I love my country, and there is nothing boring about Dominica! The very fact that I can chose to walk from the city to my village at 11:00pm to 5:00am, in peace, and no fear of danger, this in itself is awesome! God bless my country to the fullest.!!!
Just came back to Germany after spending some weeks in Dominica. Being frustrated from the hectic, overregulated and consumption oriented European lifestyle in Guadeloupe and Martinique Dominica was exactly what I was looking for. Promoting a better nightlife in order to push economy is the wrong approach in my opinion. First the question - nightlife for who? For the tourists, the locals ? If for tourists dominica could never compete with Martinique for example anyway so what's the point . For tourists? I have seen that the locals have good fun in their little private parties or discos - they didn't seem to miss anything. Second usually this kind of businesses feed the people who already are well off already and this couple of local jobs it would generate is not worth to mention. I wished Dominica would stay like it is in this aspect and continue promoting what it has: A certain degree of being unspoiled and authentic . Also I have seen a lot of locals including younger ones that still have a great skillset in the area of farming or fishing. Always remember if u don't have skills you need money and vice versa. So keep the skills or develop them - so money is not needed as much as for example in other carribean islands. Stay free from the perversions of pure consumption and capitalism. Amen
Dominica is full of things to do. There's always a little fête or a bar, a Domino game, a river lime, a beach lime. There's our world creole music festival, creole and jazz, carnival and so much more. If one says Dominica is boring, they don't know how to have fun
I moved there in 1999 for med school.. left the island is 2002. During my time on the island I took advantage of visiting all of the surrounding islands to sight see and grab items to take back that aren't on Dominica. I loved EVERY aspect of the island. THE ONLY THING I HAD TO REALLY WORK AT WAS THE " ISLAND TIME " . I was from America and having to literally slow down , to me it seemed like turtle speed, was my only obstacle to defeat. My husband and and I have been looking for the past 15 years for a home with some land to buy and use as a vacation spot for our boys and also rent.... I miss my days on DOM all the time.
I do not think Dominica should introduce nightlife. It is fine as it is we do not need all that wetern world crap to spoil the beautiful island of Dominica.
What makes you think that adding a bunch of nightlife would prevent Dominica from being a poor nation? If anything it would just make a few people rich but degrade culture and the environment and quite possibly encourage some crime.
Western world crap?!! We already have a few American fast food franchises which many of the people love!! What's wrong with having both nature and nightlife? Many other countries have a good balance of both. I love Dominica but it would benefit socially and economically from some more fine restaurants, nightclubs, gyms and bars. Dominicans need jobs. Sensitively chosen businesses and intelligent change, that's what's needed.
Dominica is only going to be noticed as a destination with it's own unique and un-parallelled qualities if it is Marketed as such. There are places to go, even on what appears to be a boring night in Roseau. There are after-hours spots where I would take my visiting guests. Renting, or having access to a vehicle whilst visiting Dominica,is key. I am never bored for a second in DA.(as we affectionally call our Nature Isle) More so,Dominica is a 'Naturally-prepared ' photographers Paradise. We should promote this concept.Walk with your camera,or Smart-phone. So, between limin in the day (another great concept of ours-'limin') and hanging out at night (try Lagoon. We call there 'La-Goh')-; or out at The bars at WoodBridge Bay.Or maybe just the Village shop.Stay on the Bay-front, by FortYoung, or Garraways,or go up a lttle by Chez Ophelia,or leave the City behind and Stay ina motel in Portsmouth or the Kalinago Territories.Or maybe you just stay with a friend.
one only need to look at St, Thomas, and what it has become over the years to realize that Dominica is a nature island with a precious culture that needs to be protected the same as it's nature. and should never go down the path of trying to become rich from tourism. There are more creative and appropriate ways to bring prosperity to beautiful Dominica
What a forward-thinking place Dominica is. I have spotted a small house which we are seriously thinking about...it has inspired me to do some research. We live in France in the countryside at present and are used to rural life. But we want another adventure before we are too old. The people seem to have an impressive and out-going welcoming outlook. Beautiful place...but the volcanoes seem a bit scary!
I don't think you need to apologize for what your island might not offer compared to other places. To me what makes me want to visit there is the fact that you haven't yet produced all the trappings of tourism like the other places. Be what you are! Don't fall victim to trying to be what the other places are. Create your own unique things for people to do there. I for one am weary of going to places which are geared towards marketing to tourists. It would be neat to visit a place which stayed authentic!
I've loved in US all my life, mostly in Las Angeles. I've never visited Dominica, but after research, this seems to fit my personality. Nature, peace, yet still have mild night life such as music, concerts.
How is life in Dominica different from St. Lucia, Barbados or other places? Are the streets hilly or flat, and how many foreign expats live there, especially retirees?
Dominica is a destination for nature lovers and poeple looking for a slower pace of life. But if you are the spontaneous type looking to do something on any given day apart from the festival season after 6pm you will definitely be bored as the options are limited.
Sac passé my dominican brothers and sisters? "Haiti in house" My dream is to visit your beautiful island one day and enjoy the tranquility it offers. Map vini.
some of the interviews they showed ,saying dominica is not that boring to live there it is not true.dominica is a great insland to live on if you have lots and i mean lots of money ,you would live there like a king or a queen.dominica is a poor insland, with 99% of the people live in poverty.that girl leslassa armour-shillingford came from a rich and i mean rich family, they are known from every one on the island as super rich.there is no work in dominica,a lot of people have left dominica god blessed them and went to countries like the united states, england, and other countries, they established them selves in those countries for years, they made a lot of money retired in those countries, and then came back to dominica, now they had lots of money, they bought lands, build their homes and settle down.
This is from 2014, and I hope nothing has changed. I'll be honest, coming from Phoenix, AZ, and currently living in the UAE (Abu Dhabi and Dubai), I can tell you, if you open up more "night life" activities, you will attract the types of people that will change your country from now on., and not for the better. The charm of Dominica is the quiet life, the simple life. I say to Mr. Skerrit, PLEASE don't cave in to the tourist trap pressures. Keep Dominica the way it is. You can improve the infrastructure for your people (power, phones, water, etc), but find other ways of funding that.
I live on the east coast US and i this place seems like nirvana to me. I wish i was born there. Beautiful people and beautiful untouched country. I love it!!!
Don't open any nightlife there! It appears to be so peaceful.. so serene and beautiful.. so many places have nightlife and it is the downfall of the city. Keep it simple and quiet. If young Brits are saying they want to move there, it's because of the peace and tranquility.. much respect and love.
i love my country and dominica is not boring no way papa bodia dominca no way there's a saying that dominicacan's like to party. boy!!!! we like to and know how to party. BIGUP D/A 767. i'm from country side victoria, dominica have to nicest people and food and the way we talk, the way to talk it's the best. I am so privileged to have been born and raised for 12 years in dominica before coming up to london. in dominica in victoria that is where the victoria falls is just about 20/30 minutes from my house. dominica is a lovely place to live to vacation and overall dominica is the best caribbean island and not at all boring.
Awww, man, Dominica is anything BUT boring! There is always something to see or do, the people are the friendliest in the Caribbean (actually, the friendliest of ANY of the 46 countries I've visited), the beer is good, the rum is better... Anyway. I miss the place. I miss annoying Valina whilst getting my sundowner at Sisters, I miss Big Papa (RIP, old friend), I miss my breakfasts down the Indian River (RIP Isadora), I miss snorkelling round to Secret Bay and annoying them by turning up on their beach without being a guest of theirs. I don't miss LIAT (I took to flying into Guadaloupe and taking the ferry just to avoid them!). I miss my old mate Mac and his beautiful sister Anise. I long to return. As soon as this bloody pandemic lets up a bit I'm there. Via Guadaloupe to avoid LIAT, but I'm there. For now, I just watch youtube videos to remind me of the good times!
There is enough places with "wild" nightlife elsewhere in the world. Be unique! I find it intersting it seemingly has retained some of that more positive spirit since the days of pirates (im not saying pirates were all good no)
Whether or not anyone believes so, am of the opinion that it works for us, as we are not like the others, for we are known for our hospitality and friendly disposition. ♨️♨️💥💥💣💣🇨🇼🇩🇲🇩🇲

There are no boring islands only boring people
