They could’ve sung the Spaceballs theme and had Mark Hamill sing it as a way to show no bad blood between Star Wars and Spaceballs
I was surprised about no Young Frankenstein, too. It was one of his crowning achievements with Gene Wilder. Maybe they couldn't do Puttin' On The Ritz for some reason?
Mel got teary-eyed during the "Like Him" number. Very sweet.
its sad that Mel sits there...holding back the tears, knowing this is a great tribute while he is alive...He is magnificent. I got to work with him once and he caught me starring at him..............he smiled
Mr. Brooks has filled my life with hours and hours of laughter. Thank you Mel! You are amazing.
A beautiful tribute to a genuine genius. Mr Mel Brooks. Bravo.
I’ll always love Mel for both pushing boundaries and adhering to them. He knew always that satire and comedy punched up, never down.
He’s had his missteps, as we all do, but he held firm that those suffering weren’t where you get laughs.
Mel Brooks is an American classic...no one can hold a candle to his satirical
genius! :)
I love his reaction during the final piece and theh begin to spin around the wooden characters Mel has played over the years.
This is so sweet! Mel Brook’s face when Brodrick sings Till him 😭😭
You could feel the love everyone had for him, brings a tear to your eye. An absolutely brilliant man that the world is a much, much better place for having.
Anyone who doesn’t like Mel Brooks films has no heart no soul and no sense of humour. 💜💜💜💜💜
to see a legend enjoying the music and singing along is fantastic
No matter how much time goes by, I find myself needing to watch this wonderful evening over and over again. God Bless Mel.
" . . . there will never ever be another one like him!" Very, very true. Mel Brooks certainly is one of a kind!
Mel Brooks is a legend and master of parody. May the swartz be with him always!
I come back at least once a year to watch this. Thank God for Mel Brooks!
I think we need to get busy working on that Mel Brooks voiced GPS
Siri, take me to ludicrous speed!
"You have just missed your turn...are you feshnickered?"
I said turn left you schmuck
I come back to this every once in a while because its an amazing tribute and I love seeing his reaction to it all.
When I saw this on TV I nearly cried at the end!!! Both Mel's reaction and the changing of the meaning of the song 'Til Him' just... Oh it was brilliant!!!
We love ya Mel!!!
This man has influenced more people than anyone but Christ Jesus. Mel Brooks is simply a gift to the art of .making movies. His movies always tell a story about mankind and how we treat each other. I have almost every single movie he has ever made. I think that he is the greatest movie producer ever. God Bless Mel Brooks.
What a touching tribute and watching Mel brooks reaction was so moving
I love how pure Mel’s reactions are
Robert De Niro, Mel Brooks and Bruce Springsteen? Wow, three of my heroes sitting next to each other. This is awesome!
And all of them received Kennedy Center Honors!!They and the President get balcony seats!!!
Holy crap I I laughed so hard I wet my pants TW IC E !!!
@Alden Buyer For sure. Kennedy Center Honors are fucking awesome man
That's the dream. To have a calling and act upon it. Then to be admired and cherished for your life's work. Thats what brings me to tears. 😭
I think Mel Brooks needs to make one final, epic movie...
i agree
I whole heartedly agree. It's a damn shame that people get so easily offended these days that it's probably impossible to make a movie on par with what he has made in the past and that's a damn shame for filmmaking in general.
SoraKirin
They gotta make that kind of film anyway. Can't let the overly sensitive stop that. They can choose not to watch the film or do whatever it is that they do when not making others miserable with their lack of humor. They should be so lucky to have another Mel Film.
History of the World Part 2?
+John Smith Actually, it's "Spaceballs III: The Search for Spaceballs II," at least from what I've heard.
Their will never ever be another one like him. We love you Mel Brooks.
Mel is such a special man... I love him dearly.
The beauty of a Mel Brooks movie is, you can watch it 100 times, and still find something you never noticed before. A comedic genius Thank you Mel Brooks.
Happy Anniversary to the man who filled our empty lives for their will never ever be another one like you Mel Brooks.
How dull would life be without the many great Mel Brooks movies.
sadly absent was gene wilder with whom he had his greatest hits and as I understand co wrote a lot of his stuff...... must be a medical reason one assumes.
He and his family kept his Alzheimer's hush hush and he died in 2016.
@@Ma_Ba yeah Gene apparently didnt want the world to lose the magic of seeing him as their favorite characters. Not some old man with Alzheimers. :(
They are least had Carl Reiner at the end.
Gene and Mel only wrote Young Frankenstein together.
Michael Worsham Dont forget the produvers
91 years old today! "~THERE WILL NEVER EVER EVER BE ANOTHER ONE LIKE HIMMMMM~"
And he is now 95 and his work is still great
Mel Brooks is a genius....a pity his wife is not there to share this homage
....and by the way beside him is also honored the great mezzosoprano Grace Bumbry....
This entire tribute is perfection: first for Mel and his genius, and then to see the joy and humanity of Barack and Michelle, and just for this moment, to remember what the White House was like back then, and will, we sincerely hope, rise to that level again.
You mean Mr. & Mr. Obama? The liars? With their own agenda? The ones that were trying to sell out the USA to China? Ya right. It was a real "joy" to see them. Blick! 😝
FYI: Before Matthew Morrison was on GLEE, he was a Broadway actor/hoofer!!!!
Mel Brooks is the comedy genius of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries! No one will ever top him.
I love watching this again and again thankyou mel Brooks 🌹🙏
Not the first time to watch this and likely will watch many more times just like so may of Mel's movies. To see Mel smile and enjoy the time during the performance is so wonderful to watch just like the performance is a joy to see. Thanks Mel for capturing a needed and wonderful look at life. You spare no one and do it with such skill.
i love how obama seemed to like the men in tights song the best.. that's the one that would have had me smiling the biggest as well :)
swish007
That's because Obama seems to like men in tights.....best.
Jack black men in tights
men in tights is very underrated
Who doesn't love "Men in Tights". Funny movie. Same with "Dracula: Dead and loving it".

I absolutely love and adore Mel Brooks! What talent! What a glorious sense of humor! What an amazing, amazingly talented gentleman. I was so fortunate to be in a production of The Producers and it was so much fun! It was often hard to contain our laughter at times, because no matter how many times we heard a joke or saw a bit, it was hilarious. God Bless You, Mel Brooks -- there will never be another one like you, and thank you for all you've shared with us. ❤
Gary beach was so wonderful - such a shame he left us so young!
This man is a genius. I grew up watching all his movies, the generation that laughed at ourselves and each other with no hurt feelings. What an awesome tribute, and just watching him and his reactions had me in tears.
This only bad thing is that he wasn’t able to share this moment with is wife, Anne Bancroft
It makes me happy Obama was genuinely a fan of theatre and music.
19 people works for Hedley Lamar!
ArgaAnders Hedy Lamar?
Danendra Hartawan
Yeah that´s the one! I didn´t dare to write the dark lords name out loud!
+Danendra Hartawan it's Hedley!
+Danendra Hartawan lol
Hey........what are you worried about? This is 1874.......YOU CAN SUE HER!!!!
That was positively fantastic! I had never seen this before until now. Miss all the uproarious laughter you gave us Mel Brooks! Sadly, there's not much laughter these days and there's no laughter coming out of Hollywood anymore.
When Mel looks like he was starting to cry, almost made me cry.
What a gorgeous tribute to Mel Brooks.
Simply marvelous.
The final song said it all, "There'll never be another like him".
There will absolutely never, ever, ever, ever, ever be anyone else like him. He is a comedic genius and no one can do the type of humor that he does and not offend anyone. I adore Mel Brooks 💙
Mel brooks understands comedy like no one else. He’s honestly one of if not the greatest comedic minds in all of show business.
Countless absurd comments below refer to the woman behind Mel Brooks “not getting it”. She’s concentrating. She’s emotional. As she was his invited guest, is likely his daughter, and even sings along at times, she “gets” it. Had his wife been alive, she would have been there. She “got” his humor as well.
As for those of you who insist on making political comments- shame on you. This is a tribute to a brilliant humorist who shone a spotlight on every prejudice he ever saw. Either you’re trying to draw attention to yourself, or you just don’t get it.
I'm going to sob when he passes. I'm 41, so my entire childhood was filled with his movies. We'd watch them repeatedly. I only had a handful of celebrities that i wanted to meet growing up. He's one of them, but it'll never happen, and that's okay. I'm just happy i got to experience his mastery while he was still active in showbiz. I can't help but tear up whenever i watch this tribute. He means so much to me and millions of others. ❤️
Well mr Brooks, a musical genius as well a comedy genius, thank you and all in you tribute so much.
