I think this is amazing. As a 3d printing company this would be a great benefit to anyone doing printing or making. It's important we start to reduce the plastic waste. And now with the vast filament selection. And mainly useless trinkets printed that are thrown away. We can now focus on recycling all of this
This is cool, i work on large extrusion machines making vinyl window parts, its really amazing seeing this on a smaller scale, it kinda reminds me of our capstock extruders
You guys are doing such a great job here, I have shared this channel as much as I can and appealing to donate to the cause. Good luck with your efforts.
As an extruder manufacturer, I must say it's really nice, maybe i will show this to our designer and give them some inspiration and make a mini cute extruder😄
congratulations, that machine is awesome, here in Colombia i worked in a company where posts and boards are made from recycled plastic, the machines retain the same concept as yours. molding is done by extrusion and then cooling by immersion in water. greetings.
Hello, dear friend. This is Lindsay from JAIHO Min China. Are you interested in recycling machine? We can help you, dear. My whatsapp :+8618868089679 or send me email service doc@jaihogroup.com.cn
Very informative and entertaining video Dave, on the subject of modifying and hacking this machine's orientation is very similar to horazontal injection molding machines, if clamping force and an assembly for the mold holder/ part ejecter can be drafted this could turn into an automated or semi automatic injection molding machine instead of the labor intensive hand operated one.
if everybody decided tor recycle plastic like that instead of just throwing it out there wouldnt be any in the ocean people need to stop looking at plastic like its trash but rather like a materials that can be recycled indefinitely to make all sorts of stuff like tables car parts tools etc
Hello, I congratulate you on several aspects, one of them is the concern for the planet and awareness of human beings with our plastic waste. The other for its excellent teaching videos and from the repair and maintenance of machines for the manufacture of plastics.A big hello from Colombia ...
From your developments, i can build all-in-one machine. Shredder -> extruder -> printer. I threw plastic in to the case and after 32 hours the printer do anything that i was needed at home... great scott! :D i hope in 2019 you are already do it.
Hello ! I'm almost done building everything I just have a problem with wiring everything I'm very bad at this and tried to find at the forum but couldn't help would be very appreciated Thank you for this amazing idea !
Great video...definitely food for thought...good job well done...I would love to have a go at this...might need to develop some new skills along the way and find some work arounds but this looks doable...
In joy the video thanks for shearing. I have a welding tip grinding where you are going to weld will make the weld stick better. Look better. And you won't have as much build up. Less inclusion in welds. Anyway just my 2 cents.
Mister, your video and advices were great. I will build one. it is an excellent project for my students, they will visit his web page. Thanks a lot. Regards. From Ecuador Juan Carlos.
Yes, in USA, a 1/2" variable speed drill is good enough, eh ?- - just make a simple jig on the trigger using a lock nut and bolt, so you can turn the blot into the trigger to up the RPM's, lock the bolt in place with locknut so it does not vibrate off
Would not work. We need a slow speed motor is not really true. We need motor with high torque. How to get more torque? For examle, reduction gearing. Reduction gear is makes the motor slower and gives more torque. Its like your gear shifter vs gas pedal on your car. You don't shift back on uphill because you want to go slow, but because your car can't sustain the high speed under high load, just like your electric motor.
one thing i've noticed missing from the list of machines, and making recycled filament being mentioned, for a greater control on size, and compactness between extruder and spooling device, A water bath is handy. cools the filament so it locks in the size, it's less likely to stretch or deform after that.
Hey, I thought about building one of these machineries, because I like the Idea, but isn`t it almost impossible to clean this mechanism, because of the molten plastik everywhere ? May you publish a video, showing a cleaning-process please ? Thanks for Answers in advance
Excellent video! I've been struggling with something similar for some time. What would you estimate the maximum diameter of extruded material would be?
Even if I weren't as bad as I am with mechanics, I can't afford this amount of work and neither can pay for all the tools you used. But, I would like to have a machine like this at home. I'm trying to go zero waste but there's a lot of stuff at home made of plastic that I want to turn into something useful. How could I do it to have someone doing it for me? Who should I contact? By the way you are saving the planet and is so inspiring to have people like you on this planet
Amigo soy estudiante de universidad y me gusta mucho este proyecto pero los planos no estan en la pagina, ¿tendras un link donde pueda descargar toda la información, planos y diagramas para hacer la mía ??, gracias.
I think this is amazing.

This is a very clear and precise description of a basic plastic injection machine. Well done!
Larry Lund this is actually extrusion
I'm an Erema operator for a large plastic recycler , you are very entertaining and skillful

Thanks for getting her done and not trying to explain physics and gear ratio and all the other things in the universe great job!
This was a very good video. Who knew that an extrusion machine would be so easy to make? Nice job, Dave!
You guys are doing such a great job here, I have shared this channel as much as I can and appealing to donate to the cause. Good luck with your efforts.
The video is just excellent with easy to understand language for a common man to technically qualified. Thanks dear for the great presentation.
WOW! You are the very type of genius I need in my life to measure up to what my imagination wants to create with disgarded plastics!
As an extruder manufacturer, I must say it's really nice, maybe i will show this to our designer and give them some inspiration and make a mini cute extruder😄
You are very handy. And the wood drill idea is just amazing.
Incredible, using the stainless wood screw was genius!
congratulations, that machine is awesome, here in Colombia i worked in a company where posts and boards are made from recycled plastic, the machines retain the same concept as yours. molding is done by extrusion and then cooling by immersion in water. greetings.
A one-man factory... very impressive!
for people doing this...try to use a coupling, and you can use the same motor and gearbox for the shredder too.

Muchas gracias, tu forma de explicar es muy clara y me ayuda en la construcción de la extrusora. Gracias por compartir tus conocimentos
Lograste hacerlo ,eres técnico en torno algo así ?
Big thumbs up on this build 👍
I like your recycling centre. Our local council stopped public picking through stuff due to insurance risks.
A person could probably adapt a arduino to control the temp and feed rate! Great video!
a person just did
I am gonna do something big with this,
Thanks Dave.
You can really use it to make filament for the 3D printer? If yes, how many meters in one hour?
Thanks Dave. Can you use other types of heaters? You are so kind in making these videos, and with subtitles! From Argentina I reiterate my gratitude.
Hay.....its just fantastic...... contain is very clear and easy to understand....lots of information......nice videography as well
wood drill...damn, that's so good idea! I was thinking of some kind of huge threaded rod , but this is much better. Thanks for inspiration! ^^
Thank you. It's very interesting. I'm at Brazil and works with recyclin
Excelent video! Thanks a lot from Argentina

Really excellent video and design and the only criticism is please wear safety glasses to protect your eyes when machining.
Excellent job
Hello !
I'm almost done building everything
I just have a problem with wiring everything
I'm very bad at this and tried to find at the forum but couldn't
help would be very appreciated
Thank you for this amazing idea !
The temperature controller PID you're using should have a wiring diagram. That's pretty much all you need.

genius way to explain
Thanks for your help my friend
Why i can see any gas(steam) with the molten plastic. And is there any foul smell?
Mister, your video and advices were great. I will build one. it is an excellent project for my students, they will visit his web page. Thanks a lot. Regards. From Ecuador Juan Carlos.
Capo!! Simple, directo, potente. Al mentón. (Capo!! Simple, direct, powerful. To the chin)

Excelente explicación. Gracias por compartir la informacion
Ok sangat menginspirasi , tkss

Very interesting stuff, I would go for a counter-rotary extruder for ABS/carbon....I need to build one!! Thanks for the ideas!
Then, you can create your own ABS filament for a 3D printer.
Very good. Thanks.
