This is a valuable addition to my woodwork collection th-cam.com/users/postUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO I still will rate this woodwork plan as the best in my reference library. It always seem to stand out from the rest whenever you go through the library. This is a masterpiece.
AMAZING THOMAS ... I HAVE SEEN HIS FANTASTIC WORKS ... IT'S LIKE TO SEE A 3D MANDALA ... AWESOME, I'VE ALREADY KNEW MANY CHINESE WORKS, BUT HIS TECHNIQUE HAS AN UNIQUE END ... CONGRATULATIONS !!!
Thomas , this is by far the most insanely beautiful work of love ,beauty, patience ,and compassion to wood art I have ever seen . Thank you for bringing this to our eyes .👍💙💙😇🇺🇸
Thomas, you are a rare talent. You have a great mind for mathematics. You have great hands for creating what your mind envisions. You calm me, and your work amazes me. Bless you for what you inspire in us all.
Thomas, I have watched your turning in several of your videos and to date I have seen nothing but beauty in your craft. You produce nothing but museum quality pieces. The Atrium bowl is striking and so elegant in concept. I cannot say how much your work intrigues me.
I have very little expertise in wood turning but I remember standing beside my grandfather by the hour watching him turn spindles, bowls, table legs, etc., I was instructed by him in turning the scarf tie holder for my Boy Scouts uniform after weeks on instruction. I made this out of mazanita wood and it took 5-6 limbs to finally get one that was to his satisfaction. Manzanita is a wood that is very slow growing and consequently very dense and if you aren't careful with your gouges you end up burning them. it's a beautiful dark red and sometimes light blond in color and only found in the North Coastal mountains of California and in the western slopes of the Sierra's. That was enough to whet my desire to turn wood and it has been fun but I no longer do it because I am now involved with making jewelery with my wife of almost 40 years. That shows you how old I am (73). I now watch the youtube for wood turning instead. Keep up your fabulous work.
I would like to thank you all for the great comments! They really do lift me up. Since quite a few people mention the lines, i thought i need to elaborate a little on that. I never intended to make a perfect geometrical shaped bowl with this piece. It is more of a natural inspired piece, then a perfect geometrical one. I work without plans, just a general idea and listen more to what feels right. Idea's change, and often go into others directions this way. And sometimes you stumble upon obstacles this way. At the time i was making the centerpiece, i was planning on making as many spokes as there are lines. But then realised the spokes would be to close together ( at the center), for the thickness i wanted them to be. To me, the center has it's own character. And i feel it is still in touch/balance with the rest of the bowl. Not perfectly distanted or alligned with the spokes, but that's what gives the center it's own character, tells it's own story (for me atleast). The Uneven lines never bothered me during the process. The spaces in between the spokes differ in distance aswell, especially on the outside, where it adds up. But I am very pleased with the piece overall, also with the center.
Outstanding work and dedication to creating your vision! As for the spoke lines on the center piece, from one designer to another, I would say this - the bowl as a whole is exceedingly geometric. That suggests to the viewer that the spoke lines in the center piece should be/were meant to be precisely geometric. They don't depart from the overall geometry enough to read as intentionally non-geometric. Design decisions that seem to hover in between one decisive intention and another tend to be interpreted as mistakes, even if they weren't. This is not meant as an attack. Please keep creating wonderful objects, because you clearly already are!
Thomas Anton Guerts, I loved this video down to the music selection! Sounds silly, but I was feeling a bit anxious about stuff I've been dealing with and I usually like to watch Wood Turning videos as well as glass blowing videos etc when I'm stressed out as they seem to relax me. I was going to switch the video when I realized you weren't going to explain the process verbally while creating this piece, but I stuck with it and the pay off was fantastic. I actually feel that any talking over the video would have taken away from the experience. Congrats on your creation of this beautiful art piece man. Thanks for sharing :)
Не первый его ролик смотрю . Мужик не ищет легких путей . Приятно смотреть . Идея, исполнение, чистота, методичность ... Мне бы его спокойствие и чувство прекрасного ! Браво !!!
Omg. Im watching this while drinking beer and i had an eargasm. Whe n i saw the final product my eyes almost jizzed. Your amazing, loved the music and your camera/editing skills. I will have to subscribe and just hope for more stuff. AWESOME
i did not expect to sit down and watch this whole video, but the piece itself is incredible, and the videography and music were absolutely gorgeous! excellent work all around
I admire your meticulousness, your patience and perfectionism, as well as your way of thinking, different from others. Your works have a certain "suspense" because the idea is not seen until the end, in such a way that it interests and fascinates. And the result is amazing. Congratulations Thomas.
You know, I don't actually do any carpentry or turning, but I enjoy watching all kinds of crafting videos for the beauty and the joy of seeing a cool idea well executed. This video was different to most I've seen -- there was a hypnotic serenity to it that really drew me into what I imagine to be your groove when you work. Very cool experience. Also, last but not least, very nice work on the bowl, it turned out great! :)
I am not sure which impressed me more, your fantastic wood working skills or the superb quality of your video production. Great job, best video production I have ever seen on you tube, and the creativity of your design is mind blowing! (not to mention your mad woodworking skills!).
Thank you so much Donald!, what great compliment. means alot to me. To be honoust I'm struggling to feel well during these 'darker winter months. And reading some of the negative, hateful comments sometimes (rarely), i would be lying to say it doesn't effect me. So much physical/mental energy goes into creating video's, and i don't understand the amount of dislikes, i know it is long 30 minutes. But i try to make it so that it would atleast relax people, if nothing else. The amount of positive responses, like yours far exceeds the negative though. I think it is hard to understand for people, until they themself and their work are exposed to the public opinion..
@@TAG-1984 Thomas, you are an amazing artist and wicked wood worker. Stay positive! And keep sharing despite the negative comments. Your vision is unbelievable! I am in awe watching you work. And I agree with Donald that your videography is also amazing. I am a fan!!
Marvellous it's like going on a journey through someone's mind not knowing what is coming next and just accepting that what happens is meant to be. Beautiful !!!
I came back to comment here after seeing your comment about reuploading. I wanted to say that I appreciate the two artpieces you are showing us. One is the project, the other the video. I dont watch every 33 minute video all the way to the end, but this one i did. Very enjoyable, relaxing and inspiring. Thanks for sharing!
This video says alot about you man... The dedication in craftsmanship and artistry, the video angles, clarity and editing, choice of music, and so on. Watching this video was an experience in itself. Props to you man, props to you.
I very much appreciate the time and effort it took to shoot this video - above and beyond the making of your bowl! This gives us the insider's view of how your amazing work comes to fruition. Thanks for this considerable effort.
My friend, watching you work and listening to the music you choose to narrate your videos with makes me feel really peaceful. And your creations are truly beautiful.
I love that you use wenge and padauk, they're some of my favorites and they compliment each other so well. With the maple everything just pops, it's stunning!
Thomas this is one really technical and time consuming piece of turning. It looks fantastic. The end result shows the care taken with the construction. excellent does not seem the word to do it justice.
Wow, what a lot of work and what fantastic result. True masterpiece. I don't even work with wood, but this was so fascinating that I just had to watch. Vey well done and thanks for sharing.
It's a lovely piece for sure. As a beginner though I wish there were fewer art shots and more specifically those that show tools and technique. Bravo for this design!
Sometimes, the imperfections is the art, doing think by following heart and instinct, the outcomes is planned. But the satisfactions building it, are the ones that satisfy some people. My mom used to say that to us ☺️
You have more talent in your left pinky than all your negative critics combined. P.S... I think the music was very comfortable as I watched a very well edited video. You are making a turning video, I wouldn’t expect you to make a perfectly produced one. I’m subbing!
You truely are a gifted artist. It takes dedication to tackle something like that. Bravissimo!!! Apart from the unevenly divised centre piece, which is hitting my OCD like a sledge hammer on an egg, everything is astonishingly wonderfull.
For the Love of everything that is living! Thank you. You succeded not only in creating something beautiful, but you accomplished it without saying a word; you just turned the wood and nobody had to listen to you talk about yourself or listen to you pitch your channel.
Throughout the video, and to the very end I hoped that the master still Stoch terrible crooked furrows cut in the central part, or even paint it. It's just a nightmare !!! As for the rest - I bow the knee, it's amazing!
Rather than a bowl, it reminded me more of a wooden spiders web! If spiders made websf wood in an alternate universe that is! Lol very nice job! Thank you for sharing your time, skill, and passion with us!
Thomas: You must be an engineer to figure this out, you have the mind of a genius. This piece is without a doubt beautiful. To bad you don't have any commentary to go with your video. Keep up the outstanding work. Joe in Calif.
You are obviously a `highly skilled man`, and I wish my maths was as good as yours ! hehe. This is by far the best "wood turned" bowl I have viewed to date Thomas. Many congratulations and thank you for sharing this video with us. [cliff from london].
These examples of wood turnings along with certain modifications can produce very attractive pieces of furniture in different styles and types of construction.I have done some research on training sapling trees to grow in different styles and shapes and sometimes in different colors.
I watched this video and was absolutely mesmerized. The details, the intricacy, the design itself showcases some of the BEST wood working skills I've ever seen. I've also read the comments regarding the center piece and am surprised that they are regarding it, as one commentator stated, as distracting. Well, I'd say this to them... what you think is a distraction, I think is a character trait. I personally don't understand how some people see this piece and think "flaw". There's a simple solution.....do one yourself without the "distraction". Y'all have a nice day. 😎
Where is the spider? You have created a superbly imagined piece, excellently crafted and worked. Your video production is also excellent. I have just found another wood working channel along with Kyle Toth, Frank Howarth, Alex 2Q and Laura Kampf, to enjoy watching,
One of the finest pieces of woodworking that i have ever seen in my life. A lot of work, more then a lot, but the result is absolut awesome. My greatest respect to you.
this was pure enjoyment to watch. I find your videos highly relaxing and you are a true craftsman to your art. thank you for doing such beautiful pieces of art!
Only an old and very experimented spider could maybe try to compete with the masterpiece you offered us. Thank you Thomas.
:)) thank you Robert

Thomas Anton Geurts how long did this take you?
Around 2 months total. With filming and editing combined. Not full time though, it took around 100-130 hours.
guess you answered my question

WOW just a great piece of art. And who said that High School Geometry would never be needed, except here is proof that Geometry is very much needed.
Wow. I have never seen such precise, creative, stunning, and gorgeous pieces like this ever.

Wonderful woodwork and great videomaking !
Breath taking.
This was the most satisfying 33 minutes and 15 seconds of my life. I am in lobe with your work.
Such precision!
A beautiful piece of art ! It must have been a bit scary putting it on the lathe after all the work preparing it. All the best, Jim.
Thanks Jim! It was scary, i was also afraid of to much tear-out, but it went very well after all
great arts combining - precision tool shop, camera editing and beautiful bowl idea , thanks for sharing.
