Dinky restoration of Rolls Royce Phantom V No. 152. Diecast model toy.

- The Meccano company produced the Rolls-Royce Phantom V in the years 1965 - 1977. The model was larger and, as befits a Rolls-Royce, everything opened in it. I received this model from my friend George from England and decided to restore it to its original form. In the video, you can turn on subtitles in your language with a commentary on the action. My model was missing the rear bumper, there was no Nike figure on the grille and two mirrors on the fenders were missing. I made a copy from a model that was screwed together and was in excellent quality. On the occasion of this renovation, I copied two figures of passengers to have them as a spare. I managed to recreate the painting, which seemingly looked like black. In fact, it was a very dark Arabian blue. I also made a box from the first year of production of this model and made new license plates. Thank you for watching the video, I publish videos with car repair on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Lovely job Paul, I remember my brother getting one of those for Christmas. We still have some of our toy cars and we are late 50s. Sadly this was not a survivor. I have been restoring some of mine over the last year. Keep up the good work.

If I may make an observation, pre 1971 UK vehicles had white on black reg numbers, on the sheet you had some in that format, the ‘E’ suffix denotes a 1967 registration. I’d have used those. Excellent video. Keep it up.

Interesting that you mention the original colour being blue despite appearing to be black. I have one of these and can confirm 100%. From a distance and in low light it looks black, but very close up it's clearly blue. It also reveals a fair degree of sloppyness when painting the car, since the raised edges are more blue than the rest - in other words, the paint doesn't properly cover.
From what I've seen on eBay, the shades can vary, most likely due to the paint applied in varying layers of thickness by Dinky.
There was a kit version of this car (Action series) - I got one of these for my birthday way back then... and was sorely disappointed to discover that one half of the bonnet was missing! I made a replacement of cardboard, but of course it didn't help much so the car was crippled right from the beginning.
The kit version was assembled with a screw and one other difference was the paint, being a small "test tube" of cobalt blue Humbrol enamel, so very different from the pre-assembled versions.

large???? this is a TiNY model compared to a 1:18 scale. In your scale, models are too small to have realistic shapes, and usually they have NO openings. What did you do to bring this little thing in as BAD a shape? Did you hit it with a hammer?
