude to each and every man and woman who chose to fight for our freedoms. "NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of County Commissioners of Sussex County proclaims that the month of November each year shall be known as Veterans’ Month in the County of Sussex, State of New Jersey; and "BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of County Commissioners of Sussex County asks all residents to take a moment and be more appreciative of the many freedoms we possess as Americans and remember those who have fought for those freedoms. "BY ORDER OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS" Now, don't get me wrong. Our veterans deserve atlll of the thanks and recognition we can give them. My grandfather served in World War II, my father during the Korean War, and a nephew in Iraq. So no one respects our military more than I. But an elected board with a member who has blatantly lied about his own fabricated military experience and has taken no action against that person--Bill Hayden, of course--has no business issuing a proclamation recognizing our military, as long as Hayden remains a member of that Board. And I suspect that, for all their censure motions and hand-wringing, they don't have any intention of taking any further action against Hayden. Naturally, Hayden was absent from the meeting, because he is obviously too much of a coward to face the public after what he has done, and it would have taken chutzpah the likes of which the Republican Party has never seen before--oh, right, he supposedly has left the GOP, delusionially believing that Democrats are willing to work with him. Bipartisanship only goes so far, and it does not extend to a fabulist like Wild Bill. Nevertheless, that the Board of Commissioners would even consider such a resolution while their membership is poisoned by a liar reveals the utter hypocrisy of our elected officials. Sussex County GOP Vice-Chair Barbara Holstein promised to launch a recall petition to force Hayden from office. Has that started? There's been no indication that it has.
I’m still waiting for NJ State Senator Doug Steinhart to send me his address, but he doesn’t have the courage to do what he said he would.
