- Staged by Rob Ashford, Chita performs "I Don't Want to Know" from Dear World (and Jerry's Girls) and "The Best of Times is Now" in tribute to Jerry Herman, along side Angela Lansbury, Carol Channing, Matthew Morrison, Christine Ebersole, Christine Baranski, Laura Benanti, Kelsey Grammer, Sutton Foster, Kelli O'hara, Matthew Bohmer, and the Walter Johnson High School choir from Bethesda, Maryland.
Chita received a 1985 Tony nomination for Best Actress for Jerry's Girls, a revue of Jerry Herman's music and lyrics.
The talent is magnificent. With three LEGENDS of musical theatre holding hands, front and centre. Chita, Angela, Carol. All are gone now. RIP to them and Jerry Herman!
I love christine Baranski, Christine Ebersole, Carol Channing, Chita Rivera and Angela Lansbury
How did the stage not crumble under the weight of all that talent?
Right?!!
Stupendous!
Just the combined # of Tony Awards could cause the floor to collapse!!
They just don't make them like this anymore. I cannot BELIEVE how well Angela Lansbury looks; it's like she never ages. What a wonderful group of talented people!
Miss Carol Channing, ladies and gentlemen!!!!
I had the great pleasure of seeing a rivival of Mack And Mabel at the Shaw Festival in Canada. Terrific production! It should be revived more.
The loving tribute this giant so richly deserved!
Just looking at those three grand dames of Broadway, holding hands and doing what they've done for so long.
Jerry Herman had a great sense of MELODY !
I was mesmerized by both Matthews in this video! The whole thing was fantastic though.
Jerry Herman is brilliant, a true one of a kind.
This is 2010. Dame Angela is 85 and Carol Channing, nearly 90! Wow!
What phenomenal music. Nothing like classic B'way.
Breathtaking and beautiful. What a wonderful tribute to a great man of Broadway letters!
I still remember fondly singing his songs from Mame on the stage in College. What a genius and its Sooo true that he has created songs FULL of happiness, longing and in fact, has captured the American dream of neighborliness and the dream of recognition we strive for in Hello Dolly's music.
Just because I do not think she is getting enough mentions / respect. Carol Channing is amazing.
Got to see her twice and she is amazing
JERRY HERMAN IS A GENIUS , LOVE ALL HIS SONGS, ESPECIALLY "THE BEST OF TIMES"
Watching now April 2022 and the tribute is fantastic. 👏🙏🥰🎵🎶📽️
Love the two Christines. A stage full of Broadway Divas.
QUE MARAVILLA!!!!
Fantastic... if one could only have written one of those songs one would be proud and what about Miss Channing... terrific
Terrific effort by all performers.
Just pure magic!
Thank you so much for posting! I teared up. Jerry Herman is an icon and the performances (even if truncated) did his tribute justice. I believe that's the Jerry Herman Tribute Choir on "I Am What I Am" and the Gay Men's Chorus of Washington, DC on "The Best Of Times".
Matthew Morrison rocked that performance !

Agreed!
They forgot to announce Dame Angela Lansbury. But how could you not know who she is? 😊
They introduced her when she came out before the musical performances to read his background (for lack of a better word) introduction.
@searchingstarlight The songs are from Mame, Dear World, La Cage Aux Folles and Hello Dolly.
I think Angela should have reprised her song for "I Don't Want To Know" but overall BRAVO!
Thank you, @njreo :)
Jesus, the security would have been insane for that show. Is their anybody who isn't there? Is that Bill T Jones next to him?
I can't help but feel that this performance would have been ten times better if Bea Arthur was still alive and able to sing Bosom Buddies with Angela.
chita :)
What song is Laura Bennti singing and from what show?
Also, my dance teacher is dancing in this. Awesome.
Time Heals Everything, from Mack And Mabel
what songs are these and what shows are they from?
totally awsome :)
It's Today - Mame
Laura Benanti sings Time Heals Everything better than Bernadette Peters! Great Performances from the entire cast!
was carol channing's bit cut short???
I am sure any number of the performances were shortened for television
This is theatre!

@searchingstarlight And Mack and Mabel.
What kind of conductor can't find the tempo to "Bosom Buddies"???? Jeeesh.
such a boring and very tame salute to a brilliant composer. I usually love Rob Ashford. He usually makes productions move, but this one fell flat on too many moments. Some of it was the songs selections and the performers who sang them. This seemed more like a wink and a nod (which was what Sutton Foster did after performing in a very mediocre way (and I love Sutton Foster). There was so much wasted talent. As a whole, this seemed very unrehearsed. I saw George do Albin in the original La Cage, and the range of emotions I felt for almost every number and every performer (except the son, he was terrible) was thru the roof. To dumb down and drown out all of the emotional upliftings of a song like The Best of Times is very tragic. That song was meant to be a killer-style finale. Maybe they needed a director and choreographer as opposed to someone simply staging the show to give it the powerful, emotional, and rising up joyously thru song and dance that a Jerry Herman musical entails. Even poor Jerry at times looked bored and displeased, though putting on his best poker face since they are supposed to be celebrating him.
Herman is good, but 2nd rate Jule Stein.

Chita Rivera the one and only what a dances she is?, god bless her.
