Doesn't get much weirder than this, when David Lynch directs a Nissan Micra commercial and throws a pair of disembodied, nonsense spouting blue lips into the mix.
This ad showed in my country. The weird (and completely diffrent ad from others....anything actually) ad attracted so much interest. Once the quality of the car and its features came to good knowledge, the sales started flowing. I travelled also and found the Micra to be popular at quite a few countries.
In the Netherlands, I think I remember "Spafe" being "Space" and "Safe"instead of "spontaneous and safe". I saw that commercial in the Tuchinsky cinema in Amsterdam for the Lord of the Rings, the return of the king.
This is a very creative approach compered to other car commercials at that time which tended to show the car simply driving around in a panorama-esque landscape. Additionally, the idea of the portmanteau language is also nice, IMHO.
It was great. The music beats and the psychology applied through a driven atmosphere and no characters shown, surrealistic in a way. it should be made to the theater audience with increased length.Hats off.
Modtro and spafe were Simon's descriptions of the seventh chamber in the fourth column of a bulldog andt ants' nest in Melbourne's east side. He used other, more acrimonious terms to describe the deputy marshall of the quasi-religious "Sons of Gavin Macleod, Anonymous" who invoked the fifth amendment when prodded about his shady borromean ring factory on Satellite Island, Tasmania.
Although it is hard to believe, Lynch has done heaps of ads - and they are all listed on Lynchnet. He is anti-piracy and doesn't seem to have any problems doing whatever jobs for money... Like this ad. Ah well.

david really 'calmed himself' on this one..he did a great one for GAP clothing about the time of twin peaks and using Madchen AMick the actress.very jazzy,sexy...
Cool commercial with a lot of style and mood, but the car is sort of dorky-looking. They release a DVD or Blu-Ray of all the commercials David Lynch has directed throughout his career, I'd buy it!
Ok, now I want to see the 9.5 hour director's cut.
I LOVE TO STUDY SIMPOLOGY. I LOVE SIMPOLOGY
The study of SIMPs?
S P A F E
If you love Space & Cafe that is! 👾
This is the first car commercial which has ever made me want to buy a car.
Nice to see that the Rocky Horror Lips were able to find work...
I lost it at “Spafe” ☺
this is such a mid 2000s commercial and I love it
Cracked up heaps at "spafe"

Oh my god I recognize where it was shot !
It's in Paris, around the Francois Mitterand LIbrary and also in a science theme park named "La Villette" !
lynch is so effortlessly interesting spafe baby spafe
In the Netherlands, I think I remember "Spafe" being "Space" and "Safe"instead of "spontaneous and safe". I saw that commercial in the Tuchinsky cinema in Amsterdam for the Lord of the Rings, the return of the king.
thank you Mr.Lynch for f**king with them from within. absolutely hilarious!
I really like the strong mood, visual part and audio part on this clip... very fancy, yet very interesting and original.
A commercial from the Black Lodge
This actually isn't bizarre to the typical Lynch extent.
i can see lynch's style in it, but i haven't see any other ads from this series, but i must say that i love everything that lynch is doing
i need a nissan that's all about the pimpology
Lynch's work is always so fucking outstanding.
I was kinda expecting the lips to say Silenzio XD
Spafe, just spafe.
Now It's Dark...
This is a very creative approach compered to other car commercials at that time which tended to show the car simply driving around in a panorama-esque landscape. Additionally, the idea of the portmanteau language is also nice, IMHO.
@RicothePsycho Wonderful use of automatic writing. Lynch would be proud. As well as Breton, Eluard, perhaps Dali, well, all of them really.
Didn't know lynch did this ad... Now I understand!
It was great.
The music beats and the psychology applied through a driven atmosphere and no characters shown, surrealistic in a way.
it should be made to the theater audience with increased length.Hats off.
No characters? There were three.
I feel like something bad is going to happen if I don’t get this car
I kinda want the car now.
Reminds me of some of the old video game commercials back in the 90s. I'm hooked.
David Lynch is getting paid to make car advertisements. I´m still chewing on that...

Thanks David. This is a great commercial.
I wasn't sure if I should kiss those blue lips
or kiss the blue car.
Yeah. it's me.
this'd be his worst piece of anything id say
i love that observation!
Wish every commercial was like this, I'm so sick of watching the same commercial for different products
in that case, micra is still not the prefix for measures. becuase micro is used, not the plural.
You don't really need to say that it's "bizarre" when it's directed by David Lynch. That's already supposed to be implied.
Amazing and provocative.
A commercial you wish to watch over and over...
Lynch is a national treasure. Wow.
Amazocative
What the huck I just satch.
@ekathe85 You okay?
@@weirdman5215 i don't think so
I see you, PilotRedSun.
Why not making an experience in the field of commercials? David transcends the limitations..
this commercial is interessive & mysciting
Lol at the title of this, if it's David Lynch, expect bizarre
That's definitely not weird if you've seen Mulholland Dr.
yeah...this is pretty normal. I thought miniature people would appear or someone would find an ear on the driver's seat.
oh god I remember seeing this
the 2002-2010 Nissan Micra/ Nissan March was assembled in
Sunderland, England
Oppama, Japan
I call bs. MY brain doesn't hurt nearly as bad as it should for watching a david lynch piece.
just watch the third place ps2 ad then come back to us 👍☕
lynch also did the orkin commercials where the big termite knocks on the door and wants to use the phone to call his brother-in-law.
This is normal compared to lynch standarts.
That ad makes me feel like I'm sitting in a strange modern hotel room.
Modern yet retro
Subliminal advertising is an interesting thing...hey, why am I hungry for a blue pair of lips all of thus sudden?
CREATIVE.
We live...in a Micra
Heh I remember seeing this ad in the cinema... had no clue it was Lynch
Simpering + apology = simpology
Simp Philosophy eh
how is this even bizarre? a lot cooler and creative then american ads
antimax - Good point, but I did make sure before I commented. It is Lynch.
I used to hav the old style micra it was sooo cute! .... no half my family has the new one lol
I quite like the music
hehe shiny and bright ;)
shollocks
Shiny and bright!
"Spafe?"
disembodied lips, Slavoj Zizek would have something to say about that
it makes me sad to see such an artist doing so many commercials
they forget to say ugly! lol
Nisome = Nice + Awesome.
this may be weird back in the 90's maybe, but now its norm lol
total sarcasm
David Lynch is a fucking genius. That is it.
just a bitr overproduced for some lights that calls the storm!
AHHAHAHA.. using micras own logic, who knew their cars ended up being shiny and bright xD cool add btw
Even the Japanese were like “We got nuttin’!”
Futurista! Bello!
Yes... BRINEY!
Nobody portrays dream-logic as well as Lynch!
He's so cool.
um..yes...it was...a...commercial.

Ha! SPAFE!!! This is good stuff..........
"Doesn't get much weirder than this."
You obviously haven't seen Eraserhead or Inland Empire.
I maintain my longstanding stance on David Lynch - the guy is an absolute nut.
I didn't think it was that weird.
@RicothePsycho Wonderful use of automatic writing. Lynch would be proud, and Breton, Eulard, well, all of them really.
Word!
best damn movie of this century!
Now I'm starting to think that the entire point of Eraserhead was advertising for pencils.
david really 'calmed himself' on this one..he did a great one for GAP clothing about the time of twin peaks and using Madchen AMick the actress.very jazzy,sexy...
i love this car though
Cool commercial with a lot of style and mood, but the car is sort of dorky-looking. They release a DVD or Blu-Ray of all the commercials David Lynch has directed throughout his career, I'd buy it!
@MAXIMUSMISCHIEF it is by David Lynch
I wanted to see Eraserhead get out of the car at the end....
"now"
I didn't think it was weird at all. Well done for what it is, but not necessarily strange.
i wanna give my interpretation about this...XD
Why does this remind me of the 80's?
voice sounds like isabelle rossolini
effective ad
