I grew up in an academic environment where we were constantly assigned to work in groups. And then when I got to college, it was all work on things alone. I totally favor working in groups. You just learn so much faster and also learning is more fun that way.

As a former TEFL teacher I found Japanese kids are very respectful and sometimes painfully shy. It takes a lot to get them to relax and they worry about speaking because they fear making mistakes. You have to get through to them that language is primarily about communication, taking risks is ok and you learn from your mistakes. Once they warm to you they are lovely though.

I don’t think I’d be able to handle an English class in another country. I always imagine moving to a place like France or Japan, and having to take an English class when I’m already fluent. I take a French class now and the teacher speaks in French 100% of the time and most of the time I’m just like “What did she just say?” I can’t imagine sitting in an English class where people don’t know what he’s saying. Do they think of English class like I think of French?
And I hear that English is the hardest language to learn because we have so many rules and basically every rule has 1 or 2 exceptions. We don’t learn English completely until about 8th Grade. By then you don’t need to know the rules really because you know a ton of words.

English is definitely NOT the hardest language. It’s one of the easiest languages to learn btw. I was born in Japan and I had been living there for 11 years (now I’m 18) and later I moved to Slovakia because my mom is from there. And now I speak japanese, slovak, czech, hungarian, english, spanish and a bit germany. Trust me... slovak or hungarian is a LOT harder to learn because we have a lot of declension and 1000 rules and 100 exeptions, grammar is very hard to learn for people who doesn’t speak slavic languages like slovak, polish, croatian, russian or serbian. So I just want to inform you that the english is not the hardest language so far. Have a Nice day.

ummmmm, actually.... for that last example, well, i cant exactly talk about japanese entrance exams, but i do thinks that the student a will do better. because, in practice, of course, student b will benefit more from it in terms of life experience, but really, if were just talking about grades, student a will get a better grade.... at least, in my school, if you write an essay and have the right structure and arguments and make no mistakes (vocab, grammar), then you actually do get 90+%, but if you take risks, even if the sentence structure and words are more complicated, if you make a mistake, you can get a grade thats a lot lower... trying things is nice, but NOT in exams... you probably just want to keep it safe for those kind of things :(
