    Hey, brother! I have a success story with significant credit to YOU. I just wanted to stress to you how helpful your content has been. I was taken to the ER in the last part of October and diagnosed with 1) diabetes type 2 and 2) diabetic keto-acidosis. They said that it was just pure luck that I hadn't slipped into a coma and that I was literally on death's door. My BG was almost 600 and my A1C was 13%. I had been drinking 4 gallons of water per day and at the hospital, it took *two weeks* to get my electrolytes back to a safe level, with a constant phosphate/potassium drip *and* pills together. They sent me home with instructions to take 110 units of insulin per day. Long acting morning and night (40 each) and 10 each meal. They did not offer me much hope of doing anything except "getting it under control".
    Well, I got home on November 2nd, completely nervous and unsure about how to do things right and screwing things up. I bought the Mayo Clinic's tome on diabetes and then plowed into youtube videos. Though I watched m any, yours specifically were the ones that made me feel more sure of myself. Made me feel that it wasn't the end of the line, that I could do this, and armed me with tools, knowledge, and confidence.
    I never took any insulin, despite my prescription, because I took immediate action with my diet and the help of my CGM. Well, today (February 14th), I got my A1C test back. It was **5.4%**. I went form 13% and on death's door with 5 shots of insulin per day to 5.4% and no insulin (also no diabetic pills or anything of the sort whatsoever) in 100 days.
    My primary care physician and nurses could not believe it. They've even recruited me to offer my advice for some other patients they're dealing with as to how I was able to talk such a monumental task *SO FAST*. I just told them: Mayo Clinic book for fundamentals and knowledge. Type One Talks on YT for confidence-building, CGM usage/hacks/food tips, and stick to your CGM. If my CGM reads too high, I just don't eat yet. I wait until it's better. I went from it always being near 200 after the hospital visit to now, where even after I eat a meal, it rarely goes above 120 or so.
    I could not have done this without your channel and your friendly, positive attitude. I can not thank you enough for what you do. You have given more knowledge and help than my own doctors could or have. And your continued content will help me keep this up for the long haul.
    Thank you, brother. A million times over -- thank you!

      So thankful to read this. God Bless you. So happy that you pushed through and that you’ve made it and are still here to tell your story. I am new here and I have T2D I also am new to the cgms. Here in like 2 days I change my cgm for the 3rd time and they are 14 day uses. I’ve fought this diabetes I’ve dieted well no diet isn’t the right word. I’ve always eaten healthier than most but I’ve even changed that up some again. I drink enough water to float a battleship. I go through about idk a case every 3-5 days I also try to drink some hot tea I drink coffee in mornings occasionally I will have a soda pop that’s because glucose drops to low. 50s-60s. Like yesterday the cgm decided to go bonkers couldn’t decide if I was high or low. Ugh. So if I’m able I check with my meter. What types of foods/drinks do you consume? If you don’t mind my asking. I so enjoyed reading your post/message. Thank you again.

    Hi Patreon
    i really like your videos and posts, because they correspond exactly to my experiences.
    I have had td1 since 1990 and am familiar with most insulin pumps and cgm systems. In addition to other diseases i have a severe gastroparesis (the food often takes effect first 30min -1 h. if i am low and up to 4 - 8 h after having eaten FPE).
    I wore medtronic 640g for 6 years (+ enlite 2 + 3) and 3 years with dexcom g6, then ypsopump + tslim x2 for several months. I recognized that unfortunately my insulin requirement is too big for patch pumps. Since autumn 2023 i am currently wearing the minimed 780g and i luckily have still some supplies of dexcom G6 sensors in parallel to compare. Up to now Medtronic replaced me 8 units of Guardian 4 because of faulty sensors (measurement deviations up to 6mmol) I think the minimed insulin pumps are really perfect for me and as good as the accu chek Combo pump and (I love both besause ot the haptic feel) But the medtronic sensors are absolutely in need of improvement ( i got often so angry and wanted to throw the crappy things in the garbage (by the way i think Medtronic is the world champion in overpacking unnecessary items). Of course I will give this new simplera sensor the chance to change my opinion positively, but up to now i am somehow pessimistic. If that doesn't help either then i'll join to the loopercommunity and will learn all about xdrip and aaps.

    I was in the original US Dexcom trials and later in the original Medtronic CGM trials. Dexcom really won me over with how simple it is and it provided more accurate blood glucose levels. Medtronic really had the market on durable insulin pumps. I used a Tandem briefly in 2017, and when it stopped working once while shoveling snow and then completely died 6 months later, even though I was issued a replacement I didn’t trust it - additionally I hated the reservoir and syringe set up, so I went back to my previous Medtronic pump. That one lived a few years longer and then died when I drove for 8 hours in the summer with a car that had no air conditioning. It happened to be at the end of my 4 year warranty for the Tandem. So, I got a Medtronic 780g. The instructions for the CGM were so confusing, I never used it and got a prescription for Dexcom. Thank you for reviewing this new CGM. After all these years, whey does Medtronic insist upon reinventing the wheel - that Dexcom already perfected?

    This is genuinely exciting news - the more cgms on the market, the better. Though the 7 days lifetime is a shame for this one so far compared to the other systems available. The smart pen is a novel idea and I do hope it gets picked up by other manufacturers, too - as someone on MDI who doesn't want to use a pump, it'd be cool to see more such devices. It'd be interesting to see how this CGM continues to develop. I myself got a sibionics recently after watching your video and it's honestly made me wonder how I managed to live for 8 years with manual testing. So yay for cgms in all shapes and sizes!

    • @Murderbits

      Honestly, I'm entirely fine with my Libre 3 -- if they could just get the prices down to something a patient could pay out of pocket for and not go broke, it'd be a dream. Thanks to my CGM, I got myself form 13% AC! to 5.4% in 90 days. Unfortunately, it is likely that medicare may stop covering it, because . . . I do longer need insulin . . . because the CGM has been helping me. . . . so they're going to take it away. *sigh*. Though, in the long term, I have great hopes for them improving a device like this that will start to perform more work. Maybe a consolidated device that can provide glucose monitoring, arythmia/afib notifications, and many other things. How damn cool would that be?!?! A little thing you pop onto your skin for a couple weeks, track tons of health related things to give you data/guidance... The sky's the limit on the potential! :)

    The crappiness of the CGM sensors was one of the main reasons I switched from Medtronic insulin pumps to Tandem with the Dexcom (G6) CGM. Not only was the Minimed sensors complicated to insert and secure, but also, I got horrible readings from them. I'm curious about the smart pen. When I was on MDI, I used both long lasting insulin and fast. How does the pen track both, or does it just track the fast?

    Currently using the guardian 4 and it’s malfunctioning like nobody’s business - I had five (5) sensors die on me and Medtronic already warrantied the transmitter after five months of use. Medtronic is super helpful but that kind of failure rate is unacceptable.

    It's about time that Medtronic catch up the game. My biggest disappointment with all other CGM is that they don't connect with a pump directly. As fo0r the 7 days duration of the sensor, this is not a technological limitation. This has to do with medical authorities giving licences according to test data. For example, the Libre is approved for 12 days in some countries, while in others it's 14 days.
    After a start period, I'm certain Medtronic will gather more live data and make representations to increase the approved duration.

    I am excited about this CGM from Medtronic, but like every new innovative advancement I will not hold my breath for it's release in USA. Do you know if it will be compatible with pumps or will it be solely used for apps. It is past time for them to release this innovation, especially since the other guys have been doing it for a few years already.

  • @ornleifs
    @ornleifs 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

    You said the the sensor failed and I've had this issue with two sensors but when it happened the third time I decided to try to turn the app completely off and start it again and then it connected to the sensor without any problems - so I suspect the problem is in the app and not the sensor - so it's basically the old and simple method of turning it off and on again.

    I had one of the first Medtronic closed loop pumps in the UK.... I could see the potential... but all the calibrating and operating parameters just didn't work for my gastroparesis affected blood glucose levels! ....it thought it was broken all the time 🤦🏻‍♀️ I'm pretty done with pumps, I've had enough of having things "attached" to me. In fairness, I've had a feeding tube and and a fair amount of in patient treatment over the years... so not just down to the pumps.
    I use the Libre 3 now... impressed by the accuracy, and my bloods can fluctuate wildly. I was initially skeptical.. but the size and accuracy swung me. I haven't heard anything that would convince me to swap. The Libre 2 worked with my Echo Smart Pen, so I'm not that impressed by the Inpen... big deal 🤷🏻‍♀️ The Libre 3 doesn't scan the Echo Pen for some reason, but honestly, to me, I didn't find that particularly impressive anyway. I would prefer them to work on improving the Libre 3 app.... it's painfully slow and irritates the crap out of me! 😂

    When CGMs are price-competitive with aggressive manual monitoring (which I think is achievable today, but we are no doubt waiting for patents to expire), it could be a huge health boon for both T2 and non-diabetics wanting to customize their diet to avoid foods that spike their glucose.
    In the meantime, this, like the free blood pressure meters available to many at risk of hypertension, should be freely available for, say, one year out of five for anyone who wants one as part of a more aggressive health management/disease prevention plan. Ideally, the apps would allow for entry of foods and portions/times eaten to create a comprehensive, custom risk/benefit dietary analysis. I'm almost certain it would save far more than even the current cost of CGM. (And genomic evidence of significant risk of diabetes should automatically qualify for that type of monitoring.)

    I didn't completely follow the customizing alarms. My son HATES all the alarms. He often gets 20 or more a day when the dexcom rides a high or low line and just moves back and forth--especially at night. And often when that happens, the dexcom is 15-35 points off so you really don't want to treat it. He had days in a row where it was 100's off and calibration did not fix it long term. Soooooo can you silence the alarms on this cgm and that includes vibrations. We count vibrations as an alarm as well--especially since it wakes you up. I think there needs to also be a do not disturb for driving. Cgm's do not shut up so it is equal to texting and driving when you have to deal with cgm alarms . When it is stuck on a line it can go off every 5-10 minutes as it moves 5 points one way and 5 points back.

    The Guardians are terrible actually. But the Simplera doesn't work with the 780g pump yet. From what I was just told. Medtronic is still way behind. I've been pumping for 20yrs with Medtronic. I have used the Dexcom's as well. Thanks for showing how to overlap the sensors. Who says that you can't teach sn old dog new tricks!

      It shouldn't, that's why it should be applied in a specific area. Yet that can all depend on how little fat someone has or how thin they are but alot of people use them with little issues. Usually no pain with application

      One has no choice as to how far into the skin the sensor goes. Same for all external CGM's. The Eversense sensor being the exception. A healthcare professional inserts that sensor.

      The AIDEX CGM has a full set of reports on the actual app including current HbA1c and MBG (moving blood glucose)
      Time in range and the best is you can specify the time periods for the measurements. It is the best and most accurate I have come across so far. Besides that it is the most accurate BG readings I have found as well. Unfortunately my post has been removed. Not sure why?

      Libre 2 does show average over time up to 90 days and you can use a a1c calculator for the reading available by googling it, just enter the average, there is a specific formula used in the calculator, its easy

    @SA-ho2nw 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    These sensors are so expensive. 7 days is a definite no. The Libre 2 last 14 days, is much smaller, and only an hr wait time, plus you can pair it with a separate reader vs a phone. However, the Medtronic insulin pen sounds promising they need to go back to the drawing board on the other issues.

    I heard about this CGM last year from Medtronic representatives, and I was not impressed. Especially because it was still over a year away here in Canada (probably 1 more year to go). It is an upgrade for Medtronic, but that upgrade is only catching up to everyone else, and barely. Not really impressed at all.

      Freeze the video when the chart compares the cgm results. Note the Simplera is closest to the BG test meter results. Appears to be the most accurate.

      @Bill_Vog 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@franklingarey9877 A sensor's accuracy is based on MARD, not what is closest to a random BG test meter. How do I know his meter is accurate? This video is more about his experience with it and not scientific. I don't think 2 hrs for warm up & 7-day lifespan for the sensor is keeping up with today's sensors.

  • @skateralien

    I still use the old Medtronic Guardian sensor. The application is a pain in the ass, without my wife I won't be able to do it. Also the pairing process, it's so bad, we have to remove the transmitter a few times because the app doesn't recognize it, sometimes restart the phone repair the transmitter in order to make it work. You need to calibrate them 2 times a day, but on the day of insertion, you have to do it 4 times, in every 6 hours. This means you can't sleep more than 6 hours that day because you have to wake up and check your glucose, otherwise the app just won't show any data. They are also slow, reads in every 5 minutes only, compared to freestyle libre 3 one minute. One positive thing with the software is that you can personalize your alerts and it has an alert if your glucose is going up or down very abruptly, the helped me a lot to prevent hypos or high glucoses and I missed when I used the freestyle libre 3 software. Compared to the freestyle software a feature what I like and I'm used to it, is that you can't mute the alerts for more than 3 hours (you can turn of for the night most of them), with the freestyle sometimes I forgot to check my glucose and tuned out after 2 hours my glucose still was high.

    The Inpen is expensive, so it makes me wonder how expensive this cgm is if they give you an Inpen for free. It doesn’t really matter for me here in Australia because we still don’t have the Freestyle Libre 3. So this cgm will take years, if ever, to be approved here. Even then it’s unlikely to be subsidised like the FL 2 or dexcom g6. Healthcare device applications are lengthy and expensive. The companies have to weigh up if it’s worth it for a total population of only 26.6 million.

    T2D here on Jardiance, Pio, Met and Sita.
    The 1 week (or less) lifespan is a nonstarter. But the Libre 3 is not accurate. It always reads 10 to 30 mg/dL higher than the finger sticks, always. And the larger sensor for the Simpler than Libre 3 is a negative.

  • @somaliskinnypirate
    @somaliskinnypirate 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Meh, I'll stick with the Freestyle Libre 3. Its tiny and doesn't get in the way. Accuracy, for me, matches blood tests. Their insertion method looks like a direct copy of the Libre device..surprised there isn't a patent issue.

    7 days = useless. Even putting costs aside, just having to reapply it is a big hassle (esp. with all CGMs being wonky first day or two). Not to mention excessive packaging, and having to pack multiple of these for longer travels.
    With a bunch of cheap Chinese CGMs that work perfectly for 14/15/24… days, not sure whats the point in this.
    Pen sounds fun. Would be nice to get to use it independently with xdrip or something.

    For type 2, it is a total failure. Big and bulky compared to Libre 3, does not Last near as long (only 10 days instead of 14), and app does not work as well. The pen seems like a great idea but that is only needed for type 1.

    Medtronic is falling behind because Medtronic knows that the CGM market is a billion dollar industry and they want to own the CGM and only have there pumps work with there CGM brand only. Yet Medtronic is left behind. If Medtronic could buy out Dexcom, that would use their technology then close the company. For me I will be with Dexcom

  • @ForceFreeTrainergirl06

    This is no better than the Libre 2. In fact it's worse than the Libre 2. Libre 2 has 14 days wear. It has 60 minutes warm up time. Libre 2 has alarms, and lots of data, including my A1c estimates time in range etc etc. Also it updates every MINUTE not every 5 mins which makes the Simpa not a full CGM but a flash glucose sensor. I have only ever had one failure of the Libre 2 in 3 years. That simply was that it fell off at day 7. Normally I keep an eye on the sensor and if it looks like coming a bit unstuck, I slap on some hypafix to keep it on. This time I missed it. Also I NEVER wear it on the back of my arm. For the simple reason that if it is coming unstuck, I won't see it and I may lose it. If it's on the front of my arm where I always wear it, I spot it immediately. For me the Libre has always been spot on in comparison with a finger stick glucose test. It's never been off. I don't see any reason to use this new sensor above my Libre 2 which I am very happy with.
