I worked for a few months at an afterschool English daycare type place in Japan and all of this is basically the same, except we would end up spending the first hour ant the part and the second hour actually try to do some worksheet or something haha. I'm a bit relieved to know that it is the same Q&A format. Thanks for the video!

+Philosoflix it's going good, thanks :) The fact that we do the same games over and over (eg. keyword game, missing game) made it easy to get into the swing of things. Now I'm just waiting for my kids to stop running away in a panic if I say anything in English other than hello/see you to them hahaha They're already getting used to me though :)

i wonder if they go over grammar at all for explanation. like, you can drill as many vocab words into a kid as you want "sunny" and "cold" are easy ones. if you dont explain what "and" is then they will never learn that kneesandtoes is not a body part. ppl need to give children more credit to understanding grammar ya know? like "英語で、「と」は「and」です。" most kids would get something basic like that, and then even if its harder and they dont get the explanation the first time then drilling that every time would help too. vocab and grammar are both necessary to understand a language. i assume you do that too though! just sharing my thoughts about teaching
You mentioned some students would be able to read the question on the board and some wouldn't unless they were older. Do you repeat the same lesson plan multiple times a day for each class that comes in? Or does the lesson change depending on the class grade? For example if you did this exact lesson for the day, would you do it pretty much exactly the same way 6-7 times during the day regardless of if the current class is 1st grader or 6th grade? Volaju16 hey, great question. To clarify, each grade level(1st to 6th grade) will.have their own different lesson each week, seperate from the other grades. Also even if you teach at more than one school, all 4th graders will learn that weeks lesson for 4th grade and etc. example: this week all 4th graders in all the schools learn "i like apples" 5th graders across all schools are doing "do you play soccer?" and so on. (HOWEVER) teaching the same lesson isnt a problem I do it all the time. When you get a lesson plan I guarantee you will find a lesson that makes no sense to teach. I make up lessons or teach a lesson from a different grade. no problem. just make your games fun and make sure kids have fun. lol
Also some kids went to international kindergartens or take supplemental classes after school so they'll be able to read more so than those who can't. Currently an English teacher so an international kindergarten in kansai.

Vivian Lam usually the impromtu lesson will be a short demo of how you would introduce the new words. They will most likely look for energy, clarity and loudness in your voice, how well and simple you introduce new words and sentences, as well as maybe what kinda game you would use but most likely not

A MG budget issues. Schools have like no funding for anythinggg its why you see such old equipment. An ALT is usually shared to many schools for that reason. Some ALTs can be sent to over 10 schools
I personally prefer chalk over whiteboard. The dark green background with bright script is far less irritating to look at after a long day than the shiny bright background with the dark script. Also, whiteboard markers kind of stink.

I too wanted to be an ALT teacher in Japan because I wanted to live there. LOL. I've been there twice as a tourist, and I just love everything there. I will be coming back this Autumn of 2017 for another vacation. What I really wanted to know is, if it was indeed true that the pre-requisite for ALT teachers for hire in Japan is that English should be the native language. I am an Asian, English is my second language, but I can speak fluently. If my case is possible, then I would really want to shift careers. Hahaha. Best of luck to you all the time. Have a great day!
Carlvin Ganados The requirements are to be a native level speaker, though you dont need to necessarily be a native. Also, an ALT is usually a stepoing stone position thqt helps you get further and onto better jobs. However the wage is really low, and not consistent, except with the Altia company. Hope this helped

Hey Ellie thanks for commenting! The stuff here was made at school before I started working but is easily something you can make at school. Generally you should be allowed to laninate and print using school resources.

also what I do is are clear files. I can just print an image and then replace old images in the file. haha costly and effective long term
