- "Who can face the knowledge that the truth is not the truth. Obsolete. Absolute." Some people were critical of all the keyboards on Grace Under Pressure but it was fine by me. It was strange to see Geddy playing a Steinberger on this tour, I think he used in part because he was literally surrounded by keyboards. I was never a big Steinberger fan myself.
Hi.. I have watched these covers and I just want to thank you.. you inspire me.. I am 53 and just bought my first bass like 3 months ago.. you are.. I am sure a very busy person but.. can you remember way back when you started (as a kid for sure) what made the difference in learning the fretboard , reading notes, right hand technique etc? I kid you not I ive set aside (just this last week) 2 hours a night practicing.. ive a teacher also.. anyway sorry for being long winded .. you are fantastic
Yeah, I watched the music video for this song and loved the Steinberger. I thought it looked so cool. So I stopped saving my money up for a Rickenbacker, and went and searched up Steinberger basses, and I found a 5 string I could afford and bought it. I've loved it ever since.
The song that got me into Rush. Thank you. A massive fan of this channel
Very cool! Thanks so much!
probably my favourite Rush bass line oddly enough.Something about it thats fluid and kind of menacing.You play it perfectly...and you even threw in the fancy run at the end.Good feel for it.Nice work and a good sound balance...prob the best ive heard on here
This was the third Rush song I taught myself on bass and the fourth song overall I ever taught myself on bass. Very nice performance Troy, and thank you for sticking up for the Grace Under Pressure album. Each of the 80's albums from Rush that began to feature more synths, from Signals through Hold Your Fire, are vastly underrated.
Very cool. Thanks.
Yeah, noticed Geddy adopted the headless during Power Windows. Really the rave during the mid-'80's. Fender Jazz or Rickenbacker have the treble to seal the deal. Really digging your covers man. Spot on!
Thanks.
This was the first Rush song I learned on the bass back in the day when I first started playing. Got the tabs out of Guitar magazine I think and wore out the cassette tape. It's not one of Geddy's hardest lines, but it's hard enough to get your confidence and it's always cool to show it off to your high school buddies and all kinds of fun to play. Great groove to it. And as always, great job on it by you.
In this video it's just the bass straight into a small Fender SP-10 that is miked. On some later videos I started using my SansAmp pedal for a little grit.
Again... awesome job man! Wish we could play together, I'm a drummer and it's always a pleasure to hear a good bass player who shares very similar musical tastes
.
Thanks a lot. I don't play much outside my home...no time.
USAF/SAC had the DEW Line of RADAR stations - Distant Early Warning. Awesome cover!
Thanks!
Your vids made my day!
That's awesome to hear!
You have been my teacher since your first cover! thanks a lot for free classes! hehehehe
I listen to a Rush song and I know that Mr. T will be there with a cool bass cover, even if it's ten years old at this point. Some things are consistent in life, death, taxes and Troy's Rush covers.
Haha... thanks so much!
Yes, that is The Master.
WOW!!!!!! Geddy would be very proud!!!
Brilliantly played Troy!!!!!!!
Thanks.
Great job. Imagine singing and playing keyboards while playing the bassline.
Thanks.
awesome ! again !!!!!!
Thanks again!
Thank you so much for posting this! I'm so glad finally figure out how to play this song! :D
Thanks.
Absolutely awesome!!!!
Thanks.
You're awesome man , I'm trying to learn this song this video really helps out
Thanks. That's great to hear.
Thank you very much.
@hybridalienrob
That was just an ad lib. I don't tab at all. Sorry.
your tone is KILLER. is that JUST the bass itself? or are you tweaking the sound?
@Heartbeats2song
Great. Thank you.
Holy shit! It sounds EXACTLY the same. You're a wicked bass player :)
One of my all time favorite Rush songs, and as a beginner bass player I'm struggling to learn this song...
It's a great one. You'll get it!
Thanks for sharing.
Treble 2, Bass 4. I'm playing through a Fender SP-10 guitar amp so there's not a lot to it. Also, I'm playing at a very low volume.
@vizeeee I'm glad if this video helped.
@AaronShowbiz
Thank you.
excelent cover
Thank a lot.
@Thrasherlikeamaniac

@am2boni

@TJH3113 that's true...
You are the bomb! If I might ask, could you do some Steinberger covers?
@darrenedesignedu
I live in New Windsor, NY.
@cmitvtube Thanks again.
@AaronShowbiz
It's never too late to start.
So glad Ged ditched the Steinberger. This song sounds AWESOME with some wood behind it :).
It was a little murky sounding on the album, but I actually, I thought the Steinberger was one of his better sounding basses for the live shows he used it on. It cut through nicely.
Hi Troy, what about an update? 😊
But I'd have to get a Steinberger.
good job c:
Thanks.
@flux1991
Yes.
mmh I´ve been playing it wrongly those years
I thought I'd learnt this song until I watched this performance ;) What's the tab for that little fill at 4.42 - are you pulling off to the open string ?
nice job man
Thanks. When do you graduate?
If it's good enough for Jerry Casale...Steinberger
Yeah, I like Devo.
Great job on this one, too Mr. T.
Thanks.
@constantine2112 I'll say thanks.
TJH, that is beyond badass. Now I gotta practice more, lol. You're badd man ! sub'n for more !
Thanks for the kind words.
@TJH3113 I wish I could play bass. But I'm more of a drummer...
Q: hard song to cover?
Medium difficulty level for a Rush song. But what may be difficult for one person my be easy for another and visa-versa.
ok, looking to pick up bass and looking forward to learning Rush songs like these
Great masks
Thanks! Most are from Death Studios.
It's interesting how there are so many covers of Rush tunes out there but very few lessons - at least compared to songs by other bands. Why don't you take your channel to the next level and share what you know? Do some lessons on Rush or Yes songs. You could have a unique channel. A great bass player giving lessons on more advanced rock songs.
@mriguy37
Thanks.
