- ARK: SURVIVAL EVOLVED FIRST EXCLUSIVE LOOK LIOPLEURODON DINO SPOTLIGHT 257! The Liopleurodon is almost like a low level Mosasaur. Although, the dossier says that the Liopleurodon isn't the fastest nor the strongest dino which questions what this dino could be used for. Do you find a use for this terrifying sea creature?
Wild
Liopleurodon Magicus is a mid-sized ocean predator. Typically between 20 and 25 feet long, it mostly hides within the reefs, waiting to ambush prey that swims by. Due to its low acceleration and medium speed, Liopleurodon tends not to chase prey that escape its initial devastating chomp attack.
Domesticated
Neither the fastest swimmer, nor the most powerful ocean predator, Liopleurodon still has its uses for those wanting to stay underwater for extended periods of time. Many tribes use Liopleurodon for long duration oil-and-oyster harvesting trips. Often, those who don't believe in the Liopleurodons' qualities are shunned.
Known Information
The species on the island almost seem to be magical. The reptile's skin secretes an oil that, when absorbed through the skin contact makes the rider process oxygen more efficiently for extreme diving. When trawling the ocean for resources, Liopleurodon will show you the way.

I love how practically every major guess he had was wrong except it being useless in battle.
It doesn't replace diplocaulus and doesn't have an oxygen ability,

It doesn't "seek out" resources, it just makes drops better

It has some useful things for it actually when going into the underwater cave it gives this magical effect and I'm pretty sure if it is leveled up a lot more it could be a pretty powerful creature but the bad part is, is that when searching for one they usually only spawn as lvl 6's :/

I think the liopleurodon will be useful, it could be a nice mid game mount for people who don't have scuba gear yet, that is if they don't pull a basilasaur and make the saddle a level fifty engram (I was so disappointed when I found out it was gonna be a late game mount). I don't really think the liopleurodon should even have a saddle though, it would make more sense for you to ride it bareback so the oil could get into your skin easier
Diplocalas are useful! I was being raided and while my big tanks defended like brontos and other herbivores, I snuck out my water base with 4 diplocalas filled with loot (I pumped weight and oxygen into them.) I hid in the ocean for about an hour in a safe spot and got back to my base and rebuilt. I made an alliance with a big clan and got revenge later that day.
I think it will be useful. Having to throw on scuba just to go get some pearls and oil is not only annoying but also expensive because you have to keep it repaired. At least this way you can use actual armor while diving. It's like the grocery store trip sedan. Not good for much else but super convenient when you need to go grab your adult diapers without all the hassle. Unfortunately little diplocaulus is now 200% more useless

Honestly, the diplocaules is a very underrated beginner water mount, I pick one up with an arge, fly it to the ocean and use it to get silica pearls, it is a very fast swimmer, and provides oxygen
I LITERALLY JUST WATCHED WALKING WITH DINOSAURS YESTERDAY
I assumed its skin would be more like a source of lazchow - you still use oxygen, just slower. Hopefully it lasts for a short while when you dismount. I'm hoping it highlights resources nearby passively, sorta like the Tek HUD but just for pearls and oil nodes. It'd be like a Scuba Mask and LazChow for mid-level players. That said - I think they really need to buff the resource yields and densities in the ocean, it's too dangerous for what works out as a sub-par source. You're better off trying to combat the cold for northern resources than trying to combat the ocean.

Honestly disappointed with the Pliosaurus that we got!!! Well it specifies that it is the Funkei, so the size is accurate! However it would have been interesting to get the 18+ meter pliosaurus! More appex predators in the game! For instance they could have used Liopleurodon Taxon, measuring arround 18-20 meters long...This would have been interesting, the Liopleurodon could roam the shallow far seas of the island, maybe packing up to kill Leedsithchis! Maybe once and then invading the mosasaurus zone or the Giant Squid zone to fight them! But instead we get this ridicule pliosaurus! really broken my childhood! Can't even kill a megalodon with this thing! Besides there is evidence that pliosaurus COULD after all probably reach 20+ meters, this is not fully proven however, but let's remember it's a game, this could happen....Perhaps later on we get an Alpha Liopleurodon which could in fact reach the proper 25m and terrorize the ocean! Or another Liopleurodon! just like we have Spinosaurus and Baryonix! I hope this is the Baryonix Though!

Nice vid ^-^ also I'm just gonna assume this is a good place to ask, I was messing around on the center and was at the north (ish) end of the easy island, thing is I saw a MASSIVE aquatic dino, thought it was a big megalo but when I used the kill command, I saw it wasn't, it looked more of an eel with about four fins, any idea what it is?

I feel like the liopluredon is rarer than the leedsichthys cuz you can easily find a leedsichthys but can't really find liopluredon easily
I'd much rather they add more stuff like this.
Stuff that has a use but doesn't make everything released earlier than it useless.
A huge majority of the dinos released with the game are now completely overshadowed by the newer monsters.
I'd rather have an island of meager creatures and a few outliers like the Rex/Giga/Mosasaur/Squid/Quetz so that encouraged variety when it came to the daily tasks you'd do on the island.
My tribe mate just used a oxygen salamander to tame himself a mossa and dunky, first time Iv seen anyone use it effectively.

In real life, Liopleurodon isn’t a dinosaur and instead a marine reptiles, moved one pair of flippers forward and the other pair back and repeat the cycle to push itself through the water, not push both pairs back at the same time, and it may have been fast too. It’s skull was two or three times the size of the Tyrannosaurus skull, so it’s likely it was 25 meters (80) feet long, so it was too big to hide in reefs.

In real life, Liopleurodon was 80 feet long. That’s 20 feet longer than a Mosasaurus. I really wish they update the Liopleurodon to be it’s actual size or at least close.
Edit: This information comes from my own personal encyclopedia of prehistoric life, however this book is rather old and could be greatly out dated by this time. It was written by palaeontologist Dougal Dixon and states that Liopleurodon was 80 feet long, so, it’s not my words, it’s his.
they really neeed to remake some of the old dinosaurs models like raptors for example and replace those spikelooking feathers with real feathers or just cover the whole animal with feathers.

Diplocaulus is very useful cuz it is kinda fast I accidentally tamed one in ragnarok and I thought, where is this thing good for? So it is a nice and easy tame
