Yep, it's an old trick we've been doing in the studio since the 1970's. ;) I would also add that, if you're actually playing the guitar along with a band or track that includes a bass guitar and kick drum, then you probably don't want to "preserve the bass" as you put it and add all that low end back in at the end of the chain. Listen closely to great rock mixes from the 70's to modern, and you'll find that in many cases, the guitars are actually quite thin, but the mix is setup so that the bass guitar and kick drum take over where the guitar falls off, providing a seamless "tight" bottom end and clarity between the low end instruments vs the low-mid-range of the guitar.

This is basically how the old MK-series Mesa amps should be setup. Cut low and some prescence before the gain stage (EQ is pre-gain on those) and brinc the low and bite back with the classic Mesa 5-band graphic EQ (smily face curve).

    • @MadSteex

Always my own IR from my cabs and microphone. Cause I know the specific sound of my cabinet and I've captured very well every details. I'm not able to find a great sound with other 3rd party IRs, I'm sincer.
When I can I prefer always to listen my playing through a real cabinet, different feeling. But to record, is faster and easier to use my own IRs. Instand great tones
