QNAP TR-004 4 Bay--I plan on purchasing one of these and eventually using four 18TB hard drives using RAID 1. Will there be a problem if I start with two drives initially and eventually add the other two?
Could someone please explain when I would want to use "individual" as opposed to RAID 1
I bought a TR-004 QNAP and with new drives?! but can't be recognized or read [Unknown File System!?]? The only answer it gives after rebuilding the RAID (forwhat if un readable?) it unrecognized in Windows Explorer and even the QNAP External RAID manager. I trusted QNAP
Hi, klyanadkmorr.
Sorry to hear that your experiencing this.
It sounds like the TR-004 may not be formatted with a Windows compatible file system. You may want to reference our full TR-00x series tutorial at 3:25 (th-cam.com/video/6u3ylwBRzPc/w-d-xo.html) to help format this unit for Windows. If this doesn't help, we encourage you to create a support ticket here: service.qnap.com/en-us/home
Can it be connected directly to a television
hi there! Thanks for the video, I liked it a lot. I have a question, I am connecting a TR-002 that has a USB-C 3.2 gen 2 port (10Gbps) and I am connecting it to a 2020 iMac 27" (the latest model with an Intel chip) through one of the four ports USB-A (not one of the 2 USB-C thunderbolt). I did the speed test and it gave me 120 MBps writing and 150 MBps reading. Is this ok or should it be faster? If I connect it from USB-C (thurnderbolt) to the USB-C of the Mac (I don't have a cable, I would have to buy one) would it be faster? I would like if you could help me understand this well, I was expecting a little more transfer speed to be honest. Thank you!
Hi, Martin.
Thank you for your question. In this case your bottleneck is not the connection type. The numbers you are getting are fairly typical of a TR-002 configured with HDDs in a RAID 1. QNAP tested the TR-002 with two Samsung 850 Pro SSDs in RAID 0 (NTFS file system connecting to a PC) at 469 MB/s read and 452.1 MB/s write, so that’s the high end of what’s possible with the unit. The biggest factor here is the drives. And then RAID 0 is faster than RAID 1 as well, although there is no redundancy with RAID 0 so if either drive fails the data would be gone from both drives. Using a faster cable probably wouldn’t improve your numbers here. When it comes to connections like 10GbE or USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10GbE), or Thunderbolt™, etc., you can kind of view it like the size of a freeway, in that if there’s a wider freeway, that can give cars the opportunity to drive faster by alleviating traffic, but there is a point when it doesn’t matter how wide the freeway is, it just matters how fast the car can drive. In this analogy you could kind of view the drives in the TR-002 as your car’s engine. There can be other factors as well with various servers, but in your setup the key variables for speed are the drives and RAID configuration.
Does it matter if Erp is enabled or disabled in Bios for this device when Pc is off?
The TR-004 has a timer, and if no data is accessed for a while it will go into standby mode, so ErP settings on the PC don't affect it.
TR-004, the more expensive model, being only 3 Gbps (SATA-II) compared compared to the 2-bay version being *double* that is very unfortunate. I need 4 bays but wang SATA-III speeds, and since QNAP doesn’t offer such a 4-bay 6 Gbps USB-C DAS device, canceling the release of TR-104C, had to go with another brand.
What brand did you go with?
@@PatrickDSimpson i have same question :/ i cannot choose any good one
Greet product❤🧡
Press that button, I dare you LOL
One button press away from my kids erasing all my drives. That’s a design flaw right there. At least for home users.
This is an excellent idea to show new products and go over features. However, two things: as an IT admin for multiple companies I cannot stand any piece of equipment with an external power supply. It’s just messy. Also, the dude narrating sounds like he just got off a surfboard and hit a few before sleeping in the van man. Another narrator please.
Hi, James. Thank you for your feedback. For many of our larger models we do use an internal power supply, but for some of our smaller consumer models, in order to keep the build compact and more easily fit in smaller spaces we occasionally have models with an external power supply.
