    Hi guys from Australia. I found your channel only recently and have become a bit addicted. Your love of knives reminds me of myself at your age. I had a collection of great knives that I used daily when I lived in the remote rainforest of Far Northern Australia. I have had various collections of knives over the years that I used daily, but over the past few years, I've not had many. You're inspiring me to rebuild my collection again, purely so that I have them when I need them.

    What do you guys think of the Benchmade Bushcrafter? It looks awesome even the sheath has a cool look. What I really like is the thick handle near the guard, many companies do the opposite making handles to thin. I notice some Barkriver knives kind of have that same handle style. Anyways I just got the Garberg for dirt cheap but when I'm able to afford a full premium knife it might be that Benchmade .

    Great video, gentlemen. I got a Fiddleback Forge Ladyfinger in A2. Stunning looks with an excellent sheath. Wouldn't say that A2 is my favorite steel. Prefer CPM 3V & Elmax. Favorite EDC is either of my BRK Essentials - one in CPM M4 & the other in CPM 20CV. Lesser known/used steels but both great performers in edge-retention & ease of sharpening

    Say Heah M$M, I feel great. I got a Mora Kansbol with the Molle Attachment. I got it especially for my Fox Parang Bushcraft Jungle Knife both are in the O. D. Green. I've used them on a couple of tripz and both complemented each other perfectly. But two days ago, I Piggybacked both of them and they came out great. The Mora Kansbol is a Lite Knife so it doesn't add much weight piggybacking them together. Yeah, you got it, I neck carry my Eldris with this combo. But I also added my 17" Hultafors Bruks Agdor Hatchet and my WoW Folding Saw. I also like using my Kodiak Gearsling with this combination, because I can Molle attach my Agdor Hatchet along the side if my Gearsling. It's not a Lite Carry, but then I have a perfect Survival Set. When I use this set, and I know I won't need a summer long knife. My Hatchet is sharp enough that I can use it to clear my way through the lite stuff. If I need a Summer Long Knife, I could bring my Johnson Adventure Parangatang which I put Black Handles on it. F. Y. I. the ZT Swabbie or the ZT Zomstro handles fit the Parangatang and Potbelly, it's perfect for the job. But I'm also ready to start using my (2) Modified Knives a perfect match. I had my Battle Horse Attitude in O1, and my Mad Hatter Machete in L6, both made with White G-10 Handles and Blue Liners. The Attitude I had it Slightly Curved, with a High Scandi Vex Grind, I also had tge Drop Point Lowered. It came out Simply TiT's, Beautiful. The two match like Micky and Martin, heh heh heh. Yeah, I also have a Schrade SharpFinger made in the U. S. A. with a White Scrimshaw Handle (Derlin). I use it as my neck knife. But then also, I could team my Bark River's and use my B R Golok as my Summer Long Knife. Seriously Guy's, I'm not bragging, just sharing. I really enjoy your video's. Your my top three channels. Thabx You.,,. p

    oh bros.... it's a shame that you didn't get the real kabar usmc. with less than a hundred buck on amazon. Def should try that, it's a complete different story as the replica. Even ontario/cold steel have got similar quality knives similar to that which work totally fascinating.

    • @jelaienfinue
      @jelaienfinue 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When I saw Mikey's knock-off of the USMC I immediately understood why he was so disappointed. Cheap copies of that knife are all over the place, but they're FAR from being as good as the original. The USMC is not a blade for bushcraft, but it'd be way better than what Mikey has.

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vielen dank mein freund!it would be a short video haha. We have very limited folders. Just some opinels, some victorinox knives, some higonokami knives, gerber gator and some replica crap haha. Folders are great for edc and I wear some as my unboxing knives. I just feel like edge retention and stuff like that just matters less on folders. In combination with the fact that we do mostly survival and bushcraft related tasks, fixed blades are the way to go for us. There are some very beautiful folders I would love to have but I just can't justify the price for what i'd use it for.
      Mit freundliche gruss!

    i have a cpm s90v knife haha dont really recommend.. the only thing u can sharpen it with properly is diamonds the amount of vanadium carbides in it will just wear away any other stone you try to use... they are a 9-9.5 on mohs hardness scale walked into a knife shop and the guy was trying to sharpen his s90v knife with ceramic rods and i started laughing he asked why and i told him the knife is harder then the rod never seen him do that again. on the plus side it does stay sharp forever...
    good hrc correction it officially maxes out at 70 lol the only thing that can get past it is CPM REX 121.
    all your bark rivers and fallkniven's are making me drool.. keep up the good videos always enjoy watching.

    I think the japanese knife is amongst the "normal knives" a bit lonely but also extraordinary and not everywhere to get. I am thinking about the Roselli quite a little while but I am not sure about the big standard handle. Very intersting you make or modify your knives, look good!

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I only own a small knife if CPM 154. I haven't had the time to test it much yet but it was pretty easy to sharpen on my water stones. Edge holding should be very decent. For a PM-steel it's one of the more basic steels but this makes it veyr balanced in terms that it is easy to sharpen, holds a very decent edge and can get very sharp pretty easily. I like the steel so far. as long as the price is right it's a good steel!

    Great video guys. I agree with a lot of what was said . I'm from Canada ( great country ), I did the research and found my three favorite knives are in order Bark River Fallkniven and then the Esse . So far I only have the Bark River. Would like to add that these are bush craft and meat processing which I have not done any of that yet .Question what is the best steel and why ? I have the A2 Thanks so much Don

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Don,
      Thanks a lot for the compliment!
      Bark River is one of the top knife manufacturers in the world in my opinion. Currently my most favourite steel is CPM-3V. It is very allround and keeps a great edge. I like it a lot more than a2 to be honest. I would personally always pay a little bit more to get cpm-3v. Bark river's handle geometry is very excellent on almost all their knives. Esee would probably disappoint you if you own a bark river. the 1095 on 56-57 HRC is very very soft and in my opinion doesn't fit their smaller knives.
      My top 3 steels at this moment are 1: CPM-3V 2: Elmax 3: CoS Both CoS and elmax have potential of becoming my most favourite steel in the future as they are very excellent but I havee less experience with them still. I also recently own M390 which is even better than elmax in terms of edge retention. Might get high up in that list as well.
      My top 3 knife brands at this moment would be 1: Bark River 2: Fallkniven 3: Enzo
      Hope this helps mate!

    You have some very fine knives there. May I ask what country you gentlemen are in? I only as because several years ago I came across a sword in an antique store. The blade needed attention, the handle was very sad, the guard was completely tarnished and a part was missing. The scabbard was quite rusty and banged up. I asked the clerk about it and was told it was nothing but a prop for a theater group. I asked permission to draw the sword and the first thing I noted was Armory Marks. I pulled the blade all the way and found it was sharpened properly for a saber. I asked how much as was told they would take $125 for it. I paid and got out of there before they changed their minds. A search turned up the sword was over 100 years old and when cleaned up the minimum value was $1000. The sword was made in Sweden and issued to Swedish Troops. It took a tall man to draw this blade, it's 37 1/2 inches long. I'm sorry I don't have the maker here at this time but I will later on.

      Depending on the handle material you'll have to oil it and maybe sand it after a while. I also oil carbon steels once in a while but I don't like it when they are too oily. After the knife has been in the drawer for a while I always strop it a few times to get rid of any micro oxidation that has happened on the apex.
      I mostly use lanyards for making a knife more noticeable like a orange lanyard on a blade that would be hard to find on the forest floor. I seldom use them for chopping as this can be pretty dangerous.

    It's been couple months and I need to ask. Watched most of your videos (love them!) and wanted to get A1 or a bigger knife initially, but after a while I decided on Enzo Trapper since I'll pair it with axe and saw. But I was leaning towards n690 for stainless capability. How does it compare to O1? and what do you guys think about it in general?

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      it has a little less edge retention than the O1 (this is enzo specific) Enzo does a very good heat treatment on their O1 steel. I own both O1 and N690Co and I like both though. If you have the possibility of getting the elmax version I would definitely pick that one over both these. It's also stainless!

      @TheSentissimo 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the reply :) I would go for Elmax, but can't find it at the moment. I'll try out N690Co and keep look for Elmax or something from Bark River. Once again, love your videos, keep it up :)

      Mostly because of their videos haha. We have some cold steels but previously their steels weren't very interesting. Now that they have 3V we got the Master Hunter. We'll be doing a video on it soon.
      thanks a lot!

    Hello, I wanted to ask you for the many knives you own and use, according to you for a knife to be used in nature for a long time away from home it is better to use simpler steels like 1095, 01, 440C, 420HC simpler to restart on the field even if they keep the cut off. Or, it would be better to run on superstells like M390, Elmas, 3V, S35VNecc.
    Let me know what you think, thanks to Michele.

    @Dutch Bushcraft Knives if you don't want your O1 tool steel to rust, you can easily prevent it. Boil up some cleaning vinegar (schoonmaak azijn bij de appie), put the knife in there. You will see bubbles and after a few minutes, you notice the steel turns a bit blueish. That creates a layer that protects the knife against rust. I've done this to several knives. Doesn't make it stainless, but it prevents serious rust.

    Hello !
    Bark River Bravo 1 ( CPM3V ) , or Fallkniven F1 pro ? What do you recommend ? Here in Europe , Bark River is much more expensive than Fallkniven ! I would like your honest opinion , between these , two knives !

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      A very difficult choice. I think I can't chose yet because I feel I still know too little about the CoS steel. Currently I feel like CPM-3V has a slightly better edge retention while the CoS steel is a more balanced steel allround. CoS get's a sharper edge more easily and is easier to sharpen overall. I really really like both steels. If you want to personalize a knife and want it to be kinda unique with very good performance I would go with Bark River. If you want a badass knife for survival tasks and you don't want to worry about keeping your knife and sheath clean, Fallkniven would be the way to go. Personally, If you had to pay 300 for a bark river cpm-3v I would go with Fallkniven. If they are priced the same the choice is as above,.
      Hope this helps mate!

      Hey Luis,
      Mikkie had a Fallkniven in 3G in his early knife collecting years. We didn't understand much about knifesteels, geometries etc. The 3G was very chippy but we cannot conclude anything about it as we might have used a wrong angle, batonned on sand stained places and what else. Just this weekend I was thinking about getting 3G again and see how it compares to CoS and VG-10. We should be able to make a good comparison now. So maybe I will get one later on!

      +Frederik Kjaer the elmax one. Elmax is a 'new' technology powder steel. It also has quite some vanadium giving it awesome edge retention

    Best bushcraft knife in my collection.

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      they look lovely but besides knife collectors we are also steel hunters. O1 is a good steel but not very exotic. We are very satisfied with our O1 knives but if I spend money on a knife nowadays I look at both the knife and which steel it uses. I want to compare as many steels as possible :) But still I have to say the jacklore's are beautiful!

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Nikola Lutov we were mostly scared away by their over top commercials. They mostly use cheap materials and produce a lot in places like Taiwan and China. We were happy to see they started using 3v and we bought the master hunter which performed pretty good so our opinion has changed a bit. Most of their knives though are still made to look badass instead of practical

    • @nikolalutov8898
      @nikolalutov8898 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Appreciate the time you took to answer me guys. Btw I was also very careful not to order any of their blade series which are made in Taiwan (not a fan also). However, the SRK is Japan-made (Kinryu or Aichi factories) and I think it is pretty discent given its price range. If you haven't, you should probably give it a try and maybe make us happy with one of your great reviews! Respect and keep up the great work! :D
