Your the man, honestly your articulate and informative. Thank you. I’m in the process in acquiring a boat in the next week and I’ve watch a bunch of your videos… awesome information. I’m currently working with some houseboat builders dock builders and marinas ..I’m looking to become an aquakiyosaki
Pumped to hear you are finding our videos helpful and informative! Let us know how it goes acquiring your boat - what kind are you looking to get? Looking forward to hearing more about it. This time of year is a good time to find one. We got ours two years ago in August.
Great tool! The housing market where I live is out of control. I bought a 1900 sqft home 3 bedroom 2 1/2 bathroom in a very popular neighborhood. I bought it in 2015 for $280K it's worth $425K in 2021. I only have a lake view lol. Crazy how much it has ballooned the value! My fear, correct me if I am wrong: Houseboats depreciate not increase in value? I thought I would be saving a ton of money buying a Houseboat. Selling my home I would have $180K plus money I can put down. Love living on the water but even if I take away the payment of owning a houseboat. Docking fees are almost double here $1,200+/month easy. I think this price is way too high. But your tool gives a great realistic approach to owning a houseboat. Maybe when I retire and freely able to move to other places easy I can live that dream.
Thank you, appreciate you watching the video and asking questions! We are always happy to help where we can. And glad you found the tool helpful. And wow, congrats on the appreciation on your house! That is just stellar. What part of the country do you live in, assuming USA? When it comes to houseboats and value, some houseboats are actually appreciating in value. If the boat is well maintained, it should at least hold its value when you sell it. This is because demand far outstrips the supply of houseboats, especially those with engines. Ever since the housing crisis in 2008, houseboat manufacturers were nearly wiped out and only a few totally new houseboats with engines are now made each year. So the used houseboat market is pretty hot. On our lake this year, demand was so high that the main broker on our lake was asking people if they wanted to sell their houseboats because inventory was limited. When it comes to slip prices, this is where the cost can really get ya and location matters. The $1200 per month is definitely more than we pay here, and there are other marinas on our lake that are less expensive than our marina. If you can find a houseboat lake that you like where slip prices are less, you can make the slip cost less of an issue. Let us know if we didn’t quite answer your questions. We appreciate the conversation, and congrats again on your home value!
Same here! We don’t have to worry about winterizing our houseboat where we are in Georgia because it doesn’t get cold enough for long enough to freeze any of the engine components. As an extra precaution, we have an engine compartment heater that kicks in when temperatures get near freezing to make sure nothing serious happens. When it comes to winterization costs, we probably aren’t the best people to ask about that. Though, if we come across more information in our research, we will absolutely be sure to share it! And let us know if you find any information, too.
So glad you liked the video, Stacie! Haha no worries, here is the link to the spreadsheet. Just save a copy after you click on the link, then you will be able to edit the copy for your own purposes. Let us know if you have questions
