- Well, this is almost only the keyboard track. I posted this to mainly help people learn the keyboard portion of the song.

The best thing is that you can actually tell that was played by a human from begin to end

@@shegy2006 yes in 2:27 he accidentaly just touched a note more, just slightly. :D and from 3:20 to 3:23 he rushed that part and fcked little up but not so much noticeable. You can cleary hear that it is played by a human being

That’s the reason I looked this video up. I was listening to the song and heard some cool synth in the background during the solo and wanted to hear it more clearly.
The drums of this part are even cooler!..
You can feel the randomness that those sweet analog keyboards introduced into the sound. So great, so magic
Yes you can indeed, especially during the really fast runs near the end of the solo (which are actually guitar tapping parts arranged back to keys) - the machine sounds like it's glitching out. It makes it sound kinda sloppu, but I don't think it's his fault, the machine was randomizing like crazy (not so noticeable in the full mix, however).
You can hear the mistakes, proving that he is in fact, human.

No one ever gets that syncopated rhythm right....Very cool transition that gets buried under an iconic guitar solo
Being all on the black keys I play that part using a flat finger technique I’ve seen Glenn Gould use, it works quite nicely.
The part I find most difficult is the turn around in the last bar of the triplets in the solo. (GDC, GDC, GDC, G)
You have to get into a groove for 5 bars pf 16th note triplets and unintuitivly switch directions on the middle of the phrase.
I nail it sometimes but usually just opt for the easier methods of continuing the same pattern and turning the last 6 notes into 8th notes.
It’s a tricky bit of music overall that sounds simple on the surface but has a complex rhythm in practice.
Weird opinion but for me it was the prechorus with how weird it was

2:48 always liked rush and prog rock but when i was at the gym, heard those low notes and it changed my view of music, it blew my mind and now not only I like rush but also I like van halen, Van halen is probably the greatest guitarrist and also a great keyboard player

Missing the secondary key track
By listening to it isolated, it sounds so much more real and you can tell that eddie is innovative with keys and that it is eddie playing because he plays it like he does a guitar in that he looks to get sounds and effects you might not associate with the instrument. He creates an excellent musical theme. When the riff returns after the chorus, it almost sounds like a bell chiming as the riff is in a much higher register. You would miss this due to the drums and vocals and bass. The riff also sounds much thicker in isolation without the other parts
Eddie was a musical genius and a truly gifted man. RIP Eddie

Your comment made me check it out with a daw. There's definitely some weird Eddie/Alex feel going on with the intro which has always driven me nuts, so I made a tempo chart to prove you right. Turns out, the bass note begins on one and the chord falls on the 2 as expected, and the riff is fully in 4/4, has no pickup bar and never turns around. What makes it weird sounding then, besides the syncopation? My theory is that since the four drum/bass accents begin on the & of four, with the bass melody it has thrown me off for a long time. The second accent lands on one and the third lands on the & of one. The fourth accent lands on two at the same time as the chord riff repeats, so it feels like on the one when it's actually on two. The tempo of the intro floats between 130 and 136 and even jumps from 130 to 141(!) during Alex's rushed intro fill. Miraculously, the band returns exactly to 130bpm after the rushed fill. The brothers played so well together that it actually makes me cry.

I gotta say if this is the actual studio recording of the part, I feel 100x's better about my keyboard playing. In the whole song it sounds amazing, but by its self, you can hear the mistakes and the sloppiness throughout.

This is actually two tracks that have been put into one. The prechorus and rhythm section that plays during the guitar solo is a separate track than the main keyboard riff.
