A useful tip I use almost daily: You can two finger swipe down on emails (i.e. Junk) and tap each circle at the left or if selecting multiple, just slide a finger down the line of circles. VERY useful if you plan to add a bunch of junk emails to Blocked. Then you can Press and Hold on any of the selected emails, they will jiggle slightly then merge into a pile. Then select Block. Repeat press and Hold to Delete. Personally if I know they are spam/junk, I choose Delete and Report. I don't know if it actually helps, but can't hurt to try I suppose. This is also useful if you just want to move a huge pile of specific emails to a folder or do the same task to multiple emails at once.
I used Spark Mail for years, mainly because it was easy, and worked on android as well. When I switched back to iPhone, I kept it for a while, but the new pricing makes it unreasonable, so I looked for an alternative. The updates to the stock mail app has gotten really good compared to what I remember. The biggest reason why I chose to use the default mail app, is that it’s support of focus modes. I can have my work focus only show my work email accounts, and personal, etc.
Great video as always. Couple of other things I find handy, when composing an email you can swipe down and it sits at the bottom of the mail app, then you can read through emails to find content without having to save the email you are composing to drafts. Also when using the read / unread filter on a mailbox, you can click in the middle of the bottom bar and select further filter options.
Thanks for the video, very helpful, as always. However, there is this one thing I never found out, and I am guessing a lot of users experience the same issue: When composing an email on iPhone, I sometimes copy/paste some text portions from other sources. Oftentimes, after inserting such a text portion, it differs from the rest of the text in style or size. Even though Im using Apple Mail for decades now, I never found a solution to this behavior. Do you have an idea how to format or adjust all text to be of similar size and type in such a case?
I use the Mail app on my iPhone but not exclusively. I have two accounts, an iCloud and a Gmail (for work). I have an inbox zero system on Gmail that is not fully reproductible on the Mail app because of missing feature (multiple inboxes, labels, filters) so i keep the Gmail app on my phone also. If it could get the same features, i'd be more than happy to use exclusively the Mail app. It's simple, clean and intuitive.
I use Gmail app but I’m very frustrated with the fact that when you move to a folder it still stays in all mail or is it when you move it to a folder then delete from inbox it disappears from the folder you just put it in. So maybe I’ll move back to the iPhone app instead of gmail app. Maybe it’s more user friendly . I originally switched because Gmail was more visually appealing. More colorful if that makes sense. Can you do a video on organizing emails and achieving?
Your videos are so useful! I think this is the third or fourth I’ve watched this evening, and I have gained so many tips. Many thanks from a new iOS user!
I have Outlook and the Mail App on my iPhone and iPad. For reasons I’m not entirely sure of I default to Outlook 99% of the time, and although I love the Apple “ecosystem” I never use Pages or Keynote or Numbers, preferring the Office 365 equivalent apps. What am I missing, please?🤔
Why can't I select a group to mail? I can only seem to add people one at a time. Like, I want to append a bunch of people with some kind of designation that puts them in the same group. So if I've put "ABC" group in each of their contacts, I want to be able to just write ABC in the to: field. I did it once and now I can't figure it out again!
Thanks great video and useful despite using Mail for many year. One aspect of this video I would like is Archiving emails in senders boxes, is this possible? I noticed in VIP they are still random and not grouped. Thanks agin much appreciated.
Great, informative video as usual! I've used iPhone since 3GS, & I still learn from your vids. I used to shy away from the native apps, but I'm finding staying within the native apps can simplify life. Apple is slowly, but surely, bringing their native apps in line with Gmail & other services. My biggest complain with this app is, if I need an email sent to me through Gmail very quickly, I have to use Gmail app to retrieve it. Delivery via the native app is definitely slower than using the Gmail app itself.
I used the Gmail app previously and also tried the Spark app; but for last few months have stuck with the stock mail app. I use mail for basic purposes and i think the stock mail is enough for that with minimalistic design and enough customisation. Great video as always :)
I'm also a gmail fan and tried Spark. I do like Mail, but recently I bought the Airmail app for its snoozing and gmail-like functionality. It's working well, though something about the familiarity of the Mail App is still appealing.
I really tried to use the native mail apps. But there are to many inconvenience’s. Mails you set as „remind me“ staying in the inbox, you can’t use templates for repeating mails, notifications on iOS are like wheel of fortune - sometimes you receive them, sometimes not. The sync between macOS and iOS is horrible (mails I put 3 hours ago into trash on my Mac , are shown as unread in my iPhones inbox), send later only works if the device is online etc…. I exclusively use Apple devices because they are great, but the software they give us is not always up to date
I see you have a lot of compliments on your programs / video's, but one point that is not raised, is your deliverance, you are either a born natural speaker or practice a lot. Regardless your speech, dialogue, with attention to detail is awesome
Thanks! I’ve always struggled with Apple mail not knowing the concept ‘draft’. Which means I’ve been composing e-mails in the Notes app for as long as I can remember. Didn’t know it was this simple.
I've found that things with Apple apps tend to be simpler than we give them credit for. LOL - we were usually taught a harder way and we do that because it's the way we learned first!
Do you know what I can do if you do mark as read still has plenty to read didn't read all yet I ask people already they just told me just keep doing mark as read thanks
Once again a really clear tutorial. I use the mail app but didn’t know it could do all this. I am getting more and more from my iPhone after following you. Thank you. 😊
Been using the Mail app on my iOS devices as main email app since around 2010. Never had major issues, excepting some cases when i get kicked out of my accounts randomly, but it’s rare. I have 6 or 7 accounts I constantly use and they are all on the Mail app 🙏🏻
When you swiped left, one of the options you have is "delete." This option is not available to me and when looking it up on forums, there doesn't seem to be a way to have "delete" be an option. My phone is fully up-to-date and the lack of a top-level delete button has long been a frustration for me.
@@TonyTapay this was confusing me too. You need to go to settings, Apps, Mail, Mail Accounts. Then for each account select it and go to account settings and advanced. Then "move discarded messages to" and pick Deleted Mailbox.
Enjoyed the video. I usually use GMail for my go to email (composing/rcvng) but the additional items I learned today...maybe I will start using the stock email system. Thanks again ~ I enjoy the videos.
Thank you for all your excellent videos that I follow with great interest and pleasure! Please do keep up your great work! One thing regarding the iOS (and iPadOS) Mail app that I really miss: a possibility to have an All Junk folder, just like we have the All Inboxes, All Sent and All Trash. That is really something useful for us using more accounts at the same time. Or a possibility to define a Smart Folder. Strangely enough, MacOS version of the Mail app has it, but not the mobile OSs.
At 14:28 we can move an email to a folder. How do we create a folder? If we accidentally place an email in the wrong folder, how do we retrieve that email and relocate it? how do we delete individual emails from a folder? How do we delete a folder if it becomes obsolete?
Another great video. Thanks and congratz! I would love to use more the mail app on iOS but there’s one thing which I really don’t like: when I move a message to a folder or simply archive it, it goes to the next email instead of going to the inbox, like most of the other email apps do, like GMail or Spark.
Help! How do you move FOLDERS. I’ve tried naming them something beginning with A but some of my most impressed folders are down on the bottom of the list. 14:54
Any tips on handling how the app labels messages as Spam? I can't find any way of teaching the app that messages are or are not spam, or how to change their status. Thanks
Best video tutorial I’ve seen on iPhone mail app. Thanks for all of these great videos! Love the channel. I have been using the gmail app, but I get frustrated with it on little things like specific signatures for each account. I’m giving the iPhone mail app another try.
Not a complete tutorial. How do I add a folder? The vip option was useful but the delete email option when I swipe isn’t on there. I have press the move button to send it to the trash. I have the newest iOS version too.
In iMessage after someone reads my message it tells me the message was read; is there a setting in Apple Mail so I can see when the recipient reads my email?
Excellent in-depth look at the Mail app. I really like it. The one thing that keeps me from using it is the fact that I cannot return to the inbox after deleting a message. It keeps wanting to go to the next message.
I have an enormous amount of unread emails for various reasons. How can I quickly delete those that I know are out of date and unimportant at this time?
My husband gets numerous unsolicited emails from places trying to sell him something. I go through and unsubscribe as many as I can but more keep coming. Any way to stop these emails? Thank you, new subscriber.
If they have a valid email address it’s hard to stop, but you could block them as mentioned in the video when you get one and in the Mail settings set it so blocked mails go straight to the bin so you can delete them later and they don’t clutter the inbox. Also if subscribing to anything consider using the iCloud+ Hide my email feature so they never know your real address and if you want to stop receiving message or you suspect it’s being passed on to other companies, you just close the address Apple creates.
Great video. Here’s another tip… If you accidentally mishandle an email, you can do a 3-finger tap and hold(for about a sec) above the search bar, and an UNDO box will appear at the top of the screen. **Note*** You can also do the 3-finger tap anywhere in the inbox but it can be tricky because it’s common to accidentally open or select an email if you don’t tap all 3 fingers simultaneously. To avoid this from happening, after 3-tapping and holding for a quick second, short swipe down (or up) to deselect any highlighted email and lift up.
Thank you - another great video. A couple of quick thoughts: 1) I have the option to add the Drafts mailbox to the Folders in the “sidebar”. Did I misunderstand? I thought you said it was not there? 2) There is just one thing that keeps me with Spark for my email. It’s the ability to snooze an email so that it is hidden until I can deal with it. Mail’s “remind me” unfortunately leaves the email cluttering up my Inbox..
Is there any option to view "unread first" like gmail does in web version? Spark for iOS do this. I don't want a filter that shows ONLY unread. Instead of this, all mailboxes, but unread mails first.
My Mail app shows all my accounts (6) and yes, it lets me hold down and shuffle the sequence of accounts up or down so I can put my primary email account on top, but it will not let me move that same account to the top below where the collapsed individual folders are. Why?
I just discovered your channel and it’s great!!! I was looking to learn how to use the Mail app on my iPhone better. Your video was very informative and detailed and I appreciate that. I’m curious if you have one or could make one describing how to mass delete emails. Or delete all emails from a specific address. Thanks
When the Mail app allows us to send photos as attachments rather than embedded in the body of the email I will use it again. So for now I’ll just use Gmail or Outlook
Hello first of all thanks for video. But I wanna ask everyone, gmail doesn't download incoming attachments but I guess Apple mail does. Because I tried every settings but apple mail does download incoming attachments who send me.
I can’t disentangle my Exchange account (I no longer need it), from the Apple mail app. When I delete the Exchange account, all of my contacts in my phone get deleted and I have to restore my phone from a backup, AND add the Exchange account back in.
Thank you for the video. I found some very useful information. I am in the process of moving over my android information to an iPhone and have 21,000 unread emails. I was watching your video in hopes of some tricks on deleting emails quickly help! Thanks again for all the tips you did provide.
I want to change the duration of emails in my trash/ deleted folder before they are permanently deleted. I have tried to do this on my Mac also but couldn’t find any settings for that. Thanks.
Thanks for such an informative video, as always. I’ve really learned a lot about the mail app I had no idea it did. Your videos are always clear and easy to understand and I learn a lot from them. Keep up the amazing work!
10:38 I see the All Drafts and All Sent filter boxes on my phone, and I use them very often. May be you just didn’t scroll down on the edit page. Also, using Add Mailbox… on this page, you can add a specific folder, including Drafts, from any of your mail accounts.
At 11:54 there are options for different sized images, but is this the physical dimension of the image on the page, or a reduction in focus due to less pixels? How do we know what our recipient will receive in terms of image? Hoe does receiving the image on a large tablet or iPad compare with a small phone screen? Why does the sender limit the size? Why doesn't the recipient have the option to decide what format they choose to store it at? HOW CAN WE SEND LARGE HIGH QUALITY PHOTO ALBUMS OR VIDEOS? I don't understand how to make a folder to send a lot of pages or photos. I often find Apple is replaced by DropBox. For example, my scanner will scan to DropBox but not to My Photos.
I was hoping you would address how to delete large quantities of emails at once. When I do a search for a title or sender, I only get the option to delete two pages of about 10-12 emails. I want to delete the hundreds of advertising emails that I m not going to read. I’d love to do that from my phone and not open my computer.
A frustration with the app is that you can’t sort group Mail. For example by sender. If I have a load of email from a newsletter that is clogging it up I just want to see the senders in my mail up and to be able to collapse and expand all email from them.
This video was very well done and understood. Thank You! Have you done a tutorial video like this on how to rename your Mailboxes. I now have 5 different emails connected to my "Mail" app and I want to Name each one so I can easily and quickly identify them.
Hello i want to know can we select multiple files when attaching documents ??? Unlike photos multiple documents can not be selected and attached at once…u ve select individual document multiple times
Hi, very good video and description, could you please make a video on mail deletion, will it delete mails from other linked email as well. Sometimes we delete email from one account which is linked with others and does it delete from other mail apps too. Please explain.
Great info! Is there a way to use the native app with an email list? There are times I'm on the road and would like to share a flyer with about 60+ people and haven't figured out how without firing up my laptop and Outlook.
Can also delete emails by holding and swiping left until the message leaves the screen I am learning loads from your emails (one of the dinosaurs who didn’t grow up with IT but am fascinated with how it does what it dies and evolves) - so thank you
Good tutorial. One issue that you could have covered is the problem on how to add the "sent" folder or "all sent" folder option as this does not automatically show up in the mail app.
I had a mail with large attachment stuck in the outbox for days. Every time it was deleted it came back after a short while and the message at the bottom kept showing another unsent message. Overnight it climbed to 12 unsent messages and was using up the bandwidth above all other devices. I had to contact Apple via chat which worked well but the solution was to sign out of that mailbox and remove it from the phone. Seeing as it was the iCloud account I was concerned that I would lose all sorts of data. The chat agent had to consult others to remedy the situation as he was unfamiliar with the problem. Fortunately re-adding the mailbox worked ok but not a great experience with Mail on iPhone☹
@@ProperHonestTech I wasn’t thinking about a business purpose, more like a monthly newsletter, a family list, etc. Not something with tons of contacts but something you put out regularly and don’t want to have to type in the same names every time. Much quicker to have a built in list! Thx!
I keep thinking that there is no need to download and pay sub for third party software …..thank you for hard work, in comparison to other tech bloggers who act like parasites when showing 15 different apps “they use”. You at least show stock apps. A similar video on Mac Mail would also be great. 😊
Great video. Thanks! I have noticed with my last 2 iOS updates that the mail app ni longer predicts the folder to move an email to. I now have to select the folder which I didn't need to for years. Any idea why this has happened?
Well done. Sending mail from the iPhone should be simple and when a user takes advantage of the features it becomes so simple. The scheduled send feature is so valuable. About time Apple added this option to mail. Do you know how to add an iCloud email or multiple iCloud emails?

I’m curious if you have one or could make one describing how to mass delete emails. Or delete all emails from a specific address. Thanks
Great content. I hv learned a lot from your channel. Keep it up!
Thanks! Will do!
Good morning, and thank you for the video. I learned a bunch of stuff that I did not know so you got a new subscriber
Thank you! I learned some useful editing tips from this!
Thanks.
All very interesting, well done.
One concern I have is I dont know how to insert a logo in my signature. Is it possible with Mail?
I use Apple mail on my 2 of my iPhone’s and on my iPad . Would be great if you talked about managing mail across Apple products.
Why isn’t there also a bell icon showing in mail on MacOS but only in IOS. THANKS.
What happens to mail I send to “archive” ?
Great info! Is there a way to use the native app with an email list? There are times I'm on the road and would like to share a flyer with about 60+ people and haven't figured out how without firing up my laptop and Outlook.
Can also delete emails by holding and swiping left until the message leaves the screen
I am learning loads from your emails (one of the dinosaurs who didn’t grow up with IT but am fascinated with how it does what it dies and evolves) - so thank you
Thank you
I have one issue
when I press cc email not sent ??
It would have been nice, since this is for newbies, if you had shown how to set up and use mailing lists. But it’s still an excellent tutorial! Thx!
As in a mailing list for marketing purposes?
@@ProperHonestTech I wasn’t thinking about a business purpose, more like a monthly newsletter, a family list, etc. Not something with tons of contacts but something you put out regularly and don’t want to have to type in the same names every time. Much quicker to have a built in list! Thx!
Plus Mail & Reminders App is the perfect 👍 combo 🤙❤️
I keep thinking that there is no need to download and pay sub for third party software …..thank you for hard work, in comparison to other tech bloggers who act like parasites when showing 15 different apps “they use”. You at least show stock apps. A similar video on Mac Mail would also be great. 😊
Great video. I haven't been using any of the text formatting or easy scanning parts on my phone at all. Thanks for making it so simple!
Using shortwave (free version) . Mainly because of the better over all UI & minimalistic approach.
