Glad to see another cb radio being installed. People NEED to get back into cb radios. If the cell towers stopped working, we could still communicate especially in emergency situations. Plus, it's safer to talk on a cb radio than on a cell phone.
I was a welder/fabricator for 13 years. The jaw jacking is nothing new to me. I'm in my third week of trucking on my own. Love it. There is situations where a cb can be helpful. Purchasing one today. Great video.
My 21 year old son just got his CDL from Central Tech in OK and got his first job with Werner. He gets his kenworth truck today and I asked him if it had a CB and he said no he has to buy one. I'm going to send him your video, thank you for sharing.
Congratulations to your son!!! We wish him all the best. The first year can be tough. Kevin started with Werner. There’s lots of resources in our video library to help flatten your son’s learning curve. All the best…
I just purchased the same CB as yours in my T680 KW and had the same problem,a Blown fuse. Now I need to connect the old CB up again just to see if it's still alive because I thought it died on me. Thanks to your video I found the fuse box,too because I couldn't find it. Lol Thanks !!
11 meter band is fun for the people who have long trips and like to have conversations with other people, CB radios are amazing and fun, a little tricky to install because it is not a plug and play as it is advertised, you have to get your unit calibrated the closest to 11 meter of cable with antena, so you'll get maximum output and long range of receiving. Great video!! 👍
Good job Kevin. Youll either love it or hate it. Ive been thru a few radios over the years and a bit of aggravation. Wish more new drivers would use em. Sure helps for warning about road conditions in bad weather, accidents , holdups Etc. The CB saved my butt more than once.
That's what we are thinking! We heard one theory that new drivers don't use them so much because now they can socialize by calling family and friends on their cell phones. But that won't help them get any warnings about upcoming issues!!!
Yes the new school CB radio is text, twitter and facebook haha. The CB is an invaluable tool for us out here. When an Interstate closes cause of a bad wreck the local drivers usually rattler off alternate routes around it. The only only guys left sitting in traffics snarls are the drivers without a CB. Some guys have em but dont turn em on. That i cam never figure out
Mine is sitting at home on a shelf in the garage. I got tired of all the bickering and foulness on it. Then you got the guys that love to hear themselves talk, so they clog the channel chatting about nothing. The cb has been dying for 20 years but still manages to hang on.
Yes ,it can be a useful tool in knowing when traffic/ road conditions / weather get bad . The foul language and violent threats that some drivers use towards one another is a reason to keep the CB off most of the time.
Always read the manual and check your SWR (Standing Wave Ratio) when installing a CB in ANY vehicle. Some radios like the LT-29 have a switch to test the SWR and a knob to adjust it to the lowest ratio possible if the SWR is too high you can "Burn out" the circuitry in the radio. I have been using and installing CBs since the mid-1970s (started installing when I was 14 when my dad bought our first radio from RadioShack) when you had to apply for and receive an FCC license.
I don't know if anyone has said anything about it but check your SWR level on your antenna system. When you were talking the antenna warning light flashing. Most times that comes on at an swr of 2.1-1 or greater. This is bad and will hurt your radio over time. Hope your radio is still working and your still trucking. This is the first video of this channel I have seen, that I'm aware of. ✌️
A tip on fuses....You can use a 5.99 voltage testor (the one that looks like a screwdrive with a light bulb in it and a single wire) to test the fuses. I you look closely at the colored plastic bit on the fuse, you will see a small portion of the metal exposed so you can leave it in place and just touch it with the pointy end of the volt tester and if the tester lights up...You are GTG. If no light on the tester, then fuse is toast. Cappiche>
I actually just bought a cobra handheld CB and a cobra 29 mobile that I plan on eventually making a base station for my home I ain’t a truck driver but I love radios
Just fyi, by default t680s need key power for cb to get power. One think to watch for is the plastic peg on the mic to break after a while. Nothing better than hitting a bumb and having the mic fall and hit you in the face. I reccomend getting a retractable hangar or a mic with a metal peg. I have had 3 break on me after about a year.
3:47 into the video and I spotted something you did "wrong". When you put the wire through and wrap it, wrap it clockwise so when you tighten the nut onto the wire it pulls and tightens the wire rather than pushing it out. If you know the proper way to install electrical outlets at home, you know what I'm talking about. It still works but it's best to do it this way.
I Love you guys. I start at Roadmasters on Monday, have been hired by Werner. Could you please do a video about must have items for new OTR drivers. Thank you. ❤️
Hey MiniGreens! Congratulations! Awesome! You can check products we recommend down in the description. Also, check out our playlists. Products we recommend and What to pack for going out with your trainer. That should give you lots of info! Good luck and let us know how it goes!
❤ & enjoyed your vid very much brother. Had me cracking up 😂.. (use the right tools for the job) meanwhile you’re using leather man funny shit bro. Thanks for sharing. Been trucking for Empire merchants Brooklyn NY for the past 26 yrs. I think I can do 20 more God willing. 😅. Best wishes brother Stay safe God bless!! Peace!
If you never used a cb radio before, you’ll be in for quite a shock with all the foulness that’s on it these days. Your family friendly content will be tainted if you record any activity from it.
Thanks for the video, I have one just like yours , but when I push the mic the antena lights up red, how can I check if the antenna cable is working, thanks
Ours lights up red too. We don’t think that’s a problem. We think it means you’re talking. Have you done a radio check? At a truck stop just speak into mike and ask for a radio check. Try it a few times. If someone answers you’re good to go. Otherwise maybe try a CB radio shop. We don’t know more than what we showed you in the video. Sorry.
@@TheJoyofTruckingMy Cobra 29 did the same thing before it bit the dust so it should be okay..never had any problems with others hearing me but the range wasn’t that good
if you want. a really good cb radio get a galaxy 98 hp that radio does 200 watts straight out of the radio and you might want to get a good antenna monkey made is a good antenna that antenna will hold a lot of. power and you might want to purchase an external speaker so you can hear your radio a lot louder
My 2025 t680 has the antenna mounted on the back of the sleeper with 1 pointing up and 1 pointing down so I converted it to just 1 antenna facing the right direction but the swr’s are thru the roof🤬🤬
Haven’t actually heard that yet. But lots of foul language, mumbling with static, and a few good helpful things. But…we think it’s an important piece of safety equipment. Especially in winter.

hey Kevin you need an SWR meter to tune your radio to the antenna without that, you can burn up the radio
Thanks!
Check in instructions on how to set SWR this is pretty important to get any range.

Red is + Positive , Black is - ground for negative

I am glad he works for Warner. He is a box of rocks. I strongly recommend you go work for swift.
He’s now working at Crete actually. 😃
Maybe try matching your cb to the antennas
That leatherman you got there has wire strippers in it
Thank you for sharing! It was a great help!
Nice job now you're a real trucker. Lol, why weiner wagon? BTW what's the rope hanging down for?
That rope would be your air horn
@@Chrismctaw I thought the horn was on the left side by the window on most trucks
Wiener Wagon is a jokey name for Werner. The woven leather strap is on the right if driver and it’s for the air horn. :-))
Brother, thats what the red and black knobs are for?? Confused the heck out of me 😅

Question for Kevin, why did he chose a Kenworth instead of a freightliner?
Or any other brand
He likes the power, the brand, the big table, the windows, the smoother ride.
I should put one in my jeep just for looks..lol
Lol!!! And several big antennae!!!! Picturing it now! Love it!!
