Had a cb in my vehicle since 19 years old. Til it shot shit on me. I'm 26 now. Grandpa passed away recently and he was really into cb too so I went through his old cb stuff and am gunna get it set up in my truck. I think he'd be happy I was helping keep cb alive among citizens and not just truckers.
early 90s my uncle set me up with a 200 watt base station and a 40 foot fiberglass antenna. Neighbors used to say they could hear me on their TVs and radios Haha
Before I was born my dad had a base station in the house. Said it had an awesome mic(D104?). Also had three power linears and a Moon Raker antenna. Love all the videos Rick.
I remember the Moonraker and have heard of the Mic. I was a teenager..... I was able to get a Pace 123A for cutting grass for a summer for a man.. He purchased it for me before I ever started cutting the lawn. I did a good job for him! I got a great deal!!! I forget the name of the cool mobile antenna one must have,,,
LOL, I was thinking more Smokey and the Bandit when I saw you had a CB. Forgot about the Dukes of Hazard. You will have some fun with that PA system. Thanks for sharing😃
Could have also ran into the fuse box with an extra fuse and fuse holder so it would not drain the battery out. Ground the negative.... Great job tho! 👍🏾 perfect open spot for the speaker!!! Hilarious when the wire starts smoking priceless😂💭 nice video thanks
Got the same one in my Silverado...one great radio. I am using an really nice aux speaker I got at the truck stop...really improves the audio (less tinny sounding). I do need to wire up a PA horn.
Thats nice brother I just hooked me one up to yesterday $20... Police sirens and voice👍🏾 but I don't use the sirens unless I'm teasing friends in a remote area💪🏾😉👍🏾Nice Boss
the other question, when pushing wires through the firewall grommet wouldn't be better to make a new hole rather than push the existing grommet to one side? just thinking about gaps being created.
Rick Mammana cheers, I've never had the need till now to runs wires so basically researching how to route them on here and on RAM forums. i read recently that there is a blanking plate where a clutch pedal would have been in these trucks. i got the CB bug after decades ( literally ) of last using one, currently soldered the CB to cigar plug which i heard most people frown on, hence wanting to do the proper wired method. keep up the good work.
got a few old cb radios i collected up and a few iffy antennas ...i clicked on your video about the pa horn iv never owned one lol going to put out with a old palomar tx-150b i bought off a guy also a youtuber ....might order horn too that payle is a cheap one that can be found on amazon ....well cool video!
You should have had a cb radio with a swr meter, frequency counter,& 102" cb radio Antenna in my opinion. I'm going to get a Gallery Dx 979,102" antenna Whip,& other CB radio accessories
I added a using his advice, it work.i used the bed pocket insert, ground wire straight to the battery even scraped the contact points where the bottom plate touches. Still getting out around 4 miles here in Mississippi.
No one monitors CB Channel 9 anymore. Today it's just an open channel received for emergencies. Some use it like marine Channel 16 for emergencies and a calling channel then they switch to an open channel.
I've got a 29 Classic in my pickup with a Rebel 400 kicker on a 8 1/2 ft. antenna. That and a grounding strap were the only things that would bring my SWR's down. You could also run your antenna cable through the boot behind your seat so that you wouldn't have to have it going out your door. Did you get your radio peaked and tuned(radio shops call it P&T)? Also, you may want to think about instead of using the stock mic, pick up a Road King 56 (RK56) or an Astatic mic. They are noise-cancelling mics. Also, if you can't run the antenna cable without any corals in it, then run it back and forth. If corals are left, they can mess with your SWR's. You'll have to get yourself a good kicker so that you are not completely run over by someone who can be heard wall-to-wall and tree-top tall. Lol! Have fun with it. I'm sure you'll hear a few lot lizard and west coast turn-around advertisements.
+Matt Overstreet Thanks! I didn't know I had a boot behind the seat. I'll check that out. Yeah I tuned it with an swr meter that I had from years ago. I was looking into a mic and better antenna. Thanks Again! 👍😃👍
Ha, that's too funny! How true! I was big time into CB radio back in the day when I was a teenager (1977). After all these years later - five grown kids and three grandchildren, I've just secretly purchased a brand new 5' fire Stik, and 40 ch. President Mckinley ssb with all the fix'ns lol! I have not told my wife as of yet, and am planning to keep her far away from the house when my packages arrive later this week (July 24, 2020) just before our 40th wedding anniversary 😬! The best part is - I'm going to install the rig in our (her) Town & Country Mini Van! 😀😆😅🤣😂😭 This could make or break our anniversary date that's coming up on July 26th!!! Merc'a this is the Pink Panther XM12-31113 on the side with the most bodacious station in the nation reporting wall to wall tree top tall from Western Canada eh! Is that a roger and a big 10-4? This is the Lamplighter 2020 on the side! Catch you on the flip side! Keep your rabbit ears on for an up date as to how my wife's anniversary present goes over! Cheers👍😎
+londonoalex Yeah i should have showed that. I didnt make any holes, i used and exsiting hole and I used 2 big hose clamps wrapped around a beam under there. It's still on and tight.
Great video, subscribing now. So...I was into this scene back before C.W. McCall made everyone get interested in it. Back when you called people "Good Buddy" (well, east o the Mississippi anyway). Got a question...would be real interested in seeing the SWR thing; I got a "Workman" from Amazon, and I am using an old Realistic radio I found in my basement with a magnetic mount like yours, but I can't seem to get the SWR down below 2.25. Any thoughts? I heard an eight inch cable tied coil of the Coax might do it around the base of the mag mount. But, I'm bummed. All channels I'm below 3, but only just. But if all else fails, I may get that Pro 520 myself; 7 watts of power seems kinda...goooooood...
Thanks! Yeah I was using CBs since the 70s too. I've heard some truck stops will tune your antenna for you. ? Nit sure about the 8 inch cable, try it. The pro 520 sounds good though. Thanks again!
Decent cb, crappy antenna. Had a roadpro mag mount centerload. Within a year the ground wire on the mag puck came apart and the spring at the bottom has bare copper wire that with any movement will start fraying. With that being said, probably should have had your antenna tuned.
Pretty loud. Good job, a real product. You did a pretty good job installing it and hearing it. But it’s only 7 watts, which sounds like a low power, which would mean low dB rating. They all seem to fall quiet after 3 miles depending on environmental factors and electrical interference. Now if you peak and tune a radio or add a little more output wink wink it can make it clearer and louder at those further distances. A basic legal radio that has not been messed with and running barefoot, I find it super hard to believe that any would carry more than 6 miles no matter the antenna on a vehicle. With the exception of a wide open area with minimal electrical interference, high profile vehicles such as 18 wheelers or in regards to base stations that have antennas 20+ feet in the air. I've burned up a lot of gas doing countless tests, obviously terrain has a lot to do with it and I can only vouch for my area. All of the tests were conducted as mobile to mobile, not mobile to base. Granted mobile to base may have different results because they are so high up they are likely to pickup more transmissions at greater distances. Dont get me wrong I like bigger antennas and I think they receive better but you cant always reach the person you hear especially if they are running extra power and your not. All I'm saying is the cheap antennas are not as bad as some may think and from the looks of it, it appears he bought a tram which between that and the midland 18-2442 they are probably better than the scosche ones you get from Walmart. I do think given that he has a compact radio which probably doesn't do as much output as a full size radio that maybe he should have gone a tad bit bigger but to each his own. brings back memories, my ex was a log truck driver, no cellphones , we had a base at home and that's how we communicated, thank you for the video
+Sherri Castor Yes I remember that so well . My dad too!
This video was perfect. No hype bs intro an no fancy modifications. With this video I'm making the leap into CB.
early 90s my uncle set me up with a 200 watt base station and a 40 foot fiberglass antenna. Neighbors used to say they could hear me on their TVs and radios Haha
Awesome! Finally found an install video that was simplified and to the point, much appreciated!
Before I was born my dad had a base station in the house. Said it had an awesome mic(D104?). Also had three power linears and a Moon Raker antenna. Love all the videos Rick.
+Joshua Hannah Nice! Thank you very much!
Joshua Hannah in my opinion the D 104 base Mic is the best base Mic you can have.same with the antenna.
I remember the Moonraker and have heard of the Mic. I was a teenager..... I was able to get a Pace 123A for cutting grass for a summer for a man.. He purchased it for me before I ever started cutting the lawn. I did a good job for him! I got a great deal!!! I forget the name of the cool mobile antenna one must have,,,
of all the videos ive seen this has been the most helpful. thank you for your help and patience. great video simple and straight to the point.
Great! I'm glad I could help.
Very cool! My hubby was telling stories of when he and his family had the CB Radios when he was growing up. Looks like you were having fun.
+Randi's Delights and More Yeah its fun! :)
That's a big 10-4, Rick!👍🏻
Just ordered a kit to install in my Ram 2500. Same radio. Really excited. Your video was so helpful and FUNNY!
+Deana Rouse I'm glad you liked it! 😃👍
Cool video! You're quite a character and I enjoyed it. Thanks for posting!
LOL, I was thinking more Smokey and the Bandit when I saw you had a CB. Forgot about the Dukes of Hazard. You will have some fun with that PA system. Thanks for sharing😃
+Christy's Cooking Channel Yeah I thought about the bandit too. Fun.

I'm installing a CB in my Jeep tomorrow. Needed a refresher course. Thanks!
I was planning on doing the same with my WJ, pa system and all.
@@driceproductions5304 oh! I hope you do. I enjoy having mine installed. I love my Jeep!
Lmfao your accent “lotta wyrs en deer” love it man haha
+justforthetv 👍😎👍

That's cool!
i have the Cobra 29.... great radio
the other question, when pushing wires through the firewall grommet wouldn't be better to make a new hole rather than push the existing grommet to one side? just thinking about gaps being created.
+Frederickdawg Yeah you can make your own hole there. I'm not sure what the vent is for. I can't find any info about it.
Frederickdawg Ok that sounds great! Yes that probably is a clutch hole that was plugged up. CB'S are cool. I'm glad they're coming back.
Rick Mammana you gave me the inspiration, did the install today same place as you put your CB. thanks.
I started to install one on my 97 f150 but need the whips to come yet. Those things are to much fun!!!!
Great! They are fun.
Just a little advice glue a piece of shop towel then trim it to size so if the antenna gets slid on paint it won't scratch it
Excellent Idea!!
got a few old cb radios i collected up and a few iffy antennas ...i clicked on your video about the pa horn iv never owned one lol going to put out with a old palomar tx-150b i bought off a guy also a youtuber ....might order horn too that payle is a cheap one that can be found on amazon ....well cool video!
Video gave me tips on how to install a CB in my Dodge Caravan. Thank you!
Glad if I could help. Thanks for watching!
Sir. This was the BEST video I found for this. THANK YOU…. Utube dad. :)))
I'm glad that you liked it! Thanks for watching. :)
This made me miss my cb, happy for you 😀
+candy lee Thanks! They were fun huh.
I have a cobra 29 that's all digital. Fun stuff!
+Marc Fillhart Nice, yeah it is fun.
10-4 brother Rick! love the video, very cool CB.
+Joe Brown Thanks! :) :)
Never operate a CB Radio without the antenna,in some cases it can fry the radio.
you got that right !
not bad but since you put the screws in the middle of the pilot slit on the bracket if it gets loose it may slide around that half inch slit.
You should have had a cb radio with a swr meter, frequency counter,& 102" cb radio Antenna in my opinion. I'm going to get a Gallery Dx 979,102" antenna Whip,& other CB radio accessories
Do you come through your speakers in your door.
can't wait to see you install one in the CADILLAC
+sandy smith Oh I forgot about my Cadillac. :)
U r so cool.and only been watching for 2 min
hope it fits better than that girdle thing you bought for the front

I added a using his advice, it work.i used the bed pocket insert, ground wire straight to the battery even scraped the contact points where the bottom plate touches. Still getting out around 4 miles here in Mississippi.

Awesome!! Still have that radio?? Tell us how she performed.
Yes I still have it and use it often. Still works like new.
Rick Mammana That’s great! Same magnet mount antenna?
Yes!
You be crazy!! Fun and informative video though . Thanks.
Thanks for the video
Excellent.
cool truck did the cb radio work good rick
thanks for the video. huge help

No one monitors CB Channel 9 anymore. Today it's just an open channel received for emergencies. Some use it like marine Channel 16 for emergencies and a calling channel then they switch to an open channel.
Yes I found that out during the winter. I was stuck in a ditch in a storm with 5 other cars and no one responded on that channel.

Do you think 3M tape would hold up the unit?
It sure would.
So did you go beside the grommet??
Or I poked a hole through it. I'll have to watch again and see what I said. It's been a few years.
Wife said I can't get a PA for my truck. That basically means that I can, as long as she can't see it and I don't swipe a card to purchase it.
👍😎👍

Nice truck
Awesome video. Keep up the awesome work
+Mitch Trujillo Thanks! Glad you liked it! :)
Is that a basic alarm horn? I seen a guy with dozens and he wanted 5$ a piece. Should I just connect like 5 horns or go with a megaphone
The P.A. speaker is sold as that. It was pretty cheap. Any speaker would work but you want it to be weatherproof.
now make just you don't leave your radio on when you leave the truck lol because the way you hooked it up will leave you stranded somewhere.
Did u use a swr after all
how do you tune
You need an swr meter. But there are other ways if you have 2 cb radios. There are instructions online. Thanks for watching.
it would have been nice to see how you screwed into the PA speaker. Never deal with making holes in metal
+londonoalex Yeah i should have showed that. I didnt make any holes, i used and exsiting hole and I used 2 big hose clamps wrapped around a beam under there. It's still on and tight.
Very nice setup you have there. How do you like the CB horn that you installed?
I still like it alot. Still works good! Thanks for watching!
anyone figure what that vent hole is used for?
Frederickdawg drivers thermostat for automatic dual climate control
maybe 1/4 watt. display will half burn out with first mic key. thing won't get out past the bumper. dang unidont
thank you
Cool video
How's the PA horn holdin up? I want to install one aswell.
It's still holding up and working good. It's been a couple years now. Thanks for watching!
Looks good!
+Tommy Walker Thanks! Fun.
Cool video! You should put train horns on your truck.
+Marshall H. Yes I looked at them yesterday. :)

It's not 7 watts. If it was it would be illegal. Legally 4 watts max by the FCC. I'm sure you could open it and tune the output but not legally.
That was fun :)
I would of shocked the shit out of myself for sure 10-4 good buddy lol
+Tender Heart Ahhhh

For the pa you didn’t do any amplifier right? My radio is 4 watts and has a pa feature I just need to know what all I need.
No I just connected a speaker to the pa output on the radio.
Rick Mammana thanks for the fast response even years later lol. Is it loud enough to hear over a running engine?
@@jacobbrooks549 Oh yeah. I can hear it good.
Rick Mammana ok thanks for the info 👍🏻
You do Hot Logic videos?
Yes I have a few, here is my Hot Logic Playlist. th-cam.com/play/PLXR5NwSN71WlH6jdkmVj552GSjtSLY-m7.html
I love it l love it lol
I guess his cb sign is Roscoe talking to 219
+scott watts :)
I hope he used an swr meter before he tried the radio
I plug mine into the cigarette lighter !
That's easy!

Buy a magnetic mic for your vehice it's safer

1st And yes I was quicker then the other guy (That part was edited)
Pretty loud.
Good job, a real product.
You did a pretty good job installing it and hearing it.
But it’s only 7 watts, which sounds like a low power, which would mean low dB rating.
Also, you were so shaky, were you in a rush, or nervous, or have ET disorder?
I haven’t seen other people like that on here.
You probably needed more oxygen.
Anyway, it’s a true product with no joke.
Get a real antenna you'll do much better
Add a switch
That's one of the worst antennas out the brotha. Get yourself a Wilson 1000 mag mount. Your not gonna really reach anyone with that thing.
I thought that too until I actually tested on my cobra 29, they actually dont do bad considering the $20 price tag. With the 29 I got out 5 miles or so, compared to a bigger antenna which only increased to 6 miles. If people want to get on the radio on a budget dont discourage them, it's a fun hobby and everyone has their own path. He did say temporary so maybe he plans on getting another antenna down the road, who knows. It's just fun to see someone enjoy it even if it's at a low cost.
