It's so incredible how everything in India is connected. I got this video randomly recommended to me. I am from Puri, Odisha state. My family has been eating red rice for generations. It is called Raktachali here. As far as I can recall, it's first recorded history according to odia tradition dates back to the time of Biswabasu and King Indradyumna, who had to provide Raktachali and dalma in bulk to Sri Vishwakarma Devata himself who came in a carpenter's disguise to create the first ever idols of mahaprabhu Sri Jagannath, Maa Subhadra and Sri Balabhadra. Legend has it that he asked not to be disturbed at all for some days while he works on the idols inside a locked room but the king's wife, Maa Gundicha, couldn't resist and opened the door before the time, only to find Sri Viswakarma Deva gone, the food missing and the idols waiting. Great content. Subscribed.

Wow such a really good video. Lots of helpful information. I looked at the bio basics website and lots of good things they have to offer. I am not sure that they would ship to the United States and what the shipping cost would be. I will check several outlets that I know in Nashville Tennessee and Knoxville Tennessee and Atlanta Georgia to see if it is available in these areas. The online Indian market that I order from does not carry it here in the States. I have bought red rice before not knowing the exact variety of it. Thanks again for your hard work and delightful videos. The recipe certainly looked good. Please stay safe and healthy. Peace, health, and love from Tennessee. Joe Mama.
Mam, rathasaali rice is it better to cook in a pressure cooker or the traditional way of boiling in a vessel..is there a difference in nutritional point of view..
You need to soak this rice overnight. Then you can pressure cook for about three whistles and then keep on sim flame for about 10 minutes. Regards Sujata from Munch and Mull

Too bad this Rakthashali is NOT available here in the Netherlands. 😞 I googled but it's nowhere to be found. I have to say that 71 carbs per 100 gram doesn't sound THAT healthy for diabetics for example.
Rakthashali is a full bran rice. Due to its high fibre content, it's definitely good for diabetics. Diabetes management requires a holistic approach. High fibre diet, avoiding refined sugar, and a physically active life are the key aspects to managing diabetes. Just looking at number of calories is not the way. Fifty to hundred years back, white refined sugar use was very limited, less gadgets meant more physically active life, people had fibre rich organic food. All those are changing today. Requires lifestyle changes. Regards Sujata from Munch and Mull
