It’s great to get an update after you’ve had the unit for so long. I’m really interested to see how the Rep Adonis compares to this. If I was to get one of these, I’d consider using the Darko Voodoo for low rows and as a leg holder rather than the Prime solutions.
@@BasementBrandonthe constant evolution of the equipment in this space. What I love most about the prime is the dual 1:1 & 1:2 ratios in the same piece of equipment. That’s where the price is justified. What’s your take on the stray dog ATRs? I just added a single stack to the side of my rack
That's twice as much as what my entire 3"x3" 6 post rack with plate storage and high/low plate-load pulleys. Nothing could convince me that's worth the expense for a home gym.
I would agree, this is way down the lists on things I'd suggest for a home gym, but I am at a point where a lot of the stuff I own is more "nice but not necessary"
I've had mine for a while now and I have to say I am completely disappointed in it. It's bulky, the adjustable part is clunky. When I got it, it was delivered and it was already damaged. I wanted it replaced and the company was not very helpful. I feel the pulley is also NOT very smooth compared to other pulley machines out there. Overall, I would not buy again
Their wheel design for replacing plastic guides for the plates just is not smooth for whatever reason. Tried one of these at another guy’s house and it was night and day compared to a bolt fitness pulldown which was buttery smooth.
@@BrandonSchwartz1 the sad thing is I was going to buy the bolt fitness one at the time but ended up going with this because I wanted quality (or perceived quality). Would have saved a ton of money too... If I had to go back, I'd probably get one of the new rep fitness functional trainers
Sorry to hear that, I the only issue I had with mine was one of the plastic spacers between plates came broken but they got one out to me really quick.
I could prob do an initial impressions so far. I haven't dove in deep to a lot of the damper stuff, the app, or attaching it to a barbell. But I really really like it. The biggest issue is due to the price point and long term feasability, I don't think I could recommend it to 99% of people.
Q1:With the low row cable being a 2to1 ratio as opposed to the lat pulldown being a 1to1 ratio, do you find yourself maxing out on low rows? Q2:Can you fit 45lb plates using the bare steel pin or does the weight shield get in the way? - if not what is the max amount of weight you can fit on it? Q3:Have you tried something like the rogue solo pulley attachment and attaching it to the lat pull down cable to make it 1to1?
q1: I don't think I've used the full stack but by the time I get to those movements I'm already a few movements deep and tend to be aiming for higher rep work. q2. I believe so but can test q3. I have not.
@@BasementBrandon @TheXILLR The Rogue Solo won't work on the original Prime Single stack that doesnt have the side holes. But it will work on the updated one they have now. My opinion on this machine is its very hard to do everything right but i think its best for Back and Tricep work. It also is good for some Shoulder and few other things. I also have the Step up platform which I use for a few Leg exercises. I like this machine a lot.
One of the first reviews to point out anything negative with what I'd call the "commercial bougie brands." There seems to be such a huge bias towards them that anything they make must be better because it costs more. Good to see a dose of reality here.
Great review!! Yeah there are a few more options now compared to 3 years ago. I mainly bought for a replacement lat pulldown and to use the low row, but I paid so much for it, I’ll never sell.
I have a Rhino in my rack for pulldowns and other cable exercises and feel like it works quite well. I've often wondered if something like a Voltra would provide an equivalent cable exercise experience, or if maybe rigging up a couple could mimic a functional trainer, but I was shocked when I saw the price of those things. You could probably do something like HomeGymHangout with a couple of Rogue CT-1s and some storage in between by the time you paid for a couple of the Voltras. That's probably an exaggeration, but maybe not a huge exaggeration. I guess a limiting factor of the CT-1s could be the height.
Hey you should review the Pegasus from rep and see if it fixes the issues you had with the seat on the prime single stack. I also think you’d like the bull dog pad function of the Pegasus
" All rubbing points are fully rubbed, ... and trust me, I'm lubed out." Oh, I trust you. Keep it up another year and you'll start going blind like the rest of us.
The overcomplicated bearing set up on the guide rods is on all of the older strive equipment as well and everyone I have picked up used or tried made the same noise. Not sure about the newer prime selectorized equipment as the set up with the add on weights for the stack looks different and is probably not noisy.
for the height handle issue, i have the same issue with another machine, i used a bolt instead of a carabiner to connect a long bar to the top ring and it worked perfectly to my height, but at an expense of 2 minutes every training session i needed it
I know you love your Rogue rack. If you had both the Rogue and Rep rack today, like you did a few years ago, how much harder would it be to get rid of thr Rep knowing all the equipment they keep innovating to buid upon it, compared to Rogue who has been lacking?
I'm not sure to be honest. I use my extra space in my current rack for so many other things, I don't think I'd want a cable system inside it. Especially seeing how people seem to be annoyed with the REP trolleys and cabling.
@@BasementBrandon Fair point about being able to do more work in the rack without the cable systems in the way. I am probably thinking even more about the constant innovation from Rep and how in a few years they will keep innovating in the home gym space and it seems like Rogue is not focused on that market as much.
Been waiting for these vids for a while. I'm actually surprised on some of the annoyances you mentioned. I would too be annoyed with the echo from the metal shield.
You can probably quiet the frame down by choking it with a strap. Same way as if youd choke a cymbal. Just ask someone to squeeze the frame while you do the exercise and youll see if itll work.
Few issues there. The machine itself only has up to 190lbs of selctorized weight, the rest has to be plate loaded. The machine also is fairly short at 83" tall and will not have a full ROM for a lot of people. It also doesn't have an adjustable cable column.
The Beyond Power Voltra has a band peg attachment, do you know if it is compatible with the band peg on the Prime HLP for doing more eccentric overload? Coop from GGR used his Voltra on his Rogue Rhino, but I haven’t heard of the Voltra being used in addition to a weight stack for instances where you might want even more weight in the eccentric.
I have never heard of Legend fitness before, but I took a quick look at the website and they have some nice stuff. I need a nice new dumbbell rack for my gym and they seem to have some nice ones. It seems you have to ask for a quote though as the prices are not listed on the website.
maybe if you use my promo code you would buy it again lol good review! I still love mine but I also use my FT for other cable work as it is smoother than the single stack. I only use it for latpulldown and low row and other options out there are taller than this one which doesnt work for my space.
Is there any benefit to using these v-type roller bearings on guide rod vs. the more traditional linear ball bearing or sliding plastic bearings? Or why do you think Prime went with it?
@@BasementBrandon Ok, thanks anyways! I don't recall having seen others use that design, so it just seems odd considering multiple people commenting on the noise.
Uff really expensive stuff. I have the ATX Trinity Tower. Its less than half of the price of this one and can everything this one can do and even more.
I think it just depends. Typically made in USA is more expensive than made in China. This has a better footprint IMO than the ATX. You also get 50lbs more on the stack. The ATX is also not available to us here yet.
@@BasementBrandon Sadly it still will take time until ATX will be in the USA. Regarding the stack it’s impossible to move 135kg. I’ve tried hard (I am 110kg heavy and have been training for 20 years) but it’s way more than 99% will be able to move in their entire life. Regarding the footprint it’s only 1,76m long. Usually not a problem for basement or garage and with 2,35m high also not to high for most rooms.
Always liked this piece. It looks great on your gym and in the corner. But for me this is just too much for one piece. At one time my whole gym rack, dumbbells, bars and plates was less than this one piece.
