Man, this is fantastic! You are really smart, I'm going to try this myself but since I'm not a welder I will just keep the wood block square and use that to secure it to a wooded frame. I will have to figure out a way to make a hopper. Your machine is cool!

Nothing wrong with that. I often build things like that.
The only bad part of your whole video is when you were tig welding to that galvanized pipe..... I can still taste and smell the last time i did that :-) its really bad for your health to weld that stuff

As for your tool rest you should be able to remove the second half and use just the one segment. Love the build so far.

Nice video loads of helpful stuff. A you watch a ton of video content on any one topic you can get small bits of info from all over and fill in gaps in your own knowledge. At about 9mins in you mention a problem getting the tool rest into place. You should be able to lift the rest from the 'arm' the remove the middle section and drop the tool rest into the part that fixes to the lathe bed. That part is known as the banjo and it should be the same diameter hole as the tool rest post. The extension is most often used to allow the tool rest to reach round the edge of a large platter to turn right to the center If you are unlucky and your lathe uses two sizes then it might be easier to make a sleeve or reducer.

When drilling the brass plug, screw it into the conduit coupler, then chuck that in the lathe facing the other direction and drill the plug through from the backside. You can't clamp NPT into the lathe by the threads because not only can you damage the threads, but pipe threads are tapered so it won't be even close to being centered or securely clamped.

Great work, can't wait to see the progress on this project :)
For the lathe: Can't you just chock the whole barrel with the seperator on place into the lathe now to round it of? i mean it is not really important, just an other than the astetic aspect.

I see you have a lot of experience with building DIY filament extruders, I find them very interesting. However I know diameter consistency is very hard to achieve with these materials and therefore you print quality will go down. I have been thinking... wouldn't it be possible to measure the diameter of the filament at a fixed point and adjust the flow of the printer in real time while printing. It sure would be a challenge but more diy filament could be used. For example, use two wheels, one fixed wheel, one attached on a sliding potentiometer with a spring pushing it against the fixed wheel, an arduino could measure the power and adjust the speed of the filament feeder. Just came up with the idea, thought it might be useful for the development of these diy extruders. Keep up the good work, love what you are doing!

May I ask where you purchased your heater band? I'm having trouble finding one online. The conduit coupler is about 1 1/4" OD. The 3/4 black pipe is 1" OD. I'd like to use two heater bands if possible.
I also modified the nozzle by using a 3/4 x 1/2 bush to1/2 x 3/8 bush to 3/8 x 1/4 or 3/8 x 1/8 barbed hose adapters. It should eliminate having to drill any plugs. I wish I could post pics here because it look pretty badass.

:/ I think it's obvious he was asking what kind of filler material.
Also, in Spanish, "soldering", "welding" and "brazing" are all the same word ("soldar"). That could have been the source of him mixing up the terms.
But in the end it's probably all mild steel, just some is galvanized (and yes, breathing its fumes can cause dementia and other nice things), and some hot rolled.

    Jesus Christ is Life!
There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.
    ~Proverbs 14:12
Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand.
By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance : that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,
    ~1. Corinthians 15:1-4
Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours:
    ~2. Peter 1:1
    God bless you!
