I come to this video on what look like my final days in don’t starve. My food is depleted, my supply of wood is almost out, and with my last desperate attempt to stay alive I look to a TH-cam tutorial, only for it to tell me I should’ve done everything 15 days before.

Winter is about to begin for me and my friends but we should be good we got TONS of food and resources and they now what they are doing however I am very new and day 20 is the farthest I’ve ever survived.
Weebs are people who like animes I believe. Not that I think there's anything wrong with it, everyone has their enjoyments. How exactly does watching a tutorial on surviving winter in a game count as a weeb? Unless you're so pathetic to have nothing else to do with your life than to pick on someone. Is that your enjoyment? How you waste away the rest of yourself?

I've been trying to do well at this game for so long, and it's only this guide that's ever helped me. Other people's guides are along the lines of "don't worry about sanity, just go insane it's fine you can kite them, don't pick flowers, that's a terrible idea, you need to spend 3 hours killing butterflies later, etc." Tons of "pro" strats which I'm sure work if you're adept at the game, but I feel like they push people towards starts which are guaranteed to fail.
I agree! I always see everyone base by pig king bc you can give him trinkets. When I base near beefalo though I'm a noob? Grasslands provide rabbits. Beefalo provide wool, manure, and are a 24/7 defense against houmd waves. Pigs retreat during evening and night fall. Beefalo will kill them no matter the time though. When they go into heat just be aware and mind your distance I dont see how this is considered a "noob" thing to do.
Update, I joined a server just as winter started, we were thriving. There's this one guy who talks about soloing deerclops easily and that he wouldn't need us. So near the end of winter he brings everyone away from base to fight deer but I was lagging so I disconnect for a bit to fix it, I come back and deer spawns, but It doesn't spawn near them, it spawns near me, so our base was basically an island with the only way out being a wormhole, I jump threw and easily escape deer, the others come back and fight it. When I come back I just start getting notices of everyone dying, one person survived and the guy talking about soloing died first, made an excuse then left us to deal with deer. We revive the others and fight deer and we take it down easily. I ended up snagging the eye while everyone was rolling in meat and souls
if ur having trouble with finding a specific resourse i recomend not camping at night and instead keep exploring using torches. 2 torches should last a night on early fall.
The mozaic biome seems to always be conected to the starter biome. Start by mapping the starter biome until you find the mozaic and you'll find gold early. This is in DST. I haven't played single player for a long time, so I'm not sure if it's the same. Also the graveyard is in the mozaic, so there should be gold veins close.
feel like Wilson’s beard is severely underrated it’s one of the best perks in the game it can provide as much warmth as a winter hat and it can be shaved to make meat effigys to revive yourself
@@CBYT12 not really, once you have jerky, you always have high sanity, which is also kinda annoying if you want nightmare fuel for something, personally I use jerky as main food, it just lets me fuck around and stay healthy and sane no matter what. For how cheap drying racks are, I'd say they're OP.
This is such well made content! These guides always make everything seem so straightforward and simple, and watching them always makes me excited to play again... until I load up a world and spends weeks in-game trying to find "semi-rare" important resources. I had a map that I spent multiple seasons searching for gears and I never found a single one... all I wanted was a goddamned ice-box!! The very next world I generated had clockworks EVERYWHERE... The worst is when I couldn't find gold until I was more than halfway through autumn. Sometimes I wish the rng was a bit less random, but I suppose that's part of the fun. Thanks for all the guides Beard!!!
I died in winter because of Heat... How I did it 1. Had a warm thermal stone 2. Beefalo hat and the blue best (Is it puffy vest?) 3. 3 100% fueled firepit That's how I died in winter
I was on day 21. I woke up to snowbirds and everything looking bluer. I then looked up when winter starts and found this video. I didn't even get through half of the video and died on day 24. After watching this, I'm now prepared for winter.
Doesn't flowers respawn in the spring or is that wrong? Ive been playing on an easy mode and just made a new server with the seasons on, After 1000 days into the game I decided to try and turn the seasons on and you can't adjust that setting after its been selected, But if flowers do respawn in the spring, then I guess its ok to do in your first Autumn just to prepare for winter
I think the "grass land" biome is actually called savanna, and the light green turf biome is the grass land. Nice to see someone still doing the DST videos, BTW.
These “what to prep for & how” guides are great. Thank you. I’m still a newbie and just about get through winter, but I’m wasting so much time browsing the recipes trying to remember what I need each time I play, that I’ll lose days just trying to organize my shopping lists and wind up unprepared for short term surprises and long-term recovery from constant emergencies lol.

Probably the most complete guide for beginners. It covers almost every basic aspect of the game, from preparation to winter to basic base building, berry bush farm and so on. Once again even considering myself a seasoned player i often find myself kinda lost about what to do next so dont feel ashamed and write down what u see here, cause i will.
For the berry / gobbler farm, I put it in the savanna. Soon after, it was attracting rabits, but they ran away if I got near them. So I put 1 trap on each side, and then it turned into a berry / gobbler / rabbit farm :D

Hands down the best DST's winter guide on youtube. I couldn't get to spring, I kept dying either for food or insanity. I have been struggling with winter so much so that I cheat with the world gen and make Autumn long and Winter short, just because I'm so bad. Well thanks for this! I found this really useful and managed to get a semi functional base within 8 days! Of course my fun was vertibly cut short by a hound attack, so yay.
Although gathering flowers for rot is a good idea, I’m sure that the flowers would be much more useful if left on the ground in order to spawn more butterfly’s you could instead gather ferns/lightbulbs in the caves which have the same spoiling times
The reason why I value butterfly’s so much is because of how easy they are to kill and gain butterfly wings (12hunger, 8 health) and a chance to get butter which gives a whopping 40 health
I'm sure there was major *CRINGE*... You do realize that flowers are a renewable resource, yes? And they depend on Bees, so as long as bees are around, flowers are and will forever be plentiful, especially in the Bee Queen biome where you should be doing most of your flower pickups regardless. I'm all for people calling me out on things and voicing whatever opinions and strats they have but when they are blatantly wrong and the finger is pointed at me for no reason, then I just need to shut it down. Perhaps doing a little research before you comment like this is in order for the next time.

Penguls can help you with farming mobs like spiders, merms, beefalo. They can also help you with hounds and after spawning them, you will also spawn 1 pickaxe worth of ice in their's nest. If mac tusk is close enough, they will rekt him for you. A usseful mob if you know how to use them.
I like to make sure to spawn lots of penguls. All of their "camps" have 3-5 ice piles which I love to just fill a full icobox with. And they can help you with things. Like hounds. Not very great when it comes to dearclops but they actually helped me a bit.

Keep trying! I'm not a very skillful player (I rarely engage in combat because I'm clinically uncoordinated), but I have no problem surviving winter. If you're still struggling try this system, which is slightly different than Beard's, as a lot of his strategies are more advanced and require you to fight a lot, which can set you back if it goes badly: 1. Play as Wilson and don't shave your beard, as it's great insulation (be careful when you are shaving beefalo!) 2. Locate yourself next to 5+ bunny holes at the side of the savanna (but NOT right next to the beefalo). This will ensure you have enough bunny meat, wool, and a place to take the hounds. 3. Make the crockpot and at least five drying racks (I plant pine cones in an open space to make charcoal as I don't like to destroy forests). 4. Shave the beefalo often (at night, while holding a torch in one hand and moving the razor onto the beefalo). Get as much wool as you can as it's an excellent fuel source and much more efficient than chopping trees unless you have an army of pigmen. Don't forget that they'll be ornery on the first 1-2 days of winter! 5. Get enough silk and wool to make a winter cap. With a full beard, a winter cap, and a thermal stone you can last almost the whole day. I usually don't kill beefalos myself, I wait until Deerclops / pengulls do some in and then make a beefalo hat with the horn. 6. Grass and twigs are VERY important to replant, but if it takes you a long time to get set up, you won't get many berry harvests, so don't worry about those too much in the first year. I rarely replant more than 20 twigs / 20 grasses before the start of winter and instead of picking flowers (I save them for emergency sanity boosts and because I like how they look), I rely on beefalo poop. I do pick/burn the evil flowers that are on well-traveled paths, though. 7. Don't worry about getting your garden set up until the end of winter unless you're playing as Winterbottom. Rely on monster meat + mushrooms/berries + ice to make meatballs and small dried jerky from the rabbits. 8. At the very start of winter (in the first 2-3 days?) walk around the edges of the biomes, especially the swamp and the savanna to attract lots of pengulls. THEN 1. Set up some pig houses to help you cut wood and fight baddies (I find 2-3 is plenty in the first year). Get into the cycle of fighting spiders to collect spider and pig drops. Take down 1-2 three-tier nests and relocate them nearby if you don't have any near your base. If you can relocate more, set some up in the savanna for epic spring-time battles between the spiders and beefalo. 2. Get some gears (helps to have pigs) and build a fridge. 3. Go to the swamp (with pigs) and get reeds for papyrus and if possible a tentacle spike. 4. Make a birdcage to make eggs out of monster meat and get ready for farming. 5. Make your farms. You won't need more than four once you get dragonfruit going (keep planting random seeds until you get a dragonfruit, then feed that to the bird to get 1-3 dragonfruit seeds, then replant only dragonfruit). 6. Watch for the full moon and get Glomer -great for your sanity and for fuel. If you have enough silk for a bug net make one and collect some fireflies on the same night. 7. Prep for fleeing Deerclops by preparing jerky, meatballs, torches/lanterns, a pre-built campfire, etc. 8. Collect as much ice as you can and make sure to save at least 30 for two ice flingomatics (summer is coming!). 9. Replant 10 berry bushes (you won't need many once you get dragonfruit going on your farm), but you'll need them in the spring when the rabbit holes close. 10. Collect lots of poop. 11. Get light bulbs from the caves to make lanterns. 12. Collect green spores from the caves and make the mushroom planter if you have enough silk for a bug net (this requires 8 rot and 2 living logs, though). 13. Make a sewing kit. 14. Make your lightning rods (spring is coming!). OTHER NOTES: I usually make a camp down near Mactusk when I have about 10 hounds teeth, sometimes in the first winter, sometimes in the second. Take rope, logs, the teeth, and stone down there, make and set up tooth traps at night and a firepit nearby. With a full beard + winter cap + thermal stone + chester you can spend a lot of time traveling and living off of the land in winter -IF you haven't uprooted all of the berry bushes, picked all the carrots/flowers, etc. Unlike Beard and most other TH-camrs, I have a very small base. You don't need to worry about making multiple fridges or crockpots, planting a huge farm, or making a bazillion chests, especially in the first year. It takes a lot of time to collect all of those resources, and if you're solo it's more efficient to just "live small."

*laughs in 'only managed to reach winter once'* I thought that I might be able to make it at least halfway through, then a beefalo killed a red hound right next to my base. Literally everything burned to ash in 5 seconds. I stared at it for a minute, then punched a beefalo and let it kill me so I could start over.
Also beard spawn pengulls as you can put them to sleep with your pan flute one now and then to get their eggs they drops during the day. So spawn as maby as you can to get free eggs fast and also some protection to hounds. As a wise man once said *don't underestimate the pengulls*
The "you reep what you sow" update made it so plants grow all year around (just grow faster in certain seasons, like potatos in which grow faster in winter, spring, and autumn

Save the butterfly spawns!! Dont pick flowers for rot they spawn an awesome autumn/summer snack. Pick lots of lightbulbs. They rot faster and will regen in 5-6 days.
This is for early game beginners, I really don't see newbies wanting to head into the caves early one, especially with the amount of folk asking me to make a guide for it as they have no clue how to handle it. That being said, I agree completely and I use lightbulbs for rot almost exclusively when I play myself!

I prefer to get football helmet, ham bat, and lantern ASAP and replant resources in spring because I don’t always play wicker bottom, maybe rush ruins or Dfly, or both if I make extra long autumn but this guide did rlly help me when I started :)
Wow. I’ve been playing this game since insanity was introduced in the original, and yet I’ve always sucked. This video helped me realize why; I’m a coward. I prioritized making a base ASAP instead of hunting/gathering to prepare for winter. I was too busy doing things like crafting pretty carpets instead of being too busy gathering to prepare for winter, so I’d always die around early to mid winter. Thanks for the guide.
A tip for Wigfrid players- Collect logs to make boards and hit pig houses with hammers to get pigskin. Then, do the berrybush technique but build pighouses around instead. If you have monster meat, you can also feed the pigs if they all come after you. Plus, once you feed them enough monster meat, werepigs can also give a lot of pigskin and meat
"Don't underestimate the power of the Pengulls" - can confirm. The first time I ever made it to winter, I died a few days in, cause I needed food and thought "how bad can a bunch of noisy birds be?"
I've been playing don't starve for 5 days, and thanks to you i discovered that rot and help fertilize the farms, i always picked up these disgusting things and asked myself if i would ever use it, and yes, the time has came, thanks so much dude :)
pengal is actually really good for eggs when they set up camp they will spawn their eggs and if you approach when they are awake they will run and pick up their eggs. but when asleep they will leave the eggs out this is a very quick and easy way to get eggs which make the best healing item in the game.
As soon as I saw you were building your base at the edge of the world I knew you'd have problems with the pengulls. Happens to me when I build on the edge.

Two things: 1. Don't base near water. Pengulls are a pain 2. You don't need to harvest/replant twigs and grass if you base near Dfly desert; however; be careful about tumbleweeds getting set on fire and then spreading that fire to your base
During the first couple of days of winter I make a point of summoning pengulls along the edges of the swamp with tentacles, forests with spiders, and savanna with too many beefalos. The loot drops are great, especially if you're a crap fighter like me.
The twigs aren't much of an issue come winter. You can always use twiggy trees which grow through out winter, and are easier to harvest than saplings. You can also plant a pinecone, and then immediately shovel them for twigs too.
You'll come to discover that I have a fiery hate for twiggy trees... hence why I will likely never talk about them unless I'm burning them to the ground!
I always thought that seasons like summer and winter were boring, because in the beginning and end you play regularly, but smack in the middle, all you do is sit around, eat food and fuel the fire to stop from overheating or freezing to death, like yeah, You COULD go kill deerclops or the dragonfly, but by the first winter no one could be THAT prepared yet.
Wow that is some epic early base prep :D I love the gobbler trap. If we follow your layout, did you plan space for flingomatics? As a note to less practised players, since that's who 'winter survival' is aimed at, I'd like to qualify that you don't actually need *all* that to survive, so don't be intimidated! - although obviously it does make it easier, and frees up time to do other things early on, helping to get ready for the bosses. (But giving them more to destroy if you are not good at handling bosses...) I really like your 'how to' guide for betraying (sorry, luring ;) a beefalo, but I love sneaking around them with a torch and a razor too, you get tons of hair in one night. Just for the love of Maxwell do NOT right click..! XD

I use willow at most of the times i play since she dosent need a torch and i can start collecting charcoal at night one and if i happen to find gold i have Crockpot at day 2 anyways nice guide it helped me since i am a new player the whole upper section was to say a way you can save more resources keep up the good work
Willow is a really good character for being the second to third one you unlock. (I say third depending on if you manage to get Webber's Skull) She is good for night travel, gathering charcoal, gaining easy sanity, and just having the advantage in any situation that involves fire. Based on how easy it is to unlock her, a lot of beginners I see using Willow. But nobody can ever deny the fact that Wickerbottom is the best character for getting sticks, grass, and any type of resource that is affected by her growing spell.
Wendy isn't a bad character either, because Abigail is good for farming things like butterfly wings, and morsels from moles. Not biased from Wendy being my favourite character, but I would say Wendy is a pretty character.

Day 2, Beard finds 3 gold veins all together.
Day 12 - after not even setting up a base yet I finally found a source of gold - a graveyard.

I was on day 21. I woke up to snowbirds and everything looking bluer. I then looked up when winter starts and found this video. I didn't even get through half of the video and died on day 24. After watching this, I'm now prepared for winter.

Doesn't flowers respawn in the spring or is that wrong? Ive been playing on an easy mode and just made a new server with the seasons on, After 1000 days into the game I decided to try and turn the seasons on and you can't adjust that setting after its been selected, But if flowers do respawn in the spring, then I guess its ok to do in your first Autumn just to prepare for winter

Probably the most complete guide for beginners. It covers almost every basic aspect of the game, from preparation to winter to basic base building, berry bush farm and so on. Once again even considering myself a seasoned player i often find myself kinda lost about what to do next so dont feel ashamed and write down what u see here, cause i will.
For the berry / gobbler farm, I put it in the savanna. Soon after, it was attracting rabits, but they ran away if I got near them. So I put 1 trap on each side, and then it turned into a berry / gobbler / rabbit farm :D

Although gathering flowers for rot is a good idea, I’m sure that the flowers would be much more useful if left on the ground in order to spawn more butterfly’s you could instead gather ferns/lightbulbs in the caves which have the same spoiling times

The reason why I value butterfly’s so much is because of how easy they are to kill and gain butterfly wings (12hunger, 8 health) and a chance to get butter which gives a whopping 40 health

You do realize that flowers are a renewable resource, yes? And they depend on Bees, so as long as bees are around, flowers are and will forever be plentiful, especially in the Bee Queen biome where you should be doing most of your flower pickups regardless.
I'm all for people calling me out on things and voicing whatever opinions and strats they have but when they are blatantly wrong and the finger is pointed at me for no reason, then I just need to shut it down. Perhaps doing a little research before you comment like this is in order for the next time.

That is exactly why I continue to make guides for a game that is relatively old at this point, as many are not beginner friendly!
Penguls can help you with farming mobs like spiders, merms, beefalo. They can also help you with hounds and after spawning them, you will also spawn 1 pickaxe worth of ice in their's nest. If mac tusk is close enough, they will rekt him for you. A usseful mob if you know how to use them.
Plus quite a few spoiled eggs when they despawn :)
I like to make sure to spawn lots of penguls. All of their "camps" have 3-5 ice piles which I love to just fill a full icobox with. And they can help you with things. Like hounds. Not very great when it comes to dearclops but they actually helped me a bit.

Keep trying! I'm not a very skillful player (I rarely engage in combat because I'm clinically uncoordinated), but I have no problem surviving winter. If you're still struggling try this system, which is slightly different than Beard's, as a lot of his strategies are more advanced and require you to fight a lot, which can set you back if it goes badly:
1. Play as Wilson and don't shave your beard, as it's great insulation (be careful when you are shaving beefalo!)
2. Locate yourself next to 5+ bunny holes at the side of the savanna (but NOT right next to the beefalo). This will ensure you have enough bunny meat, wool, and a place to take the hounds.
3. Make the crockpot and at least five drying racks (I plant pine cones in an open space to make charcoal as I don't like to destroy forests).
4. Shave the beefalo often (at night, while holding a torch in one hand and moving the razor onto the beefalo). Get as much wool as you can as it's an excellent fuel source and much more efficient than chopping trees unless you have an army of pigmen. Don't forget that they'll be ornery on the first 1-2 days of winter!
5. Get enough silk and wool to make a winter cap. With a full beard, a winter cap, and a thermal stone you can last almost the whole day. I usually don't kill beefalos myself, I wait until Deerclops / pengulls do some in and then make a beefalo hat with the horn.
6. Grass and twigs are VERY important to replant, but if it takes you a long time to get set up, you won't get many berry harvests, so don't worry about those too much in the first year. I rarely replant more than 20 twigs / 20 grasses before the start of winter and instead of picking flowers (I save them for emergency sanity boosts and because I like how they look), I rely on beefalo poop. I do pick/burn the evil flowers that are on well-traveled paths, though.
7. Don't worry about getting your garden set up until the end of winter unless you're playing as Winterbottom. Rely on monster meat + mushrooms/berries + ice to make meatballs and small dried jerky from the rabbits.
8. At the very start of winter (in the first 2-3 days?) walk around the edges of the biomes, especially the swamp and the savanna to attract lots of pengulls.
THEN
1. Set up some pig houses to help you cut wood and fight baddies (I find 2-3 is plenty in the first year). Get into the cycle of fighting spiders to collect spider and pig drops. Take down 1-2 three-tier nests and relocate them nearby if you don't have any near your base. If you can relocate more, set some up in the savanna for epic spring-time battles between the spiders and beefalo.
2. Get some gears (helps to have pigs) and build a fridge.
3. Go to the swamp (with pigs) and get reeds for papyrus and if possible a tentacle spike.
4. Make a birdcage to make eggs out of monster meat and get ready for farming.
5. Make your farms. You won't need more than four once you get dragonfruit going (keep planting random seeds until you get a dragonfruit, then feed that to the bird to get 1-3 dragonfruit seeds, then replant only dragonfruit).
6. Watch for the full moon and get Glomer -great for your sanity and for fuel. If you have enough silk for a bug net make one and collect some fireflies on the same night.
7. Prep for fleeing Deerclops by preparing jerky, meatballs, torches/lanterns, a pre-built campfire, etc.
8. Collect as much ice as you can and make sure to save at least 30 for two ice flingomatics (summer is coming!).
9. Replant 10 berry bushes (you won't need many once you get dragonfruit going on your farm), but you'll need them in the spring when the rabbit holes close.
10. Collect lots of poop.
11. Get light bulbs from the caves to make lanterns.
12. Collect green spores from the caves and make the mushroom planter if you have enough silk for a bug net (this requires 8 rot and 2 living logs, though).
13. Make a sewing kit.
14. Make your lightning rods (spring is coming!).
OTHER NOTES:
I usually make a camp down near Mactusk when I have about 10 hounds teeth, sometimes in the first winter, sometimes in the second. Take rope, logs, the teeth, and stone down there, make and set up tooth traps at night and a firepit nearby.
With a full beard + winter cap + thermal stone + chester you can spend a lot of time traveling and living off of the land in winter -IF you haven't uprooted all of the berry bushes, picked all the carrots/flowers, etc.
Unlike Beard and most other TH-camrs, I have a very small base. You don't need to worry about making multiple fridges or crockpots, planting a huge farm, or making a bazillion chests, especially in the first year. It takes a lot of time to collect all of those resources, and if you're solo it's more efficient to just "live small."

I thought that I might be able to make it at least halfway through, then a beefalo killed a red hound right next to my base. Literally everything burned to ash in 5 seconds. I stared at it for a minute, then punched a beefalo and let it kill me so I could start over.

Also beard spawn pengulls as you can put them to sleep with your pan flute one now and then to get their eggs they drops during the day. So spawn as maby as you can to get free eggs fast and also some protection to hounds. As a wise man once said *don't underestimate the pengulls*

Save the butterfly spawns!!
Dont pick flowers for rot they spawn an awesome autumn/summer snack. Pick lots of lightbulbs. They rot faster and will regen in 5-6 days.
This is for early game beginners, I really don't see newbies wanting to head into the caves early one, especially with the amount of folk asking me to make a guide for it as they have no clue how to handle it.
That being said, I agree completely and I use lightbulbs for rot almost exclusively when I play myself!

Wow. I’ve been playing this game since insanity was introduced in the original, and yet I’ve always sucked. This video helped me realize why; I’m a coward. I prioritized making a base ASAP instead of hunting/gathering to prepare for winter. I was too busy doing things like crafting pretty carpets instead of being too busy gathering to prepare for winter, so I’d always die around early to mid winter. Thanks for the guide.

A tip for Wigfrid players- Collect logs to make boards and hit pig houses with hammers to get pigskin. Then, do the berrybush technique but build pighouses around instead. If you have monster meat, you can also feed the pigs if they all come after you. Plus, once you feed them enough monster meat, werepigs can also give a lot of pigskin and meat

pengal is actually really good for eggs when they set up camp they will spawn their eggs and if you approach when they are awake they will run and pick up their eggs. but when asleep they will leave the eggs out this is a very quick and easy way to get eggs which make the best healing item in the game.

Two things:
1. Don't base near water. Pengulls are a pain
2. You don't need to harvest/replant twigs and grass if you base near Dfly desert; however; be careful about tumbleweeds getting set on fire and then spreading that fire to your base
A little "behind the scenes" information, the pengull segment was planned before I even started filming so that is why this base is near the water!
It could be a little confusing to newer players :D

During the first couple of days of winter I make a point of summoning pengulls along the edges of the swamp with tentacles, forests with spiders, and savanna with too many beefalos. The loot drops are great, especially if you're a crap fighter like me.
Always smart to use the game against itself! It's a major aspect of survival!

The twigs aren't much of an issue come winter. You can always use twiggy trees which grow through out winter, and are easier to harvest than saplings. You can also plant a pinecone, and then immediately shovel them for twigs too.
You'll come to discover that I have a fiery hate for twiggy trees... hence why I will likely never talk about them unless I'm burning them to the ground!
I always thought that seasons like summer and winter were boring, because in the beginning and end you play regularly, but smack in the middle, all you do is sit around, eat food and fuel the fire to stop from overheating or freezing to death, like yeah, You COULD go kill deerclops or the dragonfly, but by the first winter no one could be THAT prepared yet.
Wow that is some epic early base prep :D I love the gobbler trap. If we follow your layout, did you plan space for flingomatics? As a note to less practised players, since that's who 'winter survival' is aimed at, I'd like to qualify that you don't actually need *all* that to survive, so don't be intimidated! - although obviously it does make it easier, and frees up time to do other things early on, helping to get ready for the bosses. (But giving them more to destroy if you are not good at handling bosses...) I really like your 'how to' guide for betraying (sorry, luring ;) a beefalo, but I love sneaking around them with a torch and a razor too, you get tons of hair in one night. Just for the love of Maxwell do NOT right click..! XD

I use willow at most of the times i play since she dosent need a torch and i can start collecting charcoal at night one and if i happen to find gold i have Crockpot at day 2 anyways nice guide it helped me since i am a new player the whole upper section was to say a way you can save more resources keep up the good work
Willow is a really good character for being the second to third one you unlock. (I say third depending on if you manage to get Webber's Skull) She is good for night travel, gathering charcoal, gaining easy sanity, and just having the advantage in any situation that involves fire. Based on how easy it is to unlock her, a lot of beginners I see using Willow. But nobody can ever deny the fact that Wickerbottom is the best character for getting sticks, grass, and any type of resource that is affected by her growing spell.
Wendy isn't a bad character either, because Abigail is good for farming things like butterfly wings, and morsels from moles. Not biased from Wendy being my favourite character, but I would say Wendy is a pretty character.
