I just received my first custom order from Jim Green about a week ago. I ordered barefoot vellies in houston green nubuck and they came out exactly as I ordered and fantastic! I used the same size I use for my other JG boots and the fit was perfect. I have never owned a bespoke pair of boots but I'm glad I paid the extra to get exactly what I wanted.
Now we need a video gallery archive of all the custom boots so that we can see what the different options look like... One video per pair of boots so that it's easy to search on here. Just list the features and do a 360 deg tour of the shoes.

I've been pushing a custom order I've been wanting to make for a couple weeks now because I didn't have time to research all the small things that aren't explained in the website, and weren't explained in dedicated videos. Now I have no more excuses. Thanks Gareth.
My Huston black, Razorback, steel toe, toe cap, red stitching, leather midsole leather and lasting board with eva mini lug. are amazing, loving them. They are a little stiff but that is partly what i wanted
Good day @user-pw3pj1zy4s, thank you for your feedback - we are happy to hear that you are loving your new Razorback Steel Toe Cap boots. Jim Green boots are made from heavy duty components and full grain leathers so some customers can take a good few miles to break them in. The boots should be a tighter fit at first and as you break them in, they will stretch and form to your feet. If you find them particularly stiff, you might try wearing them around the house for short periods of time to break them in gradually. Wishing you many happy Jim Green Miles.
The JG youtube videos are great to understand the details of the boots. The customisation options JG offers are also really fantastic and unique. Just to note a small detail with respect to double lasting. I received my three pair double lasted ordered custom shoes not with an expected yellow calfskin lining, but with what seems to be a thinner layer/lining of the same main leather chosen (full grain smooth/ and rough out) and in the same color. This initially confused me as being only single lasted.....No big deal, as the shoes are of great quality, and possible in my chosen barefoot option. Not many , even high quality much more expensive traditional (custom) handmade shoe/mocassin manufacturers, seem to understand that a barefoot option is kind of an essential structural feature for long term comfort and health of your feet muscles.
Got my barefoot rangers. breaking them in now they are super nice. I see you added steel toe for barefoot. Is the last the same width as the standard barefoot last?
I believe it is a different last more suitable for building an actual steel-toed barefoot boot and not needed for normal toed builds. I just ordered a pair today and had to contact JG to change from zero-drop STC last to the zero-drop last. Every custom order from JG something gets screwed up (usually by me) and I have had to contact the factory. VERY easy people to deal with❤
I ordered custom Stockman's: black leather, standard JG last, olive stitching everywhere, Houston green leather pull tabs, and the mini lug EVA sole! Opted for the standard poly board for midsole and lasting board as I plan to add custom insoles later.
@@dbmail545 there are off-the-shelf solutions for that but it might depend on the website's engine. It does require quite some extra server resources, but it's not a novel concept.
Hello, not sure if you guys ever talked about this but I was wondering if you guys are planning on doing other types of leather "clothes" aswell, like belts or similar. Also I understand that you dont accept returns on custom boots. But what if the wrong leather was used or the eyelets are wrong from what I have ordered? Will I be able to return/exchange them in cases of a mistake on your end? And my last question, are there any plans to add the custom boot builder for the European/German website?
Got a set of barefoot rangers in walnut a few weeks ago and took them on a week long field & mountain hiking trip in the constant rain in the UK and insanely happy with them. They go great stock, but also combine well with my Birkenstock cup halfsole and full length footbeds for a more conventional supportive but still somewhat minimalist fit. I can definitely see myself make a custom boot order in the future, the fit and quality are absolutely worth it and I've been thinking about a set of roughout boots for a while. Has anybody done a Baobab in a roughout spec yet? 🤔
The custom option is the biggest reason I own more than 2 pair of JG's. I'd probably still own the AR8's and African Rangers, but custom options are what keeps me coming back and why I have 4 pair and are most likely going to buy 2 more pair of the 719 when they're available.
Can the Jim Green frog/emboss stamping be done on the toe cap? it would look really cool to have the frog logo on the toe cap instead of the heel counter
The JG custom shop is AWESOME. Just broke in my custom AR8's. I keep checking the website for buffalo hide to become available again. And I decided to order another pair of AR8's on the zero-drop last.
Good day @YanzBra, Thank you for your interest in Jim Green. Unfortunately, this feature is currently only available on our South African and USA websites. If you are located in Australia, you would need to place your custom order through our South African website "Custom Boot Builder"
If you’re on the fence about these boots, get them. I have several pairs included a few custom pairs. Observations to note: the poly woven midsole is much more flexible and lighter than the leather but of course the leather is attractive because it seems like it will last longer (not sure if it actually will). The poly woven midsole is also significantly lower profile. If you’re after something that can be used for casual wear, that’s probably the move. That being said, all my custom Jim greens have the leather midsole. The full grain leathers clean up much nicer than the nubucks. If you want something that you can work on and then clean, condition, and buff and then wear on a date, get a full grain. I do prefer the look of the nubuck though
Do you still have the blue and light red leathers you had at one point on your South Africa site? I think it would be cool to do a multi-color design like the Clark's Tor Run with the African Ranger at some point. I like the new two-tone option, but it would be dope to have the option to use more leathers.
@Sbjweyk thank you for your interest in Jim Green. We are excited to announce that our UK webstore is launching soon and as soon as it's live, you will be able to order your custom boots directly. Stay tuned for updates on the launch date.
Just wondering why is there no composite toe option? Also for the two tone leather, if you say had the razorback and added a leather toe cap. Could you then ask for a different colour leather on the toecap?
Steel toe barefoot boots sound interesting, as does a shank in barefoot boot. I think that may be something I'm interested in buying, but I'm not sure a want to custom order that without seeing some kind of review of that style. Also, did you misspeak, or can you do a composite safety toe?
Do you always change the way you make the boots? I finally received my vellies last week (phew, the ordeal). My pair has a chunk of leather inside above the heel counter, going round, makes the boot unnecessarily thick. And I'm sure it's not the same vellies Rose Anvil cut in half, cause those didn't have that chunk of leather. Confusing.
Thanks for the message and concern. We opted to add this into our Vellie design of recent to give it that extra support and assist the boot keeping shape. Once broken in won’t be that noticeable.
Thank you for the response and explanation. I love the fit of the vellies, the rounded toe is perfect for me, and they fit perfectly even with my slim feet.
@JimGreenFootwearOfficial have there been any custom barefoot Numzaan Boots created yet? If so, would love to see those highlighted in one of the videos!
I'll say it. It's a good service for people who can afford it. I can't afford it. Tesla is a nice car for people who can afford it. I can't afford that either.
Is there any hope of getting JG boots in 4E width one day? In this age of 3D printing, I would think that making custom lasts would be possible. No one makes a quality leather boot in my width anymore. I'm sure I'm not the only one who needs this width. JG would have the market to itself if you offered this service.
Good day @sheckydiamond7533, thank you for your interest in Jim Green. The African Ranger is a popular choice for its balance of comfort, durability, and affordability. It's designed with standard specifications to meet the needs of many customers however, custom boots, are made to the customers exact preferences, requiring additional time, specialized craftsmanship and customization involved this is why there's a price difference between the two.
Nobody needs more than 1 pair of Jim Green boots. You'll own that 1 pair for a lifetime. You could literally sit behind your office desk until retirement, with 1 pair. It's impossible to wear them out walking between the water cooler, the break room, and the conference room.
😅, I think I would be different but it definitely depends on the person. I work in a warehouse kicking thing and walking 10-15 miles a day with the occasional 20-30 miles a day. That said they are almost impossible to beat pound for pound for the value. I usually rotate several boots but I am more looking at a 7-10 year lifespan more due insoles falling apart and most cobblers want $350-400 for new insoles to rebuild. That said it's still a good lifespan for quality boots. You have two-three resoles in a Stitchdown boot. As long as they are worn on concrete and not asphalt most boot soles tend to last a long time.
Would be good. But you can get to it through the South African version of the website, instead of AU or US one. It used to kick you out at point of paying but it doesn't any more. Shipping costs adds a bit, but they are still cheap for full custom. Have not ordered from them yet but planning on it.
