@@cloud0598 I think you would get an argument from the one you DON'T marry as they are the bromance made in heaven. And hell. However, whoever you leave behind I would grab up in a heartbeat!
The running joke in the book is that every tape/CD in every car eventually turns into a Queen album. Also, this show is REALLY close to the book with very few differences.
fun fact, Neil Gaiman, who co wrote the book with Terry Prachett, also adapted the book for the show, and was the showrunner. You won't find a closer adaption to a writers vision anywhere
Neil Gaiman said in the director's commentary for this episode that the actor who played Adam's father just loved being able to call David Tennant "doctor" :-). They put several Dr Who references in the series: watch for the license plate number on Adam's father's car when it shows up again in episode 6, and the actor who played Strax has a brief cameo in one of the later episodes.
Nina Sosanya who plays Sister Mary Loquacious was also in Doctor Who as the mother in 'Fear Her' (she was also Will's mother in 'His Dark Materials'). :)
Neil Gaiman who co-wrote Good Omens also wrote "The Doctors Wife". He also created "Lucifer" and while I think Tennant was good in this, Tom Ellis would have rocked it even harder.
Along with The Boys and His Dark Materials, Good Omens was one of the most surprising yet amazing TV shows to have come out last year. Both David Tennant and Michael Sheen are a iconic match made in heaven (and hell!) Also, Neil Gaiman, who co-created Good Omens with Terry Pratchett, also wrote for Doctor Who with both The Doctor's Wife and Nightmare in Silver.
The Boys isn't as perfect as it's made out o be and Good Omens while conceptually and initially pretty interesting and entertaining, kind off loses its pace, novelty and overall quality continuously after Episode 3, though definitely not by any fault of its actors...
@Kono Mono I mean, I can't really expand on what I've said since it's been a while since I watched the show, though you probably wouldn't care or be able to counter argue except for disagreeing. I just felt it got pretty samey and plothole ridden, kind of tropey and schmaltzy ...
Both John Hamm and Nick Offerman were huge fans of the book and asked to be a part of the show, if I remember correctly. I know Hamm has said that Good Omens was the book that taught him how to read for pleasure.
OH GOD I completely forgot the snake thing for this one somehow!! I’m so sorry 😂😂 but I’m glad you enjoyed the rest of it. Michael Sheen (Aziraphale) and David Tennant are such a power house combo, I love them. They’re amazing. The rest of the cast are great as well I think, but they really are such a great pair to focus on. As a fan of the book, it’s also a really a nice adaptation, but I also think it works really well on its own. Reaaally looking forward to the rest of this.
Pretty sure that aside from the snake-eyes that Crowley has, you don't see him in his snake-form anymore. I'd almost forgotten your snake phobia, but then I remembered 'His Dark Materials'. Funnily enough, speaking of which, the guy with the snake daemon (the actor Ariyon Bakare) that you hated in that show is one of the main demons in 'Good Omens' (the one with the frogs on his head, Ligur).
I was surprised how much was carried over verbatim from the novel. It uses the same digressional trick as Douglas Adams tended to use in the 'Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy' and Pratchett, in particular, tended to add footnotes all over the place to expand on or explain certain things.
Great choice! This was an excellent adaptation that was incredibly faithful to the book (with the exception of Jon Hamm's character, but his character was still an excellent addition to the series so it's all good). The TV series was very much done as a tribute to the late Terry Pratchett by Neil Gaiman, who co-wrote the original book with Pratchett.
I have a lot of Feelings about both the book and series. The book was exactly what High School Me needed, and the series was very nearly everything I wanted in an adaptation and then some. Completely worth waiting this long for. (Fun Fact: In the book Crowley's the one who revives the dove, but 'get into the car' blocking meant they had to switch it around here.)
Her: I wonder what kind if relationship they have... Me: THEY ARE IN LOVE!!! INEFFABLE HUSBANDS FOREVER!!!!! Also, don’t worry, Crowley(not Crawley), doesn’t turn into a snake again.
This is the first reaction I've watched of yours; I see why you have so many likes and subscribers! You are very genuine and say what so many of us are thinking...love it! Thank you!!!
Aw hell yeah, I was wondering if you were going to do this fantastic show (I didn't know about the polls oops) Edit: oh god Crowley is a snake, sorry Jess
One of the running jokes both in the TV show and the book, is that Adam and his friends (and Dog) mirror a series of children books popular in the UK between 1930 and the 1980s, known as the "William" books. The main character is William (10 year old boy) and his friends, Ginger, Douglas and Henry and their dog, Jumble.
What's this? Good Omens? HELL YEAH! And it's short, so maybe poor ol' Being Human UK can win next time. I voted for both of them, so I'm happy either way. ;)
I'm still hoping for either Dark or Mr. Robot cause I know she would looove those shows, but they don't have giant fandoms behind them so I don't think it'll happen 😭😭😭
I'm praying Jess gets to do Being Human (UK) at some point - I can't believe nobody's touched it for a reaction yet. I'm sure she'd LOVE the characters!
This is what you get when you get two great writers working together, Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaimen and two great actors David Tennant and Martin Sheen.
Glad you liked it. To be honest, as a huge fan of Terry Pratchett books, I had been worried as to how it would translate to the screen, but it was reasonably faithful to the storyline, and even more so to the spirit of the novel. If anything, the first episode was possibly the weakest of an otherwise excellent series - probably because it is much harder to establish the storyline on screen than it was in the book. Having got the introduction out of the way, the remaining episodes flowed much more smoothly. Assuming that you watch the rest, enjoy! 🙂
When I thought I couldn't love David Tennant more than I did already, I watched this and I was proven wrong. Even with snake eyes he looks hot, mother of God, forgive me for I have sinned
Also (one more thing then I will shush :p) Crowley and Aziraphale's relationship is just... it's the heart of the whole show, and Tennant and Sheen's chemistry is so so good. I can'timagine any of it working so well with anyone else now. A big part of the beautiful humor is how they're sort of just moving through this epic ...stuff, but the focus is how they're so in love with all the small things about existence they don't want to lose. Like, yes, armageddon is imminent, sure, important, drama, but ...*heartclutch * MORE IMPORTANTLY, they had crepes!
I totally forgot about the snake (and not sure I remembered that you were afraid of them) but I'm so glad you didn't just quit on us. The deadpan quality of the writing matches with Terry Pratchett so well that it nearly might as well be fully lifted from the books. I believe that the narrations are. VERY excited to see the rest of these!
Okay, I may have just squeaked a little at seeing that you're reacting to this. This became my favourite TV show and I binged it in like a day. Aziraphale is also my fav tv character ever.
I love Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, and David Tennant. I really like the book. I thought this show was OK. Pratchett's work is one of those things that works best in print. All of the video adaptations of his works are ok, but none are groundbreaking. Still, worth a reaction. I sure don't regret watching it.
Loved watching your reaction and hearing your thoughts as someone who was unfamiliar with the story! Looking forward to watching your reactions for the other episodes!

Not every car - just Crowley’s bentley. And it’s specifically after a fortnight (two weeks)
As for the nature of Crowley and Aziraphale's relationship, Neil Gaiman has said this is a love story.
fun fact, Neil Gaiman, who co wrote the book with Terry Prachett, also adapted the book for the show, and was the showrunner. You won't find a closer adaption to a writers vision anywhere
He promised that to Pratchett before the latter’s death
And where thing had to be cut, he cut his parts if at all possible.
The chemistry between Sheen and Tennant is just perfect i this show.
