The peninsula is looking fantastic! The track work is very nice. Thanks for showing the construction of the benchwork and wiring. Thanks for the update and tour of your layout. I am sure you are looking forward to the move, but enjoy your current layout for now. -Tom
Thanks Tom. I would say the new peninsula section is built to a better standard than the rest of the layout and I will keep it going on the next layout. The good thing is a lot of items can be reused from the old layout. I probably won’t start taking it down until March. This will give me more time to enjoy some operations on it before it is taken apart. Tim
Great layout you got there. I’m an N scale model railroader. I’m in the early stages of my N scale Pacific West Coast railroad. My layout will focus from 1974 to the end of the 20th. Century stretching from the U.S.-Mexican border just South of San Diego & eventually reaching Vancouver,BC Canada. I already scratch built 4 water towers from empty Progresso soup cans, wooden dowels that are 1/2 inch diameter, drink umbrellas for the water tower roof & balsa wood for the ladders. The pipes & water spouts are from bendable drinking straws. I also scratch built an oil tank for my steam locomotive number 4449-The Daylight locomotive which pulls my excursion train. I’m in the beginning stage of making a diesel locomotive service facility scratch built. I scratch built a sanding tower using a carpet fresh container which can make a great grain silo, an O scale tank car, even a water tower.
Thanks! Hope your N Scale layout is coming along. Sounds like you have big plans. Hope you’ve had a chance to check out the latest videos of the Seaboard Central to see the new layout progressing.
Always enjoy your videos, your layout is absolutely beautiful. It will be fun to see that peninsula come together, and I look forward to seeing the next version of the layout as well. thanks for the tour and stay well!
Thanks John! Yes the peninsula section will be a great starting point for the next version of the SC. I’ll continue to work on it while the old layout gets dismantled and recycled into the next version. After the peninsula section my plan is to connect it to a large sceniked staging yard that will include my engine terminal. Tim
Nice update Tim, that peninsula will open up more switching!!! Thanks for sharing the building of this layout with us, the "Big One" will be a great one as well especially with a bigger yard!!!
Thanks for the tour. Nice to see an overview like this. Agreed that birch plywood is fantastic to work with. All my benchwork was built with it. Cheers. -grant
I just subscribed. You have captured rural GA my friend. To the point I almost saw some of the original Walking Dead areas. What a beautiful layout with your knowledge and techniques. Your presentation was excellent as well.
Some great progress was made this year Tim. Sad yet exciting to hear you will be dismantling this layout but that means a new build is on the horizon. I will be going through the same situations within the next few months. Inspiration work as always and look forward to what you have planned for next year. All the best, John
Thanks John! This layout has been fun to operate and was an improvement over my previous layouts I’ve had through the years but my skill level has improved since I started this one and I have a good plan for the next one. I am really excited about what is in store for the SC. Good luck on your move as well John and thanks for commenting. Tim
Tim, always exciting to see a new video from you. Your streets are some of the best I have seen, the colors, texture and cracks really pull it all together. So many details you have really make it all work well but the roads are one place that a lot of people struggle with and you do it very well. Love your track and ballasting too, very sharp. Those backdrops always make me smile, just perfect and well blended. The MOW track is really fine work, looks well used and worn. Thanks for sharing. Cheers Rob
Love your layout. Its exciting to hear plans for a new layout in the future. The weathering on your new track in the peninsula really looks nice, the old grey ties really stand out.
Thanks Mike! Glad you enjoyed the video. I’ve learned a lot from great modelers such as yourself since I started this layout back in 2013. The next version should be a lot better and I am pretty excited to see what the future holds for the SC.
Thanks for the tour of the layout Tim. As always great job & thanks for all the work & time that you put into making the videos that you do to share the Seaboard Central with all of us. I always look forward to seeing what you've been up to. Merry Christmas to you & your family!
That is spectacular Timmy!!! 👍 Boy I sure love to hear the sound of them horses comn out of them 3 locos, that was jus AWESOME, AWESOME!!!!!👍! AND that OLD CABOOSE WOW. LOVE YOUR BACK GROUND WALL PAPER, FOR SOME REASON MY 👁️👁️ WERE HAVN AN EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TIME FOCUSING NOT REALIZING THEIR ON PAPER WITH AN IMPRINTED PHOTO/(PICTURE) (S) ON IT,😱😵 THAT WAS JUS SUREAL, NICE, KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK SIR, MORE PLEASE, THANKS FOR SHARING THIS WITH ME 💯✌️👍 MERRY CHRISTMAS, TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY AND HAVE A SAFE HAPPY NEW YEAR.💥🌟🌠✌️
I really like your layout tours.. I look at the beautiful work you've done and hear you say...tearing it up in 2021.. owwwwww!!! but, seeing what you've done I have to believe that what you have in mind will be an improvement based on your experience now with this one. Looking forward to what you have in store after the turn of the year. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks! Yes there’s a lot of improvements that will be made to the next one. The new layout will start out with the current peninsula section I am working on now and will expand from there. Tim
I absolutely love your layout Tim. My favorite part funny enough is the small rural town of Griffin , what a cool area on your layout. Thank you for sharing this video with us, awesome layout! Dave B.
This is absolutely one of the most incredible layouts I have ever seen. Beautiful work! New to channel, just subbed, looking forward to watching all the older vids and new ones to come. Thanks for the enjoyment!
Thanks! I am actually preserving the old lift out section. It will be a lot higher and probably mostly used as a duck under but still be able to be removed if needed. If you go way back to some of my early videos I think I show how I built this one. I’ll be sure to make a new video on it when I get it back in place. Tim
Thanks! The new layout is underway and I’ve been releasing videos every Sunday. I hope to get a lot finished to show for my next layout tour video coming up this November.
Nice job w/your current layout. Hope to see the industrial area you referred to. Appreciate your attention to realistic detail and "less is more". Look forward to learning about your new project in 2021 and wish you Good Luck.
Hi there. Just found you by chance. I watch a lot of Jaw Tooth videos, so it is nice to see an American model railroad. Very impressive. Like your commentary too. Makes quite a change to a Brit who models the GWR. Catch you again!
thank you for your detail video on your detail layout as go sad lost and wish the best further detail plan of new detail layout have to plan ahead wish merry Christmas and safe new year in 2021
Thanks Deryk! You are on your way. It’s good to see you working on it again. One quick and easy thing you can do to transform it is to paint the track and your wheels on the rolling stock. You will see just how much difference it makes doing just those two things. Tim
Thanks Mark! Yes I have big plans for the new layout and hope to have a lot of interesting scenes which will include more scenery which is a part of the hobby I love to do. Tim
Thanks! I hope to have a new update before the end of the month. Stay tuned and be sure to hit the notification bell. The next one may go up before Christmas.
Thanks! Be sure to check out my latest videos for the new Seaboard Central taking shape. I plan to have a new layout tour video coming out this November and I’m showing the progress and how I am building the new layout all along the way. Tim
Hey Tim great post. I've been hoping you'd do an update like this. Are you going to be able to use a lot of this layout on the new and how big will it be? Thanks so much for taking the effort to share with your humble followers.
Thanks John! Yes, I plan to recycle a lot of the original layout. My hope is our new house has a large enough room in the basement to at least double the size of the current layout. It will still have the town of Griffin and I hope to be able to add a couple more towns plus a large double ended staging yard that will include the engine terminal.
Thanks! I hope it will be seamless. I’ll still be working on the peninsula sections and adding to them while I am recycling the parts of the original layout. I think a lot of the new layout will go faster since I can use a lot of stuff from the old one. Tim
Lovin the layout but the down town perspective of the street absolutely brilliant. I’m new to model n scale especially the USA rail road I’m from the uk . I’ve got a lot to learn and I’ve been looking at your quality content so I’m going to subscribe to channel 👍
Thanks! I hope to have a lot of good stuff to show for the 2022 Layout Tour. Be sure to check out my latest videos. I’ve been releasing a new video every Sunday showing how I’m building the new layout.
This layout is inspiring me to make a freelanced version of the prototype Providence and Worcester line. I intend to model it as if genesee and Wyoming never purchased the P&W. I wanted to model something in my area being from Rhode Island
Great video Tim. You absolutely always inspire me. Have you tested different heights for the new layout ? Before I moved to North Carolina I was getting out of the military in another state and had built 3 or 4 two FOOT by six foot modules which somene actually bought all of them but they were all at a height of about 5ft which some would say is too high but I loved it for a variety of reasons. The biggest being you didn't have to bend down too much to be at track height for viewing or filming or photographing. But the other benefit was getting under the layout for wiring or modifying something. Anyway, just food for thought. Have a very Merry Christmas !! 🌲🌲🌲🛤😷
Thanks Paul! I originally designed this version to be a double deck layout and the current layout was going to be the lower level. I found out that I really prefer single deck layouts and the standard height will be 48-54”. I can do Benchwork up to about 33” deep at the 48” level and 18-24” deep at the 54” level. Merry Christmas to you too!
Great video Tim! Couple of questions. What camera are you using! I really liked that video of the engine coming out of the house at the beginning! The second question....Can you not give your notice to not work over 10 hours? Had that for years when I was working, maybe it's gone now?
Thanks Dean! The whole video was done with my iPhone. I don’t have a choice what time I get off. Just that I can’t do any work after 12 hours. Plus I’m not complaining about the extra money. This month the OT is there. Next month management will probably be looking at ways to cut a lot of it out. Big problem right now is not enough people and trains to run the current level of business.
Thanks! Yes all the turnouts are number 6 and the minimum radius on the curves is 24”. On the next layout I won’t go less than 30” on the main and 24” on industry tracks.
Nice layout, I'm assuming you live in the area that you are modeling. I'm a fellow Georgia model railroad modeler. I'm in lawrenceville northeast of Atlanta. I'm at the beginning stages of modeling the area of Auburn Georgia where there's a variety of switching opportunities in either direction of this town. In which I'm going to model the town as well.
Have to say that your layout is looking really great. I like the extra peninsula you are building. I might have missed it, but the new layout you mention, is that planned to be bigger?
Thanks! Yes I hope the new one will double the size of the current layout. Depends on what size of room I have in the basement of the new house though.
Lately I have been installing the New Rail Models Blue Point Switch Machines. Other turnouts on the layout are manually thrown using the finger flick method. At the engine terminal I have some Caboose Industries switch stands mounted to the edge of the layout with a throw bar hidden under the scenery and connected to the turnouts
Thanks for the quick reply. So you operate the turnouts manually. That's good and reliable and requires conductor action. I love watching the 2-4 hopper swap at the Farm Store on the Chehalis Virtual Railfan site which happens 3-4 times a week. The Farm Store siding appears to hold 10 cars and the cars are moved via winch for unloading. I am considering this for an industry on my layout.
Chehalis Virtual Railfan site camera operators maintain the daily train log so you can see the 40-50 trains that go by. Using Chat, you can request they unhide the train list of 600+ trains that pass this location and unhide the previous day's train log, if not shown. That way you can see if the local switcher has gone by. Trains within the last 12 hours can be watched via the train log. The Farm Store siding off Main 1 is viewed to the south (left) on the PTZ camera. They zoom in for most north bound trains so you get a view of the hoppers. The PTZ camera rotates and zooms. The static camera always points north. There is a link for the BNSF region industry map, google map, daily train log, and radio links. Though you model the east coast, this is a good view of a segment of a larger railroad served by BNSF, UP, CP/CN, and Amtrak.
I always love seeing how people model my area. Excellent work!
Thanks!
Tim...we should all hope to achieve what you have shown us in this video. Great work. Looking forward to the new layout...Harold
Thanks Harold!
The peninsula is looking fantastic! The track work is very nice. Thanks for showing the construction of the benchwork and wiring. Thanks for the update and tour of your layout. I am sure you are looking forward to the move, but enjoy your current layout for now. -Tom

Your hard work is well worth it! Your layout and everything in it and on it are something else. That is some top notch detailing.
Thanks Zach!

Great update Tim, very nice work!
Thank you!
Great video Tim and an incredible layout. Looking forward to the finished peninsula and many updates of the new layout
Thanks Sean!
I'd really love to see some details on the liftout. Can't wait to follow along as you move, and rebuild bigger and better!
Thanks! I am actually preserving the old lift out section. It will be a lot higher and probably mostly used as a duck under but still be able to be removed if needed. If you go way back to some of my early videos I think I show how I built this one. I’ll be sure to make a new video on it when I get it back in place. Tim
Great tour of the Seaboard Central
Thanks! The new layout is underway and I’ve been releasing videos every Sunday. I hope to get a lot finished to show for my next layout tour video coming up this November.
Thanks Tim. That was great. The layout looks very nice. Fine work.

Brother? This is bad-a$$! The wedding scene is a nice touch. Hat to see 1990 rotting away.
Check out the newly rebuilt 1990 in one of my recent vids. Thanks!
WOW! What a layout.
Thanks!
great work !!!
Thanks!
Lovin the layout but the down town perspective of the street absolutely brilliant. I’m new to model n scale especially the USA rail road I’m from the uk . I’ve got a lot to learn and I’ve been looking at your quality content so I’m going to subscribe to channel 👍

Love the graffiti on the boxcars looks so real
I agree, so realistic it’s like he may have dabbled on full scale cars in his formative years!
Thanks! Be sure to look for more on the new SC. Tim

Very good man on how you made griffin close to the real thing.
Thanks!
Impressive benchwork. Joeoz3751
Thanks Joe!
Hope you are enjoying the construction of the new layout!
amazing!
Thanks! Hope you’ve had a chance to see the new videos showing the start of the new SC.
Great video Tim! Couple of questions. What camera are you using! I really liked that video of the engine coming out of the house at the beginning! The second question....Can you not give your notice to not work over 10 hours? Had that for years when I was working, maybe it's gone now?

That's awesome
Thanks! I’ll be doing a new layout tour in November to show the progress on the new layout.
Thanks for letting us know the manufacturer of so many of the structures and road. Great work! Are the turnouts #6?
Cool. We moved to Woodstock.
Have to say that your layout is looking really great. I like the extra peninsula you are building.
I might have missed it, but the new layout you mention, is that planned to be bigger?
Thanks! Yes I hope the new one will double the size of the current layout. Depends on what size of room I have in the basement of the new house though.
Nice!
Thanks!
Unfortunate, this beautiful layout will be dismantled ...hopefully you’ll be able to reuse some of these great scenes in the new larger SC
The next version will have some scenes that look similar but I guarantee it will be better. Still, I will try to salvage as much as I can. Tim
Tim, since you work out of Chamblee do you know Ken Genicki?
Yes, he is retired but I still talk to him every now and then.
OK OK I SAW! 11 X 9 !
My old layout was 11 feet 9 inches by 23 feet 9 inches.
What do you use to physically operate the turnouts? How do you command the turnouts to move? I see you are using a hex froger for power.
