Yes, here's what Detroit sees in him: Gibbs fits Detroit's offense perfectly. He can line up in the slot, and will help conceal their offense a lot better than Swift/Jamaal or Swift/Mont.
Or even Bijan / Mont. Bijan is better than Montgomery I believe....but at the end of the day you took more of the same. Now Gibbs / Montgomery. Now you've got a baffling offense. Line both those guys up and what's your defensive scheme?
@Pierre Boyd definitely a fair point, but Detroit has shown they have a vision and want guys that fit that vision. It's become more and more clear that Swift, in particular, doesn't fit in. They saw their guy and got him. It could be great, and it could be terrible, but until they play, who knows. I at least respect that Detroit has been unapologetic about their decisions and have a vision for once in my life lmao. Gibbs is possibly the most explosive player in the draft and behind a great o-line that has a better shot of working out than most picks do. Unexpected pick, but I'm okay with it after a couple of days.
GM of the Lions Brad Holmes is like Chris Simms in the way that he doesn't automatically buy into conventional thought or other people's opinions. The Lions do their own homework and grading and search for high impact players that fit what they're building. Bijan is redundant to David Montgomery. Gibbs offers the Lions a more dynamic offense (and Gibbs is prolific in the passing game and can play slot, Bijan is slow in comparison).
You really don't do the homework, I'll guarantee that the Lions odds to win the Super Bowl, went up. Did you even know the odds for the Lions to win were top ten? I doubt that.

The lions wanted an upgrade at RB. They expected Robinson to be avaialble. He wasn't, so they took Gibbs. It's definitely a trend, worrying less about pick value than just landing the player they want. It's a good pick imo
I think they thought Bijan would be there at 12, when he wasn't, they took Gibbs, who they probably had rated as high as Bijan. This is a good pick no matter what anyone thinks of it. Because of the type of QB Goff is, Gibbs will have more impact in improving the team next year than anyone else that was available to them. Goff needs a great back in order to be at his best, he had one in LA, now he has one in Detroit.
Idk just from the way they've been talking in press conferences and I seen a couple things saying they were comfortable picking Gibbs at 6 I think they liked Gibbs better than Robinson. I also think they heard how the Jets and Patriots liked him a lot and were going to pick him at 14 & whatever and went for their guy even if it was bad "value". Obviously I have no idea if the Jets/Patriots thing is true.
Lions are were jacking the Seahawks. They took Seattle's 20th pick /player AT 12 because Sea took their 6th pick/player. Sea lost AR so they went next best player. Ooh well. A few years back SF was jumping in front of SEA each round and you see how well that turned out for them. Look out for the Lions 2023-24
I want to say Swift is in his last year in his contract? I think this will be his replacement. Won't cost as much right now and serves the same purpose. I have a feeling the Lions don't bring Swift back. Good player with a LOT of talent but injury stopping him form really coming into form I feel. I think this is going to be his replacement after this year.
Also, 'could have traded down and still got Campbell' isn't necessarily true. Campbell is arguably the best LB in the draft. You need people willing to trade up, and let's say Campbell is their guy, but the next team would have wanted him at say 27 - 30. However, no team really wanted to trade with Detroit for 18... in those pick ranges well, if Detroit really wanted him (and fills a need) why not grab him? Because, he had more value at 27 - 30? There's also team value and how management views a guy and how he brings value to the team. Not just how experts, who don't do the extensive scouting and have access to a team's game plan, value positions, etc. This can include everything from talent, positional needs, to character and how the guy fits in the locker room and matches the mentality the team wants.
there is no crystal ball saying where they dropped. no one expected levis to still be available or nolan smith to drop to 30. if they fit the culture you draft the player not the position
@@stopdroolin8418 hahaha. I can't take someone seriously that says the Lions run defense is fine. If you look up the stats of last year, we are literally the worst run defense in the league. But you do you tough guy.
Bro y’all gotta stop with this selective outrage stuff 😂 I don’t understand how anyone can take offense to literally everything in this PC cancel culture not that big of a deal.
What do you mean a linebacker gets drafted before A tight end? What does that even mean? Not everyone are followers One more thing what pick was AJ hawk picked at I'm pretty sure it was a top 5 pick
I was told I was crazy and didn’t know shit about football when I said before FA we was drafting a rb at 6 or trading back and taking one. I did think it was Bijan. But now thinking about it, when you run a 2 back system, you don’t want the rbs to be the same type of rb. Bijan and Monty are the same with Bijan being the better. Gibbs is totally different and that change of pace back compared to Monty. Great pick at a position of greater need than anyone thought. I saw it!
I like the pick it’s just you sign David and with swift injury concerns I understand the pick it’s just you had other needs you know so make no mistake Bryce rely on Gibbs heavily on offense…when Gibbs struggled bama offense pretty much rely on 9 to bail them out
true. We just have too many defensive needs for me, we couldve got a dawg (no pun intended actually) either nolan or jalen carter but lions is all stoic, clean culture now lol so I get it 🙄🤷🏿♂️
You all have no idea how the Lions operate. Here let me help you. He was the #1 RB on the board for the Lions. They considered taking him at 6. Brad Holmes let it slip in his press conference that he received many texts from people in NFL circles and one of them told him that Gibbs would not have made it to 15, the Patriots were taking him. Brad Holmes is a master of intel and knows exactly the value of his players relative to other teams and he is very good at taking them before the other team can. He also happens to be the biggest 50 yard TD threat in the draft this year, and that includes Bijan. Gibbs was not making it to 15, Campbell was not making it to round 2. If you pick a guy that is your guy and at the top of your board when he would not make it to your next pick that is NOT a reach... Sheesh...
Swift managed 208 rushing yards on 55 carries in Detroit’s last nine games. No longer a threat to any opponents defensive strategy. All these broadcast pundits do not understand this fact.
Thing is Mike. Gibbs college division was more difficult to play in. Gibbs has trick play talent. Gibbs is faster. They passed on Bijan for a reason. Yup we like who we like! This draft in the 1st round isn’t that great. It’s stronger in the 2nd down. Captain Jack is our boy. Johnny White??? What does that even mean??? Just wait until the 2 nd round.
If I'm going to describe someone as "Johnny White Guy," it'll be some draft expert who thinks his opinion is gospel and uses "athletic" as a code word for black.
As a lifelong Lions fan I lost all faith in him after these last few drafts our defense has been awful and you use two first-round picks on offensive skill players that's unforgivable
Patriots were eye humping Jahmyr hard enough that we've heard about it. Brad took him where he knew he could get him and got pick 34 as the icing on the cake. Love both picks... after the initial shock wore off.
Mike and Chris are smart individuals. They just let their bias opinions get in their way when it comes to the Lions. Mike is a Vikings fan that doesn't want to accept the Lions are in a great situation and are much better off than the Vikings. Chris doesn't want to accept that Goff is a great QB. Goff consistently puts up top 5 numbers, has success where ever he goes but he's a mid tier QB? There is not another QB that has put of the numbers and had the success that Goff's had, that they don't considered a top QB in the NFL. They are always trying to find a way to find doubt. At some point they will have to accept the Lions are good and Brad knows what he's doing.
@Matthew Tippett maybe, but they all know they are on camera. Never see a room that looks disappointed. Certainly maybe the Cowboys when they got jumped... 😂
Until they get it wrong, I'm good with this. They run a pass happy scheme. Lots of screens. Bijan doesn't catch the ball. Bijan is high risk. His style screams injury problems. Just wait. Everybody questioned the Hutch pick. He's JJ Watt but durable. Goff was a send off. He's not anymore. The lions are really good at finding the guys.
Adding a great weapon to an already damn good offense with a top O-Line is not a head scratcher. They play indoors on a fast surface. All of the top teams have offenses that can put up 30 in a heartbeat. This helps them do that. More weapons in the passing game equals more wins in this league. They have a stable of three good backs. They can trade Swift if they need to. And no, I am not a Lions fan. They clearly have plans for Gibbs.
So you don’t like Jack Campbell in that Defense??? How? Gibbs is an amazing player too doesn’t seem as flashy as Robinson. We will see. Not even a lions fan but I think they had a great draft if you like the player pick him!!!
Gibbs is LEGIT folks it's hard to beat RAW talent that played at Bama! Time will tell but he seems determined to prove it. Jets said they would have took him at #15 he can touch it so many places.
As a lions fan I didn't like the pick but If you have gibbs, swift, jamo, and st brown on the field...someone is coming down with the ball...no defense in the nfl can cover them all
Yeah, that was weird but doesn't surprise me. I'm sure he'd say the same thing, colors changed obviously, about the Gibbs pick if Mike Tomlin was our coach.....right? Haha
I think Gibbs fits well with Detroit, but I think he would've been available when they drafted at number 18 and could've taken Forbes or Gonzalez to make the corner position stronger. With that said, and with the Gibbs pick, I would've taken Mazi Smith at 18 over Campbell. He's a great LB, but pairing Smith on the DL with Hutchinson would've set the DL with years to come.
I, like the talking head here, thought the pick was strange but DAMN it worked out. Gibbs is a stud, Campbell is going to be in the league 10 years. And the pick they got for the trade, turned into LaPorte. Add Branch late in the 2nd and Detroit got 4 player that will be pro bowl players.
Isn't the point that they could have still got them both by trading down from 12 - taking Gibbs at 18 & Cambell at 34 or whatever pick they swapped 12 for - if they weren't going to take a top ranked player? (Buccs may have wanted Kancey enough to give up 19 & a 3rd, giving Lions 6 picks between 18 & 82)
Confusing on day 1, but if Gibbs was a blue chip and Swift was still hurt then it makes complete sense. Robinson at 6 is a lot of money and the bell-cow doesn't always work out. Would the Cowboys like to have not drafted Elliot or Saquan injured in year 2 for a #2 first-round pick? Gibbs is dynamic, out of the backfield or in the slot. Boom!
Two great selections for the Detroit Lions! GM Brad Holmes doesn't care about the outside noise or mock drafts. They find football players who fit in their organizational structure.
@@Enigmalake lmao as a Lions fan of almost 30 years, I typically assume the worst until proven otherwise. My main issue with both picks is that they would both be available later in the draft, so they could have found a way to get more picks or other assets on top of the same 2 players. That being said, Holmes has done a great job in the draft in his tenure. I’ll hold my judgement until I see their on field production.

Dumb gamble. Just get him when you can
@@NicioTrevino patriots and jets didn’t want him
@@jacob45415 who cares the Lions thought that and they didn't think he be there at 18.
@@NicioTrevino cool
Still scratching your head?
Lions are were jacking the Seahawks.
They took Seattle's 20th pick
/player AT 12 because Sea took their 6th pick/player. Sea lost AR so they went next best player. Ooh well. A few years back SF was jumping in front of SEA each round and you see how well that turned out for them. Look out for the Lions 2023-24
The last running back the Lions took that high was Barry Sanders.
No Barry was the third overall pick
Running backs seem to be the ugly ducking in the NFL, but last I checked you still need a running back on your team.
Hey Florio you still scratching your head over what Brad Holmes was doing? Gibbs and LaPorta over Bijon any day fool.
All the Detroit picks getting shade will have extra FUEL filter for the fire! 🔥🦁
Holmes was so sure of Gibbs there was 8 minute plus left on the clock
I want to say Swift is in his last year in his contract? I think this will be his replacement. Won't cost as much right now and serves the same purpose. I have a feeling the Lions don't bring Swift back. Good player with a LOT of talent but injury stopping him form really coming into form I feel. I think this is going to be his replacement after this year.
Compare this draft (and last year too) and then remember Matt Millen. Brad Holmes is a genius conpared to everyone we've had in the past.
Gibbs speed and route ability is what they see.
Exactly, they think he is Deebo Samuel, not Alvin Kamara and worthy of a high pick. That being said Bijan is fine patch catcher himself
Good take and explanation to go along with it.
I love our picks, just not where we picked them.
there is no crystal ball saying where they dropped. no one expected levis to still be available or nolan smith to drop to 30. if they fit the culture you draft the player not the position
@@shawnvalentine7765 I don't disagree with that. Just not happy having a glaring need at IDL and not taking guys that don't fill that need.
It's definitely not Glaring or Brad Holmes and Regime would have dratted a IDL in round 1. Are you getting the picture I'm painting here armchair GM?
@@stopdroolin8418 hahaha.
I can't take someone seriously that says the Lions run defense is fine.
If you look up the stats of last year, we are literally the worst run defense in the league. But you do you tough guy.
@nathanbarnhart4363 I completely agree with you.
I trust Brad Holmes more than these two clowns.
Congratulations
I want to like the Lions. I really do but man you guys can't get out of your own way. Glad I'm a Steeler fan.

The whole "Johnny white guy" bit seems pretty dismissive, unnecessarily racially charged, and generally seems like it should be beneath professionals.
How what did it mean ??
Bro y’all gotta stop with this selective outrage stuff 😂 I don’t understand how anyone can take offense to literally everything in this PC cancel culture not that big of a deal.
They got Johnny white guy and Jamal black guy
@@to4316 The only difference is you'd get fired for saying one of those things.
What do you mean a linebacker gets drafted before A tight end? What does that even mean? Not everyone are followers One more thing what pick was AJ hawk picked at I'm pretty sure it was a top 5 pick
Holmes knows what he doing
The agenda against the running back in the NFL is getting to be absurd.
How is everyone liking that value at 12 now?
Robinson not as explosive nor a better receiver Gibbs fits Detroit better
I was told I was crazy and didn’t know shit about football when I said before FA we was drafting a rb at 6 or trading back and taking one. I did think it was Bijan. But now thinking about it, when you run a 2 back system, you don’t want the rbs to be the same type of rb. Bijan and Monty are the same with Bijan being the better. Gibbs is totally different and that change of pace back compared to Monty. Great pick at a position of greater need than anyone thought. I saw it!
I like the pick it’s just you sign David and with swift injury concerns I understand the pick it’s just you had other needs you know so make no mistake Bryce rely on Gibbs heavily on offense…when Gibbs struggled bama offense pretty much rely on 9 to bail them out
GIBBS + LAPORTA > ROBINSON
If they like him , they save money on rb from 6 to 12 and pick up 34 , not bad to me
true. We just have too many defensive needs for me, we couldve got a dawg (no pun intended actually) either nolan or jalen carter but lions is all stoic, clean culture now lol so I get it 🙄🤷🏿♂️
@@misters4022 got 3 second round picks coming up… still some amazing te on the board and plenty of defensive players.
Sheesh...
Johnny "white guy?" Stopped listening after hearing that.
Swift managed 208 rushing yards on 55 carries in Detroit’s last nine games. No longer a threat to any opponents defensive strategy.
All these broadcast pundits do not understand this fact.
Gibbs is a homerun hitter this kid will make an immediate impact on the team, the Lions got it right!
Ben Johnson’s offense is built around explosive plays. Whose more explosive Bijan or Gibbs?? 🦁🩸
We are no longer just a football team. We are brothers in arms and you better believe our guys will die before defeat. Trust the process!
Should have got Bijan at 6! it's a big difference between the two!
🤡🤡
My man is always hating on them lions.
As a lifelong Lions fan I lost all faith in him after these last few drafts our defense has been awful and you use two first-round picks on offensive skill players that's unforgivable
Lay off the meth
Then jump off the bandwagon and don't come back. Or quit using words like "unforgiveable" when you have no intention of leaving.
Last I looked, Jack Campbell is not a offensive skill player.
@@daveh1869 I think he’s referring to jamo and now Gibbs
People already forgot they added 3 quality dbs during free agency
Look how great the Lions draft is. From a C grade to A. In Holmes we trust. Go Lions
Aged like a glass of milk🤣🤣
Mike really needs to move on from the "kneecap" quote. It's exhausting.
I think gibbs to Det n Atl getting Robinson worked out for both sides
....
I think it’s a good draft pick. Kids a star
I wonder if they thought Bijan would be there then got surprised by Atlanta.
The draft room reaction says that was there guy!
@Matthew Tippett maybe, but they all know they are on camera. Never see a room that looks disappointed. Certainly maybe the Cowboys when they got jumped... 😂
Nope, they wanted a guy who could catch it out of the backfield like Gibbs
@@xArtoriasTheAbysswalker 🤪 Bijan's little bro.
Saw an interesting comment elsewhere where it was said that the Lions in the first two days took a whole crop of 18 overall draft picks. :)
So you don’t like Jack Campbell in that Defense??? How? Gibbs is an amazing player too doesn’t seem as flashy as Robinson. We will see. Not even a lions fan but I think they had a great draft if you like the player pick him!!!

As a lions fan I didn't like the pick but
If you have gibbs, swift, jamo, and st brown on the field...someone is coming down with the ball...no defense in the nfl can cover them all
My favorite part was when he pointed out both guys are white. Thank you for that
Yeah, that was weird but doesn't surprise me.
He's a great LB, but pairing Smith on the DL with Hutchinson would've set the DL with years to come.
clearly jamo missing 6 games is the reason for a skill set pick in gibbs...thanks jamo smh😒
Boom!
Pats would have drafted Gibbs at #14, not really room to trade back. They said Campbell was BPA on their board.
Two great selections for the Detroit Lions! GM Brad Holmes doesn't care about the outside noise or mock drafts.
They find football players who fit in their organizational structure.
Yeah. You juggernaut Lions franchise 😂
@@mikefarran8669 Great take. I don’t necessarily understand taking those players at those spots right now, but BH has given us no reason not to trust him. No more SOL negative reactions to everything!
@@mikefarran8669 Its doubtful theyd be there later, the Patriots expressed interest in Gibbs and traded down soon after Gibbs went off the board. In a class with not a lot of super top end talent, Campbell is very likely to be gone by our next pick (34).
I love trading down. It's a great strategy!
Great revisiting this... So funny he talks about Dan Campbell and Chris Spielman wrestling around breaking furniture. When Brad is the craziest one 😂 shiela was so smart getting chris, he changed the culture.
