    Greetings gents, I just wanted to comment on this video. Years ago after extensive research and back and forth trying to justify the expense I bought the F1 g10 version. (I didn’t have a lot of money at the time, $99 was expensive for me) So being so excited when I finally received it, I ran out to use it. I gathered wood to carve and start a fire, pulled the knife out and stuck it into a stump to crouch down and get positioned and then pulled it out only for the tip to break off. I thought I may have hit a rock or something in the wood but no there was nothing. You could only imagine the disappointment. When I contacted Fallkniven they told me that the tip was not covered under the warranty due to misuse. It broke off about a 1/4 inch. This inspired me to make my own knife.

    I love fallkniven as well. Bought the S1 pro based on your review of it. Can't wait to put it to the tests. My old F1 still holds a special place in my heart though.
    Keep up the good work gents, you men are gonna have your own reality adventure show before it's over!

      haha that would be awesome! I know exactly what you mean about your F1 having a place in your heart. It's the same with my f1 and some of my other knives. It's also a reminder of all the great memories.

    Thanks for the great content, loving the solid information and humour mix. I have come to purchase an S1 pro based on your recommendations.
    Now I am wondering if you guys have ever tried taking out the foam padding within the waterproof boxes the pro series are delivered with. I figured I won't need that padding, since the box would make of great use for other stuff than a survival knife.
    Thanks for answers, I am looking forward to future vids, have a nice one.

    please please do a video on sharpening an F1.
    A month ago, I went to the knife shop to get a mora bushcraft, they didnt have it in stock, and long story short, when they showed me the F1, I was mesmerized! So shiny and beautiful, and so good to hold!
    But here's the thing, it's my first knife and I'm pretty sure I'm sharpening it wrong, because it tears paper instead of slicing.
    Help :(

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives

    Mickey and Martin ... I, like everyone else, find your videos both informative, funny, and am always inspired to buy a new knife. I suppose l fall into the category of addicted knife junkie in need of the 12 step program as well. I own the Fallkniven S1 Pro, TK6 and now the "almighty weapon of Thor", A1 Pro. This knife is waiting for a custom sheath from Brandon at Red Rhino Customs. Can't help thinking that once l own the ultimate knife in three sizes, along with the best sheath ... There will be no more need to buy knives ! But l know you guys will help me negotiate my way around such a ridiculous notion. Keep up the great work and Martin l hope your TH-cam video concept does indeed get you rich, after all.

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hey Martin!,
      I've looked at the a2 model in the past but it's too large for our use. It's a beast and I would ofcourse love to have it but I would probably never use it. The A1 is large enough for my wood splitting. The F1 is a lovely knife, especially in combination with an axe or larger blade.
      - stay sharp!

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd say the F1. Elmax is the better steel but the F1 overall is the better knife. Also the laminate on the Vg-10 does pretty well against salt but you should definitely dry it after use with salt water

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It looks like a very usable and capable blade! I like that Helle puts a lot of handwork in their knives. 12c27 might be a cheaper steel but still very much worth it in a Helle knife. I don't think you'll regret getting the knife. Helle's are fine bushcraft knives and perform excellent for carving and that sort of jobs. Hope this helps!

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Alberto, both are excellent knives. It actually all depends on your own needs the the purpose the knife is going to have. You might also want to check out the lionsteel m4 and Enzo trapper. These are very fair priced knives.
      For me fallkniven and Bark river are top notch brands. However, if you go with bark river I would suggest going for cpm-3v over A2. I don't like a2 from bark river at all. CPM-3V on the other hand is exceptionally great. If you need a very well balanced steel fallkniven is a good choice. VG-10 or CoS are both very well balanced. Very decent edge retention while still very easy to sharpen.

      Hey Cayoot, thanks! I have very bad experience with Esee. I might have had one with a bad heat treat but the 1095 @ 55-57HRC was just way to soft. The factory edge is to large to use and when you decrease the angle the edge gets so weak it bends when feathersticking. I loved the sheath and build quality but the knife was really the worst knife I had for the money. Esee knows how to do good marketing but their choices for survival knives aren't good in my opinion. they are also as expensive as a fallkniven here in the Netherlands so for us they are not worth it.

    Hey guys!
    Im pretty new to your channel, but im already loving it - great content!
    I have always used the cheap Mora companion knifes when i have been out on outdoor trips, as i think its a great allround campsite knife.
    For hunting and fishing i have used my small foldable Buck knife.
    I just want to ask you guys if you could give me a good tip on what knife i could buy, that would combine these two?
    The price wont be an issue. The knife must be able to be used as an allround campsite knife for like, small wood carving, feather sticks and so on. And for the hunting purpuse it must be able to skin, gut and carve out anything from a squirrel to a deer and fish ofc.
    I always carry an axe when im on outdoor tours, so the knife doesnt need to be good at battoning.
    I hope you can help me!

      you should definitely take a look at bark River. I can highly recommend the Gunny, Bravo 1, Bushcrafter or Aurora in either CPM-3V or Elmax. You can also check out the Fallkniven F1, S1 or A1. Enzo also has some nice knives like the Enzo Trapper or Badger.
      Lionsteel M4 or M5 would also be a good choice. I hope you can find something that suits you!

      Man.. that is some fine knifes right there. Tough choice! I have always been in love with knifes from Fallkniven, but the blade on the Bark River Aurora looks to be perfect for skinning and gutting. Or maybe the Liten Bror from Bark River! A smaller knife is often lovely to work with on skinning.

    Mate, seeing you guys have so many CoS blades, I have a question. How does CoS hold against chipping? I love my S1 but it chips so easily and that's one of the reasons I kinda stopped using it as much as before. My EDC has AUS 8 (a trusty RAT 1) and I really started appreciating softer steels more than supersteels for daily use. Cheers!

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't had any chips on my CoS yet. however, the 60HRC and the alloys used show that it would rather chip than bend. I luckily have no experience with it chipping so far!

      Love the look and build quality of Bark River but I will always go for a knife that will easily stay in my hand over one that will slip right out with anything other than a deathgrip. I just don't understand the appeal of slick bark river handles.

    One concern I, living in Sweden, would have about the pro series is that the finger guard is metal. It looks cool but it also gets very cold very quickly in the Swedish winter. Maybe not as big a concern in most of continental Europe but It still seems like an unnecessary downgrade.

    @wasbeer77 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hee mannuh. Tijdje terug heb ik een S1Pro aangeschaft als upgrade van m'n A1 die ik na een paar keer batonnen aan bonken mepte op een stuk spar. Peppie spul, die S1Pro en ik was erg onder de indruk van de Cobalt legering die gebruikt wordt. Helaas heb ik binnen een jaar en beperkt gebruik dus ook hetzelfde gedonder als veel van de andere Pro modellen: De bolster begint los te laten. Hoewel ik over het staal tevreden ben ga ik nu toch voor een ander merk. Vertrouwen is wel een beetje weg na twee keer kopen twee keer shite. Hebben jullie ervaring en een mening over de messen van Ultima Ratio? Ik heb m'n oog op de Dobermann Classic laten vallen (Beetje het formaat waar je Conan de Rabarber mee ziet zwaaien maar ik ben wel van de grote jetsers). Cheers!

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hoi Jorrit,
      HEEL vervelend van die bolster, vooral gewoon terugsturen naar fallkniven en dan sturen ze je een nieuwe en met de nieuwe run is de bolster vast gelast aan het staal dus hij kan niet meer los. Zeer schofterig van ze en ze willen de prijzen in Europa ook achterlijk hoog hebben.. Dus gewoon terugsturen en een nieuwe vragen want dat doen ze en verwijs desnoods naar ons want wij hebben het ook gehad.
      Ultima ratio is zeker niet een mes wat wij tof vinden en ze gebruiken ook niet het staal waar wij vol van zijn. Als je het niet erg vind om geld uit te geven dan zou ik zeggen: Ga voor een Bark river (Misschien een van de bravo modellen.)

    • @wasbeer77
      @wasbeer77 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm... Geen Ultima Ratio dus voor jullie. Ik vertrouw wel op jullie oordeel, jullie werken vaak genoeg met messen om te weten waar je het over hebt. Een Barkie is dan misschien wel een goeie upgrade inderdaad. Eerst maar even afwachten wat FK gaat doen. Hij komt bij KATO vandaan en die regelen hun zaakjes wel voor de klant, dus vol vertrouwen dat het wel goed komt. Ja man, belachelijk toch die prijsverhoging! Alsof ze al niet duur genoeg waren. Ach, ze zullen misschien wel een beetje omhoog zitten met al die Pro's die terug gestuurd worden intussen. Doet je wel afvragen hoe ze die modellen in eerste instantie getest hebben... Brood smeren? Stokvis feathersticken? Er heel boos naar kijken en er het mantra "HARD USE!! HARD USE!! tegen gillen? Anyone's guess. Hoe dan ook, thanks voor jullie advies en lekker doorgaan met het kanaal, lui! Gegarandeerd kijkplezier altijd!

      @DutchBushcraftKnives  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      hahaha ja dankjewel! Eén ding is wel belangrijk bij bark river, haal het mes of in CPM Cruwear óf CPM 3v! Niet A2, dat is niet heel goed.

    I just got a regular S1. I´m a little bit underwhelmed with the sharpness out of the box. I havent tested it on any real tasks yet in case i want to return it, but it does´nt really cut paper very well and only shaves a little bit. Is that because of the edge geometry maybe? I´m not very good at sharpening (yet), and especially not convexed knives, so I was hoping that it would come very sharp out of the box. I tried stropping it, and it only improved slightly. Any thoughts?

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      mmm sometimes knives get dulled a bit in the shipping/packaging process. Maybe you can ask the shop you bought it at and they might do you a favour. Otherwise don't be afraid to practise. The s1 has enough steel to practise on haha

    • @macbookhylle
      @macbookhylle 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the reply. The shop I bought if from are not gonna help me sharpen it unfortunately. It´s just a sporting goods store. I got it there because I got a gift card for christmas. I would rather practice on a cheap knife, but I guess your right about the steel. Haha.
      Btw, I still havent used it for any real tasks, but the other day I sliced a tomato and an onion with it. After that there was actually a chip in the edge. Suprising that that can happen to a supposedly sturdy knife like this after only slicing a couple of god damn vegetables. Must admit I´m having some doubts. Seeing Survival Lilly´s video on the S1 didn´t help.
      Keep up the awesome work.

    Great Video as always. Ok sorry for asking a similar question again. I am torn between the F1 pro and F1D. Price is nearly the same since the F1 pro is on rebate at the moment. I have the A1 pro but want a smaller knife for finer work. Is the F1 pro able to work as fine due to the thicker blade like the F1D or are they so similar that just the look decides. I prefer the look of the F1 pro

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the F1D will be slightly more nimble for smaller tasks than the F1 pro. Both are excellent knives though. The difference is not too big so of the looks play a big role for you you should pick the F1Pro. The F1D on the other hand is quite a bit less expensive.

    IMHO the convex edge is the best edge for a knife, my blades end up that way naturally by hand sharpening them. Once you have that edge you begin to notice that you rarely get nicks and rolls.
    They should be ashamed of their sheath's, it's absolutely rediculous IMO that a knife in that price range has such a crappy sheath. Another great video guys.
