I was driving home on the freeway a couple weeks ago and the guitar solo started as the sunset was cresting the hills in the distance. It was such a weirdly magical moment, blasting off into the orange sky.
@cflores1889, I wish I were there with you to experience such an unforgettable sight. 🌇 I can practically see that scenario in the C😎😎LEST bad A** Superbowl ad.
Easily one of the best songs ever. The nonsensical rhyming lyrics, the instrumental interlude with awesome guitar & killer drums, the layered vocals near the end, the hauntingly quiet final line - put all that together and its just an incredible song; 7 minutes of ecstasy.
This is the definitive version, hands down. There is so much cool stuff to listen to - the drums, the guitar, the multilayered vocals and of course “Chopsticks” thrown in. This song always brings a smile to my face and transports me back in time to the 70s and my senior year of high school.
As a big Springsteen fan myself I was surprised about how well done this cover was. I may still prefer the Boss' original version (THAT bassline is amazing, played by Bruce himself btw) but this version is simply amazing.
Das Lied hab ich zum ersten Mal an einem wunderschönen heiligen Abend, also am 24. Dezember 1976 gehört. Hat mich schwer beeindruckt. Eines der Musikstücke, die mich dazu gebracht hatten zu malen :)
the remaning band dont play the lead guitar on this one im sure somebody out there can play the awsome lead on this masterpiece Im trying to learn this riff
So sick of radio stations, especially SATELLITE RADIO, playing the short version. I can forgive the FM stations, they gotta run ads to stay alive. Satellite radio is subscription based though. No ads. Play the long version, or don't play it at all!.
Flashback to the 70's. Warm Summer night at the lake, sitting on the dock with your feet in the water, moon shimmering off ripples on the water. This song comes on the radio, someone fired up a doobie and passed it around. Time to go skinny dipping, are you coming? 🌜
“Blinded by the Light” is a high-energy track that matches the thrill of adolescence. The song is packed with the invincibility of youth, and the hopeful perspective that anything is possible. The lyrics are reminiscent of Bruce Springsteen’s early days as a musician with a handful of eccentric characters that he met at venues.....Springsteen talked about this song in detail on an episode of VH1 Storytellers. A lot of the references are personal, to include people he knew or had met on the Boardwalks, or had grown up around, or were just direct personal references to himself: Madman drummers bummers - Vinnie "Mad dog" Lopez, the first drummer in the E Street Band. Indians in the summer - Bruce's little league baseball team as a kid. In the dumps with the mumps - being sick with the mumps. Boulder on my shoulder - a "chip" on his shoulder. Some all hot, half-shot, heading for a hot spot, snapping fingers clapping his hands - Being a "know it all kid growing up, who doesn't really know anything." "Silicone Sister" - Bruce mentions that this is arguably the first mention of breast implants in popular music - a dancer at one of the local strip joints in Asbury Park. He wrote this song in his bedroom, primarily using a rhyming dictionary. Or as Bruce put it, "the rhyming dictionary was on fire."
Whenever this song came on the radio when I was younger you would wait and hope it was the long play version, not the short made for radio version. Good times.
In my opinion, as someone who enjoys almost every genre of music, I would easily consider this a perfect song. From start to finish, this cover of Springsteen is so nostalgic and timeless. I mean damn, just simply perfect.
I remember hearing this song lots of times when I was a kid. I also saw this album cover when I was nine years old. But until today, I didn’t realize that this album cover was from an album by Manfred Mann’s Earth Band. Nor did I know the title of the album. Well, you learn something new every day.
If you really want to experience the true brilliance of this song then listen to it in quad sound with a speaker in each corner of the room and turn it up really loud. You won't regret it.
Great music can set you free, if only for a few moments, while it transports you back to somewhere, someplace, and at sometime throughout your past. That is the magic of the art. Every note is like a painters stroke of his or her brush on the canvas. That's the beauty of it. Sometimes you end up with a masterpiece. Rock on.
People saying the lyrics make no sense. Mama told me not to stare into the sun. But mama that’s where the fun is. Life in a nutshell right there. Wrapped up perfectly for you nonsensically inclined people. Beautiful and brilliant at the same time. So rare
Most of the lyrics mean more than the "nonsensical" things people take away from it. With a boulder on my shoulder, feeling kinda older I tripped the Merry-go-round. With the very unpleasing sneezing and wheezing the calliope crashed to the ground. Puberty in a couple of elegant sentences
If your old man was a boomer pumping these classic tunes, there were 2 crazy moments for you growing up: finding out that All Along the Watchtower was a Bob Dylan song and finding out this was a Springsteen song. In both cases the cover is way better than the original.
This is one of my favorite songs from the 1970s. The lyrics are very interesting. I just recently learnt that this song was written by Bruce Springsteen. I haven't ever heard his version.
Manfred Mann’s Earth Band’s remake of Blinded By The Light which was originally written and recorded by Bruce Springsteen topped the charts for one week on February 19,1977 ending Mary MacGregor’s two week run with her smash hit ballad Torn Between Two Lovers. Then the following week Manfred Mann’s Earth Band were dethroned by the Eagles with the first single from their landmark album Hotel California titled New Kid In Town.

I’m just glad that nobody started a comment going, about what they THOUGHT Chris Thompson was singing. Like, the part where ……oh, wait, what am I doing?

I’ve had that moment with this song many, many times. Always in my top ten.
its all about those movie moments
Easily one of the best songs ever. The nonsensical rhyming lyrics, the instrumental interlude with awesome guitar & killer drums, the layered vocals near the end, the hauntingly quiet final line - put all that together and its just an incredible song; 7 minutes of ecstasy.
Nonsensical and some that do connect
I fully agree with Robert Adams.
Thank you very much Jimmie Usery
I agree. This song, BOC's Don't Fear the Reaper, and Chicago's 'Beginnings' are probably my top 3 of all time.
It was done first by Bruce Springsteen, believe it or not. He was flattered and happy with the changes Manfred Mann and his Earth Band made to it.
One of those songs that INSTANTLY transports me to a different time and place. What a great song.
2023 & still 1 of the greatest riffs/intermission ever blazed!! 2:50-
I Totally agree, it’s an absolute time machine!
Indeed. September 1976 and I'm starting Year 2 at primary school. The playground is being resurfaced - I can still smell the hot tarmac!
With you there

I was a Junior in high school when this song came out. We'd stop doing whatever we were doing and just listen to it. Fond memories.

There’s so many great guitar players and guitar solos but this solo still gets me every time, even after hearing it probably 2000 times, or more.

Technically it's not extended. This is he full original album version. The shorter version is the one that was edited for radio play.
Absolutely! It's EXTREMELY disappointing when I hear the abridged version on the radio.

Suits riding a motorcycle very fast how the song gets progressively fast at certain points. Love it

Always thought this amazing song should have won the title for the best pop song of the 20th Century instead of Queen's Bohemian Rapsody.
I second this
Hard call. Both are epic.
TOTALLY 110% AGREE! ONE OF THE GREATEST EVER PERIOD!
Meaning BLINDED THEE BEST! AND GO FIGURE I LISTEN TO METAL RAP/HIP-HOP HOUSE N OF COURSE ROCK!
there's too many great 20th century pop songs like those two for that title to even be fair
Great memories, but also makes me smile by including _"Chopsticks"_ in the arrangement at 4:46 - guaranteed to drive a piano teacher nuts.
Great song from September 1976. And especially this long version is great.

Song about Bruce Spingstien growing up. Seeing the "deuce coupe" cars the girls that snuck
out of home "little runner in the night". The "curly whirly" a circus ride, "calliope" also a circus reference. It all makes sense.
One hint wonder and this is the one hit! At least this is the only song that comes to mind!
nice song
Blinded by the light
Revved up like a deuce
Another runner in the night
Blinded by the light
Madman drummer bummers
Indians in the summer
With a teenage diplomat
In the dumps with the mumps
As the adolescent pumps
His way into his hat
With a boulder on my shoulder
Feeling kinda older
I tripped a merry-go-round
With this very unpleasing
Sneezing and wheezing
The calliope crashed to the ground
The calliope crashed to the ground
But she was blinded by the light
Revved up like a deuce
Another runner in the night
Blinded by the light
Revved up like a deuce
Another runner in the night
Blinded by the light
Revved up like a deuce
Another runner in the night
Some silicone sister
With her manager mister
Told me I got what it takes
She said, I'll turn you on sonny to something strong
Play the song with the funky break
And go-kart Mozart
Was checking out the weather chart
To see if it was safe outside
And little Early Pearly
Came by in his curly-wurly
And asked me if I needed a ride
Asked me if I needed a ride
'Cause she was blinded by the light
Revved up like a deuce
Another runner in the night
Blinded by the light
She got down but she never got tight
She's gonna make it to the night
She's gonna make it through the night
But mama, that's where the fun is
But mama, that's where the fun is
[Solo]
Mama always told me not to look into the eyes of the sun
But mama, that's where the fun is
Some brimstone baritone
Anticyclone rolling stone
Preacher from the east
Says, "Dethrone the Dictaphone
Hit it in its funny bone
That's where they expect it least."
And some new mown chaperone
Was standing in the corner
Watching the young girls dance
And some fresh-sown moonstone
Was messing with his frozen zone
Reminding him of romance
The calliope crashed to the ground
But she was blinded by the light
Revved up like a deuce
Another runner in the night
Blinded by the light
Revved up like a deuce
Another runner in the night
(Madman drummers bummers and Indians in the summer with a teenage diplomat
