For the first switch you have video proof you got scammed by the seller. Probably best to open a dispute with eBay and get your money back. Great video as always!

You can't open a dispute as he's worked on it

I hope you don’t let the seller get away with selling items missing internal components. If they haven’t opened it then they should accept it back as miss described; if they have opened it then they should include photos of the insides so you can assess the situation. Outside of this there could reasonably be someone listing as ‘barn-find’ or ‘scrap bundle’ which could give an appropriate level of caution. Maybe a job for Mr Rossmann and the R2R crew to classify and give to eBay to police, perhaps. Keep up the great work 😀👍

It seems like first switch had an issue on the VSYS, which is shared across the all max chips and DC buck 5V (which you pulled off) one of the worst kind of fault as you have to keep pulling IC until you found the faulty one. If this switch was worked on previously and someone was trying to repair chances are that max77620A was pulled and maybe put back and is improperly soldered. As once you press power 77620A send a high signal to initialise bq24 m92 and rest of PMIC. its just a guess and this kind of faults are not worth spending too much time but it usually makes a great video for people to watch.

Honestly i think that first switch shouldn't count.
It feels like a blatant scam to sell a Switch online as defective when it already has some parts removed and been repaired on.
That's should've been sold "for parts" instead.

I think they have dropped parts boards inside both of the switches. I would go around and look for more missing components. If not the only other thing I would suggest is to power it up and check all of the voltage rails

Man... How i hate this kind of consoles opened previously by unknown "technicians". High risk to be in bad conditions or unreparable.
Lets continue the video, i hope you can save atleast one!
Edit: Oh shiet, maybe next time Joey, dont worry, still the profit on positive!

I guess this lot could be returned back to the seller as "not as described" given that they had missing internal parts?

This sort of shenanigans is what has caused me to just focus on controllers, when I take a hit on someone’s junk controllers it’s so much less than the hit from someone’s console scrap. Profits are way higher for me just focusing on accessories over actual consoles anymore.

You need some working board when comparing measurements. How you know whats wrong with donor board ;)

  • @TheSkaldenmettrunk

Really strange with those two switches. At the first one the seller clearly knew what he sold. The second one wasn't opened, so I doubt it.. if this wasn't the same seller. If it was the same he knew for sure. A bit farther away from the £1'000 profit, but we get there I'm sure of it.

If they really are that overly sensitive and fragile to non original chargers then that means Nintendo engineers are either incompetent or malicious. Hopefully the next Switch will not be so fragile.

@@ram89572 Agreed, USB-C standard exists for a reason (and EU forces it for some devices...). If the device self-destructs because *a charger is actually capable of what the specs allow* (or attepmts to draw more than the specs allow and self-destructs), I think at least in the EU this should be considered a faulty device and you should be able to get a replacement/money back by law

I just got my first soldering kit off Temu for $10 😅. Came with 32 tools and accessories too. Hoping to learn and be as good as you sometime. I build custom gaming PCs for a living and refurbish consoles, but have never learned to solder.

Sad that you couldn't fix these :/
Here are something you can try to do, if you haven't already:
Replace P13 chip, and/or check the lines to the NAND with diode mode. Maybe bad/burnt trace or something

Some of the caps don't go to ground and are part of a charge pump on the first switch it was most likely a lost cause but could of tested across them instead of to ground. You may of done that off camera
