Yes, if these players turn out really good then Holmes will look like a genius but if not, he'll look like a total idiot. This draft will make it break him
Gibbs is a great pick! At 34. How do you start out the night with a pick at 6 and 18 and end the night with these selections and call it a successful 1st round?
Jalen Carter being successful in Philly, does not mean he would have been successful in Detroit. Philly's defensive line room is much better set up to keep Carter focused. Plus, just go back to Holmes' press conference after Carter's visit. Regardless of what Brad Holmes was saying, he was subconsciously shaking his head "NO" the whole time. Holmes did not like Carter, period!!!
Ding ding ding ding ding 💯 Philly is the *perfect* spot for Carter. Jordan Davis, Nakobe Dean and now Nolan Smith + Fletcher Cox. Carter needs a structured environment and Philly has that in spades. The odds of him being good there are exponentially higher than anywhere else. And the fact Seattle passed I think tells you everything you need to know about Carter and Wilson. It wasn't just Brad. I think people forget you are drafting human beings. The person is just as important as the athlete, if not much more important. Especially in Detroit where we are still building a culture. The goal is to build the best collection of people, not highest ratings on Madden
Check the production, stop looking at the Mock Drafts, and underware olympics for players. None of these Mock drafters work for any NFL teams, I wonder why? Production, Production, and did I mention Production, that is what most teams are looking at! The game film/video's that is where you know whether you have an athletic FOOTBALL player and not a work out warrior.
History will show that not taking Carter at 6 and trading 6 and getting Gibbs and LaPorta both for that pick, was the best thing Lions did and that combination will greatly outperform Carter coming season and forever!! Swift could not play most of the season and was going to be traded, Gibbs was 10 times improvement with superb talent, versatility as a receiver and durability!! What Holmes and Lions did, was shun all the so called " mock experts", who are mostly wrong year after year anyway and found gems those fit there culture, attitude and NFC style of play: versatile, football intelligence loaded, tough minded, run heavy football!! Watch out for these Lions! They will be in Superbowl this year with Gibbs, Campbell, Branch and Laporta out performing all other rookies at their positions and already a grit and character infused team ready to pounce anyone in their way and hungry for the ultimate!!! In Brad We Trust! At the end of the year he will be "mocking"😜 the "mock experts"!!!!
Cant say how Gibbs pick goes without knowing what we get for Swift. Do we want pick 34, Gibbs and (X) over Carter? Leaning towards yes, not sure yet. We'll have to beat the Eagles to take the NFC this year, and that is the goal. We'll find out.
It does not really matter because one thing is clear - they were not going to take Carter. As soon as Seattle didn't take them - I told my sister -they will trade out of this pick - and they did.
Rico's hilarious here. Not that he wanted Carter...but for clowning them at the end of this clip about having the option to take "15 other running backs." Mind you, this was the same guy who was trying to sell you hardcore on getting Saquon Barkley when his name was thrown out there as a trade option. As if Gibbs cannot be the EXPLOSIVE WEAPON RB of this draft.
He was trying to give away assets to get him too. The Lions acquired assets to get a rb with less miles. Rico should be happy lmao. They did exactly what he wanted while simultaneously gaining draft capital 😂😂

They have a lot of big dogs in that position group - he is not going to or need to be the guy - it is the best possible situation for him. for his sake hopefully he can blend in - and do some growing up while he learns to be a pro.
Holmes said they felt that the drop off after Gibbs at RB was significant.
adrian peterson AND ezekiel elliot both went first round.
Watch a LB try to cover gibbs
People had to sleep on it to realize BH is cookin
They should have gotten better, they got 5 picks in top 100. It's not the way I would have done it but I can see there madness. This offense may be the best in the NFL now and they dealt with the def secondary in the off-season and made a weakness a strength. I would have liked to have strengthened the defense and offensive lines earlier but this team is going to be hard to stop if the lines can stay somewhat healthy.
You can be upset/happy about picks but it's not worth calling it a success/failure when you haven't seen how they end up yet
We got clearly better on offense and defense. I can't wait for the rest of the picks.
Gibbs is the most explosive offensive weapon in this year's draft.
Gibbs was going to be taken at 14
he wasn't making it to the 2nd round, Chiefs and Jets wanted him.
Teams don’t pass on a guy because other GMs pass on a guy. Guys slide because GMs don’t talk & all the predictions are made by people on the outside.
Ding ding ding ding ding
💯
Philly is the *perfect* spot for Carter.
If William Anderson was that pick 6 I believe Brad Holmes would have got him
History will show that not taking Carter at 6 and trading 6 and getting Gibbs and LaPorta both for that pick, was the best thing Lions did and that combination will greatly outperform Carter coming season and forever!!
I saw a couple "experts " say before the draft say that Gibbs is more explosive and has more upside than Bijan .
We got 2 for 1 In Gibbs to replace Swift n Jamo suspension for 6 games. Brad homes is Cooking . 🍳 Pay attention. Stay tuned!!!!
GIBBS CAN LINE UP IN THE SLOT, BEN JOHNSON IS DOING ALGEBRAIC EQUATIONS DREAMING UP SCENARIOS FOR GIBBS..THIS WAS BEN JOHNSON PK..LETS FACE IT GOFF DOESN'T HAVE THE STRONGEST ARM OR THE FASTEST QB, BUT HE IS A SMART QB N GIBBS GIVES GOFF ALL SORTS OF HIGH SAFE LITTLE PASSES THAT GIBBS CAN GAME CHANGING PLAYS
Goff Arm is strong
I actually agree with Rico here.
Rico is so hard to listen to. He's always just reacting on emotion without any strong reasoning.
Why y’all stay hating Rico? He’s a man and he’s entitled to his opinion not everyone has to be in agreements.
@@timothy8766 But you should give legitimate reasons for disagreeing other than "that's how I feel". Especially when you're being paid for your insight.
Swift traded to Eagles for 7th round and 4th round picks in 2025.
Trust brad Holmes. Simple as that
Gibbs is far better than Robinson within our scheme, period. I'm completely stoked with this draft so far, but hey, who am I.
Bama took Gibbs out in tough yardage plays and around the red zone.
And a healthy Swift was so unreliable that he wasn't even used on 1st and 10 with a great o-line.
Mike's drinking the Kool-aid. It's sad.
I was happy with the trade but ruined a good pair of underwear with the 12th pick. I like the 18th pick though.
Gotta learn football
@@donbur1553 I don't hate the 12th pick. Gibbs is a stud and Swift is a dud but I was shocked that a RB would be our first pick. He's fast, solid and can pick up the slack with Jamo being gone 6 weeks. I trust our GM for the first time in my life.
Howie is trying to put the Georgia defense and the Alabama offense together. heres the deal rico davis is question mark and dean is too rn. Carter and ringo were both guys that had work ethic concerns made by georgias coaches themselves so to me i just dont see these georgia guys being good i think its their system honesly
Problem is Gibbs probably would've been there at 18 regardless and you passed up on the 2 best d lineman in the draft
Jets would’ve taken him a couple picks after us
Terrible point
not at all what the scuttlebut is - the patriots were going to take him @ 14 i have heard from multiple sources . I wanted them to improve their defense - especially against the run - It looks to me like they are doing that by building a very strong running game - control the ball and the clock.
Kinda turned out
Is Rodrigo not good or something
Show me a guy who was mocked between the mid 30s to 50s who went in the first round who is not a Detroit Lion today?
Nolan Smith might have the best character of any player in college football. What in the hell is that guy talking about. The issue was his injury concerns not his character My God what a major screw up that was
Rico knows nothing about football. It's a shame he's on here with Mike. Lazy.
St brown is gonna eat these first 6 games
It’s the truth
Why so much quibbling over 12 or 18? Brad wanted him; Brad him; we get to watch him play.
Jalan carter was the move!!!
Why didn’t Sea take him then?
38 games. 83 tackles. 19 TFL. 6 sacks. This is the "elite" DT that everyone was pushing this year. Carter will be a bust. Average DT at best.
This didn't age well for Rico.
I'm glad these guys don't work in the Lions front office.
Nolan Smith is the most respected player by other players from the uga 22 national championship team. If you watched them play ever (with him on the field), you would know he is always getting everyone lined up on the dl. As far as between the ears what the hell is this show talking about His major is in the mathematics and he plans to follow up and complete civil engineering in the next off season. Don’t know where these guys are getting info. The only flag was that he had a torn pec last year
I'm shocked teams passed on Smith as well. I would have loved if the Lions got him at 18. I doubt Jalen Carter will be a problem for the Eagles now that Smith will be there to keep him in check. The Eagles got who the Lions should have in the first round.
I’m so sick of Positive Mike. I was ready for a rant. Give em time, I guess. They’ll let him back down soon enough.
And yes, you’re selling me a shovel full of horse bleep.
So you love pain?
@@theprodigyofrock I love Valenti’s pain.
They shouldve traded up for richardson. I like the draft though, i give it a B.
I like the Campbell pick..Gibbs..questionable pick..but it’s a risk..swift was hurt pretty much his time with the lions, Montgomery miss games with the bears. Deebo can’t sustain playing rb/wr hybrid..this pick reminds of bears moving up to take trubisky while hearing some team would trade up and take him..I guess the lions had ghost whisper..lol
Here's the thing you have to explain to the dummies. Every single draft pick ever made is a chance, risk, gamble. Because hindsight is so valuable (not really). At 1 point and time BARRY SANDERS was a risk. So was Andra Where r u. Get the point. Seem like good picks. But only time will tell. Philly might've gotten very rich. Or has some tasty trade bait.
I used to know some ex lions players way back when. I remember when Andre Ware showed up to camp- one look and they said - nope - guy can't play at this level - that was all. I can't tell you exactly why but they knew that easily.
I did. They didn't
For me, my view and opinion: they better win the north and a playoff game or this will supremely test my loyalty to this team.
Classic Valenti going against the popular opinion
I agree with Valenti usually but I hate this pick. We need defence and had our pick of Jalen Carter and Tyree Wilson. Obviously Jalen Carter must have had a terrible interview so I understand not taking him but we needed d line urgently
All I have heard since last year is how good they believe Josh Paschal is going to be now that he is healthy.
Guaranteed they tried to get cute and trade down and still get Bijon. Then they just reached for Gibbs
Doubt it
If a team is set on a player they want, the last thing they're going to do is trade down further when it isn't guaranteed that player is still there lol
Based on the reaction in the war room Gibbs was their guy.
Guaranteed your wrong asf
Dumb point
