    None of the solutions allow you to record both other party's zoom meeting voice nor your voice at the same time if you are using headphones. Without using speakers and only with headphones, how can you record both voices?

      With a mixer that supports ‘mix minus’ so the voices don’t repeat against each other..

    I will record Kevin's voice instead of music. Your voice is just so clear and easy to understand. Audacity and OBS are probably the best free apps out there that do almost everything you want it to do. The only Window that I will never close is the Windows operating system. Great video.

    Configuring StereoMix on Windows 10 looks completely different on my PC than shown here. Your tutorials are excellent so I hate to ask you to do more work. While most of us are sticking with or can't upgrade to Win11 we need both the Win10 and Win11 versions when changes need to be made using Setings. Keep up the excellent tutorials, always clear and easy to follow. Thanks.

    In my case stereo mix is not available on my HP notebook. In Audacity, the play back quality is poor compared to the original sound, even when I adjust the recording settings to a higher level. Who has the same experience?

  • @NoEgg4u
    @NoEgg4u 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Kevin, if my PC is playing a 44.1 kHz / 16 bit .wav file, from some web site, then how do I know that my recording will be that same 44.1 kHz / 16 bit .wav file, and not something close, but sounds the same through my PC's speakers?
    And taking this to the next level...
    What if my PC is playing a 192 kHz / 24 bit .flac file, from some web site. Same question applies.
    You know how if an office copy machine makes a copy of a copy of a copy, etc, you eventually see the degradation?
    How do I know whether the same is happening with copying the sound files?
    How do I know whether or not some audio conversion is taking place, that tinkers with the Pulse Code Modulation of the audio?
    The server that is sending the sound file has an actual sound file that it is sending to me. I want my copy to be equal (not 99.99% nearly as good) to that which is on the server.
    Will the methods that you showed in this video accomplish my goal? Which one(s)?
    Thank you.

    • @KevinStratvert
      @KevinStratvert  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ideally download the source file. If that's not an option, the second method using Audacity allows you to configure the Project Rate. That'll ensure you can match the quality levels. It should be an identical copy since it's all digital end-to-end.

    • @NoEgg4u
      @NoEgg4u 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@KevinStratvert I understand that when you make a copy of a file (any file -- not just sound files), then your copy will be 100% identical to the source file, and that you can make copies of copies, forever, and all will be 100% identical.
      However, how do I know that Audacity is not recording some lossless 192 kHz .flac file as a lossy .mp3 file, and then converting that .mp3 file (and upsampling that .mp3 file) to the 192 kHz file to the Project Rate value that I set?
      In such a case, my resulting 192 kHz file will not be the same as the server's 192 kHz file.
      My goal is to have each of the 192,000 samples of each second copied exactly as is, and I do not know if Audacity is doing that.
      Sort of like having a Word document, and converting it to a PDF document, and then back to a Word document.
      Your original Word document might appear to be the same as your new, double-converted Word document. But if you ran the "fc.exe" command, and compared your two (supposedly) identical Word documents, would they be really be identical?
      And does your web browser need to support the various lossless file formats? Is it your web browser that initially captures the sound samples, which (in your example) Audacity scrapes and saves for you?
      I appreciate your feedback. This is important for me. I have been trying to nail this down for a long time, and was pleased to see you post this video.
      Thank you.

    When using Audacity at 4:19 to the right of Speakers where it says Mono you should select Stereo. I would think you would want the music you record to be in Stereo. As a side note Audacity takes up alot of RAW internal storage when recording so you may not want to be recording for very long recording session if you are low on disk space. This storage is freed up when you exit however. it is only used while the app is open. Learned this the hard way. Computer froze up because I ran out of disk space and had no way to save. Mind you it was a long recording session. I don't see a reason to use Virtual Audio Cable unless you have multiple audio sources using multiple audio cards. OBS is another free tool you can use to save audio but it only saves as MP4 but it is not application storage intensive. Just open the MP4 in Audacity to obtain the audio and save as whatever format you need.

I want to record zoom conference call meeting (i used plain apple earphones) and my computer is dell window 9 and i only can record my voice (using voice recorder in window) but I couldn’t record other ppl presentation voice. The first technique is missing an important step:
    1. Go to the bottom-right corner of the icon tray.
    2. Right-click the sound icon.
    3. A menu will pop out. Choose Sounds
    4. Go to the Recording tab
    5. Right click on "Stereo Mix" and click on "Set as Default Communication Device"
    6. Click on "Ok"
    After doing this, recording worked on my Windows 10 machine

    Hi Kevin. This was a very interesting and well presented video. Let me subscribe to your channel first.... done! And I also hit the "like" button. OK, now I don't feel so guilty asking you to help me solve a specific recording situation.
    I'm, back to practicing trumpet again (after almost 60 years!) and would like to record my practice sessions on my PC, hopefully not having to buy any expensive special external microphones. I feel like it should be able to be done using the internal mic on the PC. I've got a Dell All-in-One, about 4 years old. Windows 10. When you have a chance, please let me know how I can record portions of my trumpet practice and then play back the sound through my PC's (Altec) speakers.
    Thanks.

    Do you have any material on record in audio & video at the same time without the need to post edit? I would like use the sound effects in garage band and record in one take.
    Cheers.

    In Windows Voice Record, Audacity, and Studio One 4, if I use Stereo Mix to record Windows audio, it sounds terrible. A lot of depth is gone and it sounds kind of echo-ey/distant. I'll record a track using Stereo Mix while playing a song with iTunes. iTunes audio output sounds great. The Stereo Mix device in the Control Panel Sound settings is set to be 2 channel 24 bit 48000 Hz and the DAWs are set the same (48000Hz). Sound Recorder software is set to record WAV Lossless and Audio Quality is set to Best.
    If I screen record iTunes playing a song and rip the audio in Studio One, the track sounds much better but kind of off still. I'm assuming the screen recording software diminishes the recorded audio, though.
    Any thoughts?

    Kevin, I have a suggestion, how great it would be if you make a video on how to use Task Scheduler?

    I hope you got your word/title limit man. I know much of it is probably just your natural cadence but man, At times you're laying the O-VUR-A-NN-UN-SI-A-SH-UN on so thick you sound like synthesized. speech.

    I've set it up but it's not receiving any audio. Noting I'm using an external sound card for my music studio (looks like you were too). I've tried all the different outputs but doesn't seem to work. Thoughts?

    Dang... I chose to install the Audacity recorder from their site and it ended-up putting PDF Converter on my PC. This is my recording studio PC (my DAW doesn't allow recording from apps outside of it), so once I realized that I'd put that adware/malware on my PC I wasn't thrilled. Now I'm trying to remove it completely. :/

    For the first option (adding stereo mix as an input and using voice recorder), this worked and is great, but I noticed it only works if the computer speakers are the active output. Is there a way to make this work will monitoring sound from my headphones instead?

    I had to dig around TH-cam to find a video to help me record audio or voice on laptop. This helped me a lot, thank you
