Thank you for making this. I love the old Star Wars lore from before the original trilogy and even before the prequel trilogy. It's fascinating and infinitely expansive, vast, and grand. I'd been looking for a video like this one for a while now and you delivered it phenomenally. Your presentation is perfectly enthused and you speak seriously enough that it's believable even though it's a sci-fi fiction tale. You just did such a good job on this. Thank you
This is quite a work, the amount of time and effort put into reading, games, and anywhere else you got this information to put it into a timeline is staggering.
The most unrealistic part of Star Wars isn't the alien species, or the monoecology planets, or the Jedi/Sith, or the technology... it's the idea that a democracy this bloated and populated would last more than five minutes before devolving into civil war and chaos that would make Syria look stable.
This isn’t true at all the only thing that needs to happen to prevent a civil war is keeping media companies from fear mongering and spreading lies about political opponents.
As a relatively new Star Wars fan, thanks for this channel and your content. This great deep lore, politics and world building is why I love Lucas era Star Wars more than disney star wars. I pretty much stick with that and EU books now. So awesome. Can't believe some people actually bemoaned the prequels for politics and world building when all they lacked was good writing.
Meanwhile the Hutts are just like "er hello!? We've been around since before the Republic!" And then the Gree are like "pft we've been here since the Rakatan Infinite Empire."
@@loremasterxp3635and even then the Rakatans also lasted for quite a while too. They were also around for 10,000 years. It was only when they finished the Star Forge when their empire began to crumble due to the Star Forge feeding off their natural aggressive tendencies and then the Plague hit and stripped all Rakatans of their Force abilities, effectively making all of their technology useless and leaving them vulnerable to slave rebellions. The few who survived fled to their homeworld where the wars did not stop. The Rakatans we see in KOTOR are a mere shadow of their former selves, and eventually they would go extinct entirely.
@@therealspeedwagon1451 True. Though to contest that last bit the Rakata actually survived, but as we see in SWTOR they're merely low tech barbarians content on butchering each other. Thanks for the shoutout to the LS Sith! Honestly, the expansion or at times reexpansion of the Sith and their code during the TOR period to include more honorable, pragmatic, and at times light leaning Sith was my favorite part of the MMO. No matter how corrupt it can be. Like I've always told people, if I fought for the Republic during the Clone Wars, I would still fight for it. But after Order 66, I would resign. Because in the end, neither the Republic nor Separatists won.
It took the Sith working from the shadows over a thousand years to bring down the Galactic Republic from within. That's how monolithic the Republic was.

Disney would ruin the Old Republic, best thing they can do now is jump ahead a thousand or so years getting well clear of their burning dumpster fire until they can no longer smell the smoke & see the glow of the flames. I remember being shocked when I learned of the genocide committed on the Sith by the Republic, and how it then made sense why all the Sith we see are fueled by hatred and fear and other negative emotions. By trying to destroy the biggest threat to the Republic, they only made an immortal enemy that would always come back, and eventually destroy it completely (in Palpatine and the Clone Wars).

I like to think that Coruscant was, at one point, Earth, and that deep underneath all of its layered cities, the original, real-life homeworld of humanity lay dormant.
@@rushpatriot2866 absolutely. Coruscant is humanity's homeworld in Star Wars, and while the two timelines of real life and Star Wars are obviously different, Coruscant's original history is so legendary and mysterious that to imagine it as Earth in its very first days wouldn't be a significant stretch. The only differing factor would be the wars between the ancient humans and the Taungs, a species which gave rise to Mandalorian culture before humans took it up; but to address them, I would identify the Taungs with chimpanzees or gorillas, who, through some Planet of the Apes-esque circumstances, began a war with their more advanced human relatives. The Taungs are said to have been simian creatures, and while they purportedly had grey skin, flat faces, and tentacled heads, with so much of Coruscant's history shrouded in legend, it wouldn't be a stretch to think that they could have just been Planet of the Apes-style intelligent apes. Which would also mean that Mandalorian culture was made by intelligent chimpanzees.

You all seem to forget GL was adamant and vocal since the beginning that the EU was its own canon and seperate from the movies, even licensed products like the games where b canon and EU was c canon where as the movies where A canon so if the movies contradicted anything from the other canons the movies would still be correct to its own canon.
The EU was never actually canon.
Nice pfp. For Gondor!
@@UrialTheDarkOne yet people will continue to call it the official canon because for them it is superior to what Disney made official canon.
Thank you
Same.
I love how there is this much lore in star wars I never knew there was this much until I discovered this video and channel.
This is quite a work, the amount of time and effort put into reading, games, and anywhere else you got this information to put it into a timeline is staggering.
2 and a half hours of SW Legends lore... goddamn this will be good
The most unrealistic part of Star Wars isn't the alien species, or the monoecology planets, or the Jedi/Sith, or the technology... it's the idea that a democracy this bloated and populated would last more than five minutes before devolving into civil war and chaos that would make Syria look stable.
The Republic's internal conflicts usually keep to system v system and don't spill out into the overarching Republic itself
Surprising it nearly lasted ten thousand years before its first civil war then.
Imperium: "We have lasted for 10,000 years!"
Galactic Republic: "Cute. Try reach 25,000 years, scrub."
Hah but the difference is that the imperium is more like the empire
Probably the most violent & evil species in the galaxy, & considering the infamous cruelty & oppressiveness of the Hutts that's really saying something.
Thanks for the shoutout to the LS Sith! Honestly, the expansion or at times reexpansion of the Sith and their code during the TOR period to include more honorable, pragmatic, and at times light leaning Sith was my favorite part of the MMO. Very excited to see how the MMO ends, or if they'll keep it open ended in such a way that acknowledges player choice
Everybody's gangster until vacuum breathing space dragons interrupt your space war.
The more I learn about the true history of Star Wars, the more I despise Disney.
You don’t need a reason to despise them. It’s a multi billion dollar corporation ran by ideologues who call you evil for not consuming their products.
Same
Disney had all the lore and source material of the past 50 YEARS! They could of made the 3 movies follow the legacy of the force books and it would of been amazing.
Hell they could of made a animated version of the early republic based on fannon.
@spaceengineeringempire4086 nah they will ruin it those stories aren't for lil kids and small minded people
@@alsimmonshellspawn6021You see there is no pleasing SW fans, movies are never as good as books and so many fans would have rioted over it.
i love how the sum up of this is
"the sith tried to conquer the republic for 40000000 years through conquest but never could, but darth plaguies and sideous managed todo so by using capitalism!

Actually they used leftism: the accumulation and centralization of power
@@emeryoldham48 not really. Leftism is just generally any spectrum of leftist ideology (i.e. social equality/egalitarianism)
What Palpatine did with the empire was nationalization and authoritarian/dictatorial structures, those systems of government however stand seperate to political systems. Both Fascism as extreme Rightwing and Socialism as extreme leftwing were at times authoritarian. Hell, you could even say Centrism was Autocratic through the system of Monarchism.
Beyond that, Palpatine only really started nationalization of key sectors after he took power, which in the original 1970's star wars was a critique to the rapid buildup and political intertwine of the military industrial complex in the US under president Richard Nixon due to the vietnam war
@@TheGamingSyndrom so basically, socialism > communism > tyranny. Even happens in made up space stuff.

Coming across this in my notifications, sure was a pleasant surprise. I love listening to your videos. Especially when I'm painting my minis and playing video games. I remember subscribing in late 2019, I'm glad I've been around to see this channel improve in quality. I love your longer videos, and this will hold me over for a while as I won't be able to listen to the whole thing at once. Keep up the great work, and may the force be with you
I loved this series when it came. I always did like learning history. Even learning history from fictional worlds and factions. Plus I always loved learning how the Republic came to be. No matter how corrupt it can be. Like I've always told people, if I fought for the Republic during the Clone Wars, I would still fight for it. But after Order 66, I would resign. Because in the end, neither the Republic nor Separatists won.
When a youtuber makes a two and half hour documentary on galatic history and it ends up being 25,000 times better than the sequel movies
It took the Sith working from the shadows over a thousand years to bring down the Galactic Republic from within. That's how monolithic the Republic was.
Man Disney is the worst thing to happen to Star Wars we will probably never get good movies that go into this lore
Filoni doesn't care about continuity consistency character progression development depth stakes philosophy world building creativity inspiration
I swear the entire republic history is just a case of the Republic being invaded, then barely winning before the galaxy goes 'But wait! There's more! :D'
I've honestly slowly but surely become a Star Wars expert with all your videos I've been binge watching
The pious dea era has always fascinated me.
@Geetsly's You should continue to the next chapter in this series. you should delve into the prequel era and so on explain the republic's fall and the empires rise, idk i think that would be an interesting video IMO. Just a completion of the star wars universe in this series, i think you did a wonderful job in compiling all the videos together keep up the great work im a loyal viewer and fan. May the force be with you, always...
Man the old republic really didnt mess around, they exterminated more worlds than palpatine couldve even dreamed of
With lore this good, there is no excuse for the films..... brilliant content - Subscribed
Disney would ruin the Old Republic, best thing they can do now is jump ahead a thousand or so years getting well clear of their burning dumpster fire until they can no longer smell the smoke & see the glow of the flames. Then it would be a simple matter of actually creating good Star Wars content with people that actually like & respect the franchise, people like the actual FOUNDER.
@@loremasterxp3635With lore this dense it’s impossible to write a single plot point without contradicting something already established causing fans to freak out which is why George sold the IP to begin with because he could have made more money making more movies himself but the fans gave him ptsd from doing so.
I'm guessing "vast swathes" is Geetsly's favourite phrase
21:00 The Legions of Jared Lettow.. Tragic Fate 😔

On of my favourite videos on TH-cam, so great but ad breaks every 3 minutes is insane
I fell asleep and now i will be hearing about the republic again
Freedon nadd wasn't even alive anymore in 2400 BBY. He died between 4400 and 4300 BBY. That was a misspell from your side, i believe. Otherwise it is a great Video

2:33:33 hours of republic lore, nice touch.
Could you do a video of what happens just after the Emperor Dies? How the different moffs move around vying for power, how the rebellion becomes the new republic, and all the new systems that change hands in that chaotic short period. I know it would have to be a 2 part video of this one is canon and this one is not, but um... please? I hope that works! great vids btw. I love em all.
I would love some hours-long videos about the old post-Endor Galactic Civil War stuff in Legends. God knows there's enough there to fill hundreds more video essays, and the period is truly fascinating. Like the Warring States period analogue for this space fantasy version of China.
Pretty hilarious to say a civilization lasted 25 thousand years when they are currently in a state of perpetual war. Makes the whole idea that civilizations that possess interstellar travel but yet still fight over local resources even sillier. I do love Star Wars but they have no clue or no respect for the size of a galaxy.
The current state of the galaxy is a result of the collapse of the Republic, largely political
Doing the Forces work by making us these videos, thank you very much and hopefully they keep coming!!
Yes! Yes! Yes! This is the kind of content I LOVE! I absolutely love long form content and while I know not allot of people will be able to sit through the whole thing, you have my accolades for still commencing with this undertaking. Thank You So Much, for taking the time to make this even if you know you won't get many views due to its longer nature. Out of all the channels that survived my subscription purge, I'm most pleased about keeping my sub to this one; I'll admit I don't often tune into the Disney Canon content but Legends Lore I'll immediately drop anything for and tune in.

So been looking forward to this compilation video since you started this history series. No I didn’t know this video was coming, but still look forward to more ancient Star Wars history videos you put out.
(Yes, I have been taking notes on my computer while watching, just like I was back in a college history class. I am that nerd. Lol)
Lol can you make a link for those of us who can’t watch the whole video (would love to, but don’t have enough time 😢)
All of this just makes me hate Kathleen Kennedy even more. She torched this massive pool of lore to give her writers "freedom," then dared to make the excuse that "they didn't have anything to draw from," when things started to bomb. Great video, though, and makes me want to see about running a TTRPG in one of the lesser known eras.

its very clear that they were either A, so incompetent they didnt even bother to look at what they just spent 6 billion on, or B just did not care. probably C, both those things. they took the biggest franchise in human history, and killed it in about 6 years. rather impressive if you think about it

Finally the algorith does something right, how did it know i needed an extensive history of SW at 1:30 am while I cant sleep.
I will never tire of hearing about Revan. the one being in history to use the dark side without succumbing to it. He was in full control of his mind, fully aware of the dark sides pull, but still used it as a tool to save the galaxy.
Definantly one of the best videos one can find about star wars lore, been waiting for such a video for years now since legends just got so much stuff, and here it is. Loving it. So detailed, sound quality is like listening to an audio book. Just pure perfection
This is the Star Wars lore i didn't know i needed
something about the lore of fantasy/scifi puts me to sleep. i’ve been dreaming that someone would make the essential star wars chronology an audiobook. this is even better.

Yea, the difference is Pius Dea is wrong, and the Imperium is correct. When you cry out to purge the alien whether or not the Alien is a Wookie and a Tyranid hive fleet makes a significant difference.
Imagine the amount of stuff from legends this guy had to go through to make this video. This is amazing.
I know right! It's basically the reason i'm loathe to critique all of it's inaccuracies as it probably took dozens or more hours to compile.
I saw the length of this video and thought, “damn, this is a long a$$ video… I have to watch this because that must mean he’s not leaving much out!!”
Really appreciate the time and effort you put into this. 👊🏾🍻
The only flaw in the lore is the true sith empire not attacking right after the triumvirate nearly wiped out the Jedi and the republic. It was the golden opportunity to take them out in a single year.
@@atk9989 perhaps they hadn't built up their military yet. Vitiate, with his centuries long plans, might have hoped the Jedi civil war would be a slow burn, but Revan heated things ups real fast, and then the insanity of the Triumvirate...

I like to think that Coruscant was, at one point, Earth, and that deep underneath all of its layered cities, the original, real-life homeworld of humanity lay dormant.
It'd be such a cool concept to explore. Similar to the anime made in the abyss. I'd watch a star wars show like that
@@rushpatriot2866 absolutely.
Shoutout to the Cadians making an appearance, it's good to know even in the star wars galaxy, Cadia Stands.
Yess i love the history of the republic thanks for making a longer version of it
There’s such a huge timeline that writers at Disney could be working with but they continue to use the same 70 year timespan from anikans founding to Rey’s final words in rise of skywalker. Please Disney, go back, given us prehistoric Star Wars for Christ sake.
