I upgraded my Lenovo Ideapad 320 17IKB (80XM) by replacing the existing 4GB sodimm stick to a 16GB DDR4 Sodimm Corsair Vengeance PC3200. It works like a charm. Windows 10 now detects a total of 20GB of ram.
if you have a ddr3L only you can add 8GB extra, the other person had a DDR4 model and that is why he could add a 16gb. this video the laptop is a DDR3L model ram. you can't fit a DDR4 on a ddr3 slot. so check 1st to see if you have a ddr3 or ddr4 version.

🫠Regarding your question, that is normal. The laptop will automatically adjust to the maximum RAM speed it can handle. The higher the RAM capacity, the motherboard may slightly decrease the MHz. You don't have the XMP option in the BIOS to set the maximum speed; this feature is typically available only on high-end laptops or PC motherboards. when you replace the HDD (all your windows and files are there) you have two options: #1. clone the your hard drive to the SSD ( you conserve everything) but you have to get a bigger SSD if your HDD its 500gb you have to get a 1tb ssd to clone. and you will need a sata adapter to connect the ssd to the computer and use a cloning program: Macrium Reflect amzn.to/3OqMKkF #2. its the easy comparing to #1. after changing to ssd you won't have any windows or files or anything, so you have to fresh install windows 10: th-cam.com/video/uDu8j2lE-dM/w-d-xo.html then once you have the usb set plug in to your laptop and power on and quickly press f12 and choose the usb and and then follow the simple step of installation and you will have the windows set in 10min see any of the windows installation for a guide. th-cam.com/video/oQ7NiirV4JQ/w-d-xo.html and you can use the old HDD to convert it to external storage by buying this and then copy your data back to ssd: this: amzn.to/3tNaJT3 or this: amzn.to/3Oc0lMX

@@uFixTek thanks 😁 just loving your replies to all the questions even though the video is old. Just yesterday I got my laptop checked and cleaned. He said battery might have 2 issues, either the battery is not in good condition anymore so needs a replacement or it might be the board needing IO repair works that's causing the battery to drain so quickly, like not even going 1hr with full charge. So I'm waiting on that first, if my battery issue gets resolved, I'll buy a ram and an SSD, and he'll put my hdd on odd side with new caddy. I've 4 soldered Ram and I don't think upgrading it to 6gb will work for me, I think I need more ram, from total of 8(4+4) to 20(16+4), I can't decide. SSD, can I go for 128 version because I just need OS and some softwares installed on it?🤔 Or if it's less, 250 maybe? I'm hesitant to Max it all out because of processor. My max requirement from this laptop is casual gaming with friends, wish Alex legends, fortnite, or valorant could just run on it atleast decently. He also said I'm having hinge problem but it's fine for now, don't need spending 😥
It's my pleasure my friend to help no matter how old the video may be. get a new battery, it is not the board issue. the battery after 1year they start degrading. if you have 4gb on board get a 16gb for a total 20gb i highly recommend you to get a ssd brand SAMSUNG EVO a 1TB, that way the durability will be excellent. if you open the screen always from the center of the LCD and not from one side, that way you will spread the pressure on both hinges and that way it will last longer. here is an idea of what it can happen if you don't lube and or lessen up the nut of the hinge (just ask him to loosen the NUT of the hinges about half turn) it should be free, its not rocket silence.
In my commands, i checked the maximum capacity and it says that it can handle 16gb DDR3L, but in the lenovo page it says that it can't handle beyond 8gb. What do I do? I want the 16gb
🫠Regarding your question, if it says 16gb then place a 16gb DDR3L make sure it is L, and it will work remember 1st boot can take up to 35sec before you see anything on display. most of the info that they provide is false on the brand website, like lenovo or hp or asus say that you can have 1tb nvme storage where it is a pci-e lane and you can place 4tb without any issues. same goes for rams. Yeah I had this POS machine and the upgrade did nothing to improve it. This was the worst purchase I ever made back in 2018. I had nothing but issues with that piece of junk machine. It was the slowest hunk of junk I have ever owned, lagged more than actually did anything and eventually ended up getting cracked in half across my knee with very litter effort, and is on its way to the landfill. I even tried upgrading the RAM and did nothing more to increase performance. My mother recently upgraded her laptop, and gave me her old one. I am using a 10 year old gateway NV53A from 2010 that has more power and stability than that POS sorry excuse for a laptop. I installed more RAM and bought a new battery pack for it and it works fantastic! I will never own a Lenovo product as long as I live, THAT is for sure!

But it only shows 1066mhz even when I upgraded it to a sodimm 8GB 2400mhz? Are there any way to increase it?
🫠Regarding your question, that is normal. The laptop will automatically adjust to the maximum RAM speed it can handle. The higher the RAM capacity, the motherboard may slightly decrease the MHz. You don't have the XMP option in the BIOS to set the maximum speed; this feature is typically available only on high-end laptops or PC motherboards.

@@uFixTek would that delete all my files & data after upgrading a new HDD/SSD?????
when you replace the HDD (all your windows and files are there) you have two options:
#1. clone the your hard drive to the SSD ( you conserve everything) but you have to get a bigger SSD if your HDD its 500gb you have to get a 1tb ssd to clone. and you will need a sata adapter to connect the ssd to the computer and use a cloning program: Macrium Reflect
amzn.to/3OqMKkF
#2. its the easy comparing to #1. after changing to ssd you won't have any windows or files or anything, so you have to fresh install windows 10:
th-cam.com/video/uDu8j2lE-dM/w-d-xo.html
then once you have the usb set plug in to your laptop and power on and quickly press f12 and choose the usb and and then follow the simple step of installation and you will have the windows set in 10min see any of the windows installation for a guide.

He also said I'm having hinge problem but it's fine for now, don't need spending 😥

get a new battery, it is not the board issue. the battery after 1year they start degrading.
if you have 4gb on board get a 16gb for a total 20gb
i highly recommend you to get a ssd brand SAMSUNG EVO a 1TB, that way the durability will be excellent.
if you open the screen always from the center of the LCD and not from one side, that way you will spread the pressure on both hinges and that way it will last longer.
here is an idea of what it can happen if you don't lube and or lessen up the nut of the hinge (just ask him to loosen the NUT of the hinges about half turn) it should be free, its not rocket silence.

regarding your question: don't go with what the manual says, if you want to know your max ram capacity check this short video, and base on what you can have , you need to remove the cover and see if you have the ram soldered on board and one Free dim available, im assuming you have 8gb so you may have this 8GB soldered on board and an extra dimm free, if so and your max ram capacity is 16gb just get a 8GB and place it there and it will work.

the one ram dim is soldered on board but the system detects as two dim, on the next dim you can place a 16gb sdram ddr4. + the onboard 4GB = 20GB if you hadn't had the 4gb soldered you could of gone 16gb x2 total 32gb

The only thing that will not make the DDR3 compatible with laptops would be:

then you want to type the following in the CMD:
wmic memphysical get maxcapacity, memorydevices
this is my toshiba laptop: imgur.com/a/pv5G238
and it will give you "MaxCapacity" and "MemoryDevices" the capacity is in kilobytes and memory device is just to let you know you have two DIM or 4 or 1 dim on your motherboard.
to convert kilobytes to GB : shorturl.at/airvF
I'm very sure the max allowed is 16gb but i would not go anywhere over 16gb on a celeron CPU as its useless you wont use it. remember more ram doesn't mean faster laptop, i would recommend you to upgrade your HDD to SSD:

much appreciate the support my friend, Regarding the RAM upgrade, I don't recommend it if you want to speed up your laptop. The main bottleneck of your laptop is actually the HDD that you have. I suggest replacing it with an SSD and performing a fresh install of Windows. You will notice a significant improvement in performance after this upgrade. If you find that you still need more RAM to open large files and run multiple tabs on your browser, then you can consider a RAM upgrade later.

@@uFixTek amazing and thanks very much 🙏🏼
anytime my friend 🍻
Is this a ddr4 or ddr5?
Regarding your question, if you watch the video i clearly mentioned the dame model and type and even mentioned that i have linked compatible rams in the video description!
@4:30
this ram is SDRAM DDR3L
cheers🍻
@@uFixTek thanks for the response. I am having trouble finding 16gb RAM in ddr3. Do they only have 8gb?
you won't find a 16gb sdram ddr3L.
ddr3 normal won't work has to be ddr3L
max are 8GB
@@uFixTek I have one last question. Thank you again for your patience and prompt response. Do you have a video of how to transfer windows and data from hdd drive to ssd drive for a laptop? Thank you
sure get this:
amzn.to/42LbRXC
and connect the ssd to the laptop and download "NOT" pirated version of "Macrium Reflect" not from "thepiratebay.org"
and clone your HDD to SSD.

hello UFIXTEX
what is the speed of the ram in this lenovo laptop?
Edit: you earned a sub
Thank you for the feedback! if you wish to support the channel you can LIKE or SUB or both :P
regarding your question: much appreciate for the support, the ram is max : 1600MHz
remember this are intel CPU the ram speed its not an importance for intel cpu:
unless you have a AMD CPU then sure.
but if you want to improve performance upgrade the HDD to SSD then you will have your jaw dropped :P
th-cam.com/video/kAwc7XqUnis/w-d-xo.html
@@uFixTek i also liked and subbed and also if i buy 8 gb 2666 mhz will my pc boot or will it show 1600 mhz (because i cant find 8 gb 1600mhz in my country)
yes it will the bios will downgrade the speed to the speed that your motherboard can handle. you should have no issue, just make sure it's a DDR3L if it has no L don't get it , L= low voltage.
@@uFixTek i only have ddr4
oki then place that ddr4 ram. but i recommend you to upgrade the hdd to ssd
I thought my lenovo idea pad 320 would have the same socket in your video so I bought a ddr3 4gb ram when I opened it it was a ddr4 socket : ( great video anyway
so if any of you are a beginner in upgrading like me
check your specs or go to a repair shop
and let him check the right ram for you
Oh boi im sorry , you may have 320 series but the new versions, you can always ask me here any questions that you may have and give me the exact model number and i be happy to assist you.
Thank you!

@UFIXTEK I ordered the RAM, will arrive Wednesday, I'll watch again as I install it. Thanks again
awesome i wish you the best, if anything let me know.
how to upgrade the cpu processor of this lp
no my friend the CPU is soldered on board its not upgradable.
It's pretty bad that you can only replace one memory module. Because one is integrated.
yes it is very unfortunate that they soldered the ram on board. :(

I will never own a Lenovo product as long as I live, THAT is for sure!
this laptop i would call it a tablet with keyboard and bigger LCD, but for those that need a really cheap portable it does the office job, it may not go for heavy work but for internet and home work it does the job.
thanks g
