    This is such a great addition to the barefoot options out there! I remember learning about the African Rangers about a year ago and being so tempted despite usually only wearing barefoot shoes. Seeing the development of a barefoot version is more than I could have hoped for! I am really looking forward to getting my hands on a pair of these and finally having a pair of barefoot boots that are rugged, well built, and resolable. Thanks for all your hard work!

    Finally, my search is over! I'm pushing 73 years old. Both my grandfathers were boot makers; one from Germany, the other from Croatia. Both, along with my dad, have instilled in me the passion for quality foot wear and to avoid 97% of the garbage out there. As a believer in the 'barefoot' concept my search is over for the highest quality (unless you outdo yourself and I will be watching you) barefoot boot available. I shared this comment on Rose Anvil, but figured it couldn't hurt to share it here as well: I just placed my order for the Barefoot Boots plus a Freedom Bracelet! Went back-and-forth on the boot color, but ultimately went with Fudge for its patina factor. Huge kudos to Jim Green for reaching out to Rose Anvil, for being open to creating a pretty significant variation on a core product, and for taking the financial risk on pre-manufacturing a reasonably large run of these boots. And huge kudos as well to Weston at Rose Anvil for making such great choices on this boot! As many other commenters have noted, this is exactly what I've been looking for for some time-a genuine work boot that's anatomically shaped and features no heel-ball offset. Thank you to Jim Green and Rose Anvil for bringing this product into the world! Finally, a big thanks to Jim Green as well for continuing to work with the GRAA to get quality boots to rangers on the front lines of vital conservation efforts!🙌🏻

    I've had my eye on the standard, pre-existing version of the Jim Green African Ranger boots for some time but had a couple of reservations about purchasing them. This African Ranger Barefoot version addresses and removes those reservations. The quality upgrade of a leather midsole in this Barefoot version calls out to those of use who prefer as much leather beneath our feet in our boots as possible. The removal of the steel shank not only benefits those of use who prefer as much natural foot movement possible while in a boot but who also have to go through metal detectors at least once in our day that would be frustratingly tripped by a metal shank each time. The lack of a toe stiffener in this boot compared to the non-Barefoot African Rangers is a welcome feature for those crave the wide toebox but without a hard structure brushing against our digits. I've worn barefoot athletic shoes for years but always had to change out of them when attending work or social settings demanding more professional attire. Recruiting Rose Anvil for the designing and constructing of this boot shows how much Jim Green wanted to get the quality and durability of this model right the first time.
    Beyond even the features of this Barefoot model, what finally sold me on these boots was Mr. Crouch conducting the thorn puncture test while wearing the boots himself. I salute a company head who truly does build a product for his customers that he would confidently use himself to protect his own wellness without reservation. Bravo!

    Preserving the silhouette of the upper is really great to see. Both models feel like they have such a utilitarian, no frills, heritage design that makes them feel like they don't *belong* on the trail. It's a sharp looking shoe, and for the humanitarian efforts the brand is involved with, its really difficult to not want a pair around town as well and explain the story behind them.

  • @Manga_Lloyd
    @Manga_Lloyd ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I like that you didn't compromise from the previous African Ranger design for the upper. It's a zero drop boot that looks good but also has thought put into the barefoot design. The sole pattern seems ideal after the tweak to the toe and heel. I love wearing my Red Wing Iron Rangers, but unless I'm actually working in them, I often don't like wearing them because of the size of the heel. I look forward to giving these a go instead. I've got a feeling they will be much better for casual everyday wear.

    I have always loved handmade leather stitchdown-construction boots and fell in love with the Jim Green Razorbacks the first time I saw them in a outdoor shop. Not only does Jim Green make excellent boots at an affordable price when compared to international hand-made leather boot brands such as Nicks and Red Wings, they also continually innovate and come up with new products and variations. The barefoot African Ranger is a perfect example of this where they took a popular boot and gave it a barefoot makeover, which if you are not aware is very sought after in the barefoot community. I could be mistaken but these are possibly the only stitchdown-construction leather barefoot outdoor boots available on the market, and if there are more, they would be significantly more expensive. Well done Jim Green on creating another amazing boot which I am sure will make a number of people very happy!

      Why does a barefoot shoe built for hiking still have to be able to fold in half? I hiked the Appalachian Trail and alot of others. My biggest foot discomfort is rocks punching up thru my running shoes and making my feet sore. I can’t imagine doing 14 mile days… Day after day through the Pennsylvania rocks… Or up here in Alaska on rocky trails, With a 30 to 40 pound pack, and not just feeling like your feet are getting horribly abused in these boots. So, I guess what I’m wondering is… it seems like hyper flexibility of the sole is an essential component of a barefoot shoe. But what if you made a zero drop shoe that actually had good underside foot protection by using a steel shank. That would not be a barefoot shoe, but you still could call it a zero drop shoe. because, the feature of these, that I really like most, bio dynamically, is zero drop. I want zero drop to get my calves, stretched out, prevent lordosis, and protect my low back. But I also want to be able to wear these as a legitimate hiking boot. I don’t think the test he is doing here can be generalized to hiking across-the-board. He’s talking about stepping on pebbles… But in a trail that looks very dusty and sandy in general. When you’re walking across the spines of mountains… You’re almost always on rocks. So, I would prefer to try a zero drop shoe that had more protection like a shank. I kind of feel like they’re mashing together the idea of barefoot with zero drop.

    • @gat569
      @gat569 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@RictorIAG mmm... you think? I think that these boots are heavily influenced and designed (in the sole for sure) by Rose Anvil as a way to appeal to the barefoot shoe craze in North America. I think that they "may" appeal to African Rangers but I have to wonder if the Rangers would primarily be picking the other Ranger boot with the more traditional sole with thicker heel. I don't think that barefoot boot, as designed, is going to be as durable or comfortable for heavy equipment hauling or long treks over difficult terrain. But, it's hard for me to be certain as I don't know what footwear they are used to and maybe they prefer barefoot types (and now that that boot type is available). Jim Green probably has that data. I'm pretty sure the barefoot boot is called an "African Rangers" because it has almost the same upper/shares the lineage/and it's good branding for sales purposes. But what the Rangers actually tend to wear... I don't know. And is Jim Green sending the rangers the regular or the Barefoot when they send the free pair (for 10 purchased)? There is a lot more than just one lens. And my lens would like a shank in the sole. LOL.

      What's worse is they increase the price because it was featured by some celebrity and after they shave off the quality of the products! It is as if they use the money they should use on the product on marketing to pay off those celebs that couldn't care less about the product!

    Hopefully we see y’all at the Dallas safari club convention to show off your beautiful safari foot wear

    Love how these boots are barefoot as there aren't enough barefoot boots out there in the market, the next closest one being from Bearfoot which is almost double in price. Also love your confidence in the puncture resistance of the shoe when you kept the shoe on whilst trying to pierce it with the thorns haha, shows that you really believe in your product.

    I think this is an awesome product. Almost all of the barefoot shoe market is geared towards casual wear or running. The few shoes made for hiking are usually made of synthetic materials or cheap leather. This boot is a big step in the right direction and will open the door for so many others to join the barefoot world.

    This is probably the first time I’ve ever posted a comment, but I just bought a pair of Jim Green Rangers and they are amazing. Being in the Army for the last 16 years and having worn all kinds of boots, I can reliably say that Jim Green are some of the best!
    The barefoot construction here looks like it will actually last and give protection, whereas many other barefoot boots and shoes are less about protection and more about making money on a sock they call a shoe.
    Good job Jim Green for caring about your product and making some of the best I’ve ever had the pleasure of trying!

    I ride horses and endurance race horseback. Because you spend a lot of time off and on the horse running or "Tailing" up steep terrain. This boot looos like a good choice. It's not wide or to deep of a lug on the sole. I'm a US size 11 and I tend to get hung up getting in and out of the stirrup. I had a pair of boots made by Ariat called the Endurance boot. It was comfortable but fell apart really quickly and wasn't rebuildable.

    • @user-cz1gu8nl9o
      @user-cz1gu8nl9o 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I would have never thought to use a barefoot shoe when riding because of worry about feet going through the stirrup and getting caught up.
      Is that really a concern, or do you use those breakaway stirrups? I'm super curious.

    • @agjld7
      @agjld7 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I ride in Endurance stirrups that are 4" deep with Tapaderos. So not a problem. Definitely wouls be in English stirrups and, some western stirrups. Some western stirrups like an Ox Bow are Specifically designed to lock your heels in. Then however, you end up in danger of getting hung up if you fall off. Everything is a compromise. It just depends on your priorities.

    I have looked and looked and looked for barefoot-style leather boots that aren't some urban-stylized wanna-be outdoor boot. I had my sights set on some high-dollar custom boots and the company was bought out and they stopped making the barefoot version. I just watched the Rose Anvil video about your boots and this is what I have been waiting for. Thank you for making a real leather, repairable boot that can last for years.

    I’m a young business owner carpenter in Pennsylvania. I’m trying to extend my active years with focus on back, foot, knee, and hip health. I also love hiking and walking through streams/mountain/snow. I’ve been looking for years for footwear that met my needs and checked all my boxes. Hopefully these are delivered before January, but I think there worth the wait. Make more. Maybe a variation with a small ladder rung indent even a 1/4” would help. You might say to just wear a normal boot but roofers prefer flat soles on slopes and your less likely to mar the shingles. And when I’m kneeling down all day the top of the toe gets a lot of scratches/wear in all my boots try it and tell me what part of the shoe rubs the ground the top fragile leather. If you need any other ideas let me know.

    Great product and a solid test in my old KZN stamping ground. That thorn test is impressive and reassuring, - I've still got a sensitive spot on my left heel after a US-made barefoot boot failed to stop one of those wicked acacia thorns on a bush walk a while back.
    I'm so pleased Jim Green has entered the barefoot boot market. I wore several of your boots for over a decade before reluctantly leaving them behind when I transitioned to barefoot-style footwear about five years ago. Now, it looks like I'll be able to wear Jim Green again! It'll be great to support a South African company and, through your donation program, the vital work of African rangers.

    A lot of barefoot shoes are constructed more like sneakers than traditional dress shoes or boots. Even those that are marketed as either dress shoes or boots are constructed like sneakers more often than not. It's good to see a genuine barefoot boot hit the market. I hope this style of boot will remain a consistent item you keep available for sale.

    I’m 2 weeks in and extremely happy with my pair. I feel so much more stable and my lower body joint pains are slowly feeling better. One thing I didn’t think about until I realized that I don’t look at the ground as much while I walk since my gate is more confident. That has helped my posture a lot. Just an interesting side effect to going barefoot. Next up is the barefoot troopers. Keep it up guys.

    I like how this is a barefoot that I wouldn't hesitate taking out into the desert. The barefoot shoes I have now... I see a large pebble and say nope I'm walking around that. A tougher sole sounds awesome.
