- Saints Row Reboot has finally been released. Sadly.
I know many of you are no doubt expecting me to review it, just as I have the other games. But let me ask you a question: am I a hypocrite? I said I was not going to buy the game- and I meant it. No one should buy games with disrespectful developers, who ignore their fans requests.
No. Instead, I shall break down the cycle of why most triple AAA video games released today are absolutely garbage, and give you some pointers in how you can contribute to raising the bar.
But the truth is, you'll never understand why the gaming industry is in the pitiful state that it's in, unless you delve back into reality.

And once again, the fanbase were correct as always. And the worst part is that they had a delay to so called " iron out the bugs and polish the game to give us the best so called saints row " that aged like milk.
Yeah, they instead let it collect metaphorical (and physical) dust just because they were actually scared of competing with Elden Ring. From what I can recall, learning about a few Federal Laws, Fraud is a big no-no. Why has no Government or big Organization gone after companies like Volition and EA for committing fraud? At an International level no less. That's what Saints Row (reboot) is. That's what EA has been selling to their consumers for 15 years. It's baffling they've gotten away with it every time.

Bruh, Anthem had a longer lifespan, let that sink in.
This sums it up perfectly. From the second the first trailer was released we all called it out. And Volition double, tripled and quadrupled down on that "we the fans are wrong". Going so far to insult us. Yet, who was right in the end?
Maybe actually listen to your fans.

The current state of the gaming industry feels almost like a cautionary tale a science fiction author would have written in the 50's or 60's.
Excepted for the aa gaming scene and the indie gaming scene.
@@TheREALHugo4 the Japanese AAA industry is also doing pretty well. Monster Hunter is still amazing, Yakuza is still amazing, Fromsoft games are still amazing, many Nintendo games are still amazing.

You know. This game actually surpassed my expectations. I was expecting the story and characters to be awful. Now that the game is out we know that the gameplay and technical quality of the game are terrible too.

I was expecting exactly that- shit story and characters, but with the one saving grace being the gameplay and the fun you at least would have with that- but not even that man, it's depressing.

@@AliBazz I try to give every game the benefit of a doubt before release that at least the gameplay will be okay, even if its not my cup of tea. But oh boy, when the review embargo was lifted did that fly out the window. I've seen videos where the enemies fail to spawn during car chase scenes.
If anything i was just expecting this turd to be another Woke dumpster fire and i guess thats what we got but with the bugs added as the shit icing on the cake as for the gameplay you can get that same gameplay by just playing the real saints row games aka 1 and 2 might be the same shit but id never get bored going through that again where id most likely get a aneurysm if i played the reboot.
This feels like we're witnessing volition self harming themselves. They knew exactly what we wanted, but the ego in them just continues to refuse to give people what they'll actually pay for. I am so happy that a lot of the OG fans are standing their ground on either waiting for a deep sale or not playing it at all. they don't deserve our money, and we will not continue to enable this behavior from them.
I'm not even gonna give this game the time of day. Ive lived sr since the original. 2 and 3 were fun and 4 was too but it was a bad sr game. I'd rather redownload warzone than play this hink of garbage. The devs don't even see anything wrong with this. Oh how the mighty have fallen

"Buy Japanese games" should come with the caveat that they have a good translation. Ideologues in so called "localisation" companies have been re-writing games, anime, and manga during translation.

Things like this always make me think back to the live action sonic movie. The initial design for sonic was unanimously panned and instead of telling the fans that they were just haters, the decision to delay the movie and redesign sonic was made, and it single-handedly turned what would have been a flop into an unprecedented success that has now launched its own trilogy. Really, when has telling your customers that they're awful people for not liking your shitty products ever worked out?

Delayed the movie by months, delayed merchandise by months, more money spent paying employees, more money spent on new marketing, and the closure of the animation studio that fixed sonic, all for a "chance" that it would pay off and they'd make their money back. I keep hearing people say "You were young and everything was still fresh and new to you at the time."... WRONG. I was born in 1974.... Been gaming since 1980.
90% of that gaming was done between 2008 - 2012.... I was in my 30s... married...working well over 40 hours a week.... And still spent almost ALL my spare time gaming. The Xbox 360/PS3 generation was objectively the best gaming generation.
Many people 20 years younger than me are believing THEY have changed - and that's the reason they're losing interest. NO. NOT EVEN CLOSE. You hate modern day games because modern day games suck.
We're not making the technological leaps and bounds we used to.... fair enough - But at the end of the day - Game development teams today have no soul or creative freedom.

The character animation/ Artificial intelligence. .... ALL OF THESE things NEED to compliment the monitizaion/ micro transaction systems that are now built into the very foundation of the game ....

Holy hell! .... No, it's not just you - It's not in your head ...... This entire industry is going to hell in a hand basket. Sadly enough - gamers seem to be lowering their standards and discernment. They EXPECT games to be launched in a completely unplayable state - They've accepted the fact gaming publishers have ZERO game testers/Quality control department..... They've made a conscious decision to do this work for them.

Well said, as a millennial that got to enjoy Saints Row back in its hayday, and a host of other amazing games, it's definitely not the consumers that've changed it's the executives and developers who water down their product to appeal to people who will never purchase their product.
Also the fact that we went from video games where you actually had to figure out how to play it yourself and there were no excessive tutorials but then a lot of casuals came into the industry and demanded tutorials all of a sudden video game started losing the most important thing that made us love the game so much immersion. The game I put the most hours into on my PlayStation 4 / 5 console is Minecraft not the best graphics but the best immersion I've had in years

When I was 22 I was playing games like crazy, always excited to get home, sit down and game withy bois. Now I'm 24 and I get so exhausted playing games unless it's with friends. For so long I assumed maybe I've outgrown video games and it made me sad to think in 2 short years I changed soo much and the hobby that once brought me such joy felt like a chore to do.
It wasn't until I realized when very few games caught my eye for pre-order that I understood, games nowadays aren't anywhere near as good as they used to be and I blame this new "social acceptance" crap where we all must reform to please everybody or else.
Absolutely spot on commentary not only on modern gaming, but modern society as a whole. Well done, lad.

There is no way in Hell I would ever pay for this game. I _might_ give it a day in court if it ever came to gamepass, but I would sooner throw my Xbox in the fire than ever give Volition/Deep Silver another bent penny of my hard-earned dosh.

Sam Maggs is a prime example of being hired when unqualified, failing constantly, yet always finding a way to get back into some other company. Starts with "virtual"... how to say without the filter getting me... "virtual... forceful relations without consent?" on the news, then gets multiple jobs to write for games with no actual background being being an outrage blogger, creates a hostile work environment everywhere she goes and has produced low quality writing for each project that actually used her work, yet is still getting places. Somehow.
You know you're awful when the industry filled with this ideology that in every other way would want you around, and agrees politically with you, kicks you to the curb. That's why she keeps getting rehired places after all, but everyone seems to just under estimate just how toxic she as an individual is. "LOMBAX TIDDIES!" she screamed in Insomniac Games. She boldly admits to it on twitter. And also laid false claims of designing Rivet and gets called out by other people who worked on the R&C Rift Apart. Her whole background is ridiculous. She's at least out of games for now after helping derail the KOTOR Remake, but she's still with SW writing a book despite having no history of writing a book. (I hear her husband is connected and is why she got a few of her gigs, including this one).
Animation isn't much different really. People who had tumblr blogs get to showrun established IP like She-Ra. They do such a bad job they have to bring in an actual experienced man to steer things away from the iceburg and then it's still terrible because the writing room and artists are all unqualified for animation work. But they're "diverse" (no men = diverse, ok, even though She-Ra was created by two men, granted her design itself was very involved with a lot of women who pushed hard for the final design).
I'm surprised how long this ideology has been allowed to destroy businesses for no reason. I get there's a bigger picture to create division and make the divisive media inescapable, but at a certain point you gotta keep making money surely.
It was actually far worse than expected, I love happy endings.

I actually expected it to have pretty fun gameplay, and play solidly considering how much it looked like sr3. Kinda feared new audience full of tiktok types would roll in cause how quirky it was. Than franchise would be even more doomed going down the path of what millennial wierdos think zoomers like.
@@bennitooo6913 the gameplay is dull, annoying and frustrating, enemies while on movement animation just wont take damage at all even at point blank range, it is a objectivelly fundamental blunder, and they do deserve it.

Im saying that i expected at the very least they'd use saints row 3 as a skeleton since that worked fine, and just add shit to it to improve it. Even so it's not that simple, there are certain genres not really represented in indie games and it's always nice to have these bigger productions out there. Games like Terraria or the binding of isaac are bangers but occasionally I'd like to have a fallout or GTA

With Japanese games it depends, what usually happens is that American translators will insult their stupid politics into the game anyway. I saw a Squaresoft game the over politicized Curry because it's originally Indian, despite how Curry is sold as a normal food in Japan. That's similar to politicizing Pizza in the USA, because it's Italian lol.

The only positive thing I can say about this soulless reboot is seeing how bad it is made me start to replay the first two games, and they’re still so great. If Volition (or any company for that matter) was smart they would actually listen to the fans and the products would be better and sell better for it. Get woke, go broke.
There are some very cool ideas in the game, I will give it that. But the lack of a sex-trade in the game butchered it because it was that harder edge that made the originals so exhilarating, especially 1 and 2.

@@well1012 The thing that I miss the most about 1 & 2 is that despite how crazy and exhilarating the side activities were the overall story of the Saints as a gang is that they went from wanting to just protect their community to becoming involved in the sex trade, drugs, street racing, etc, and in SR2 Julius says it perfectly, all we did was turn into Vice kings that wore purple. It was very realistic, based off of how many gangs started in real life, while still being over the top in places and fun to play.

I guess it comes down to your expectations. Personally, this was my most anticipated "I told you so" of the year and in that regard I wasn't disappointed at all.
Hopefully Volition goes under... The people that made SR great have been long gone anyway. They need to see that this crap has no place amongst actual fans of gaming!
I'd argue it's not a mystery on why it's called Progressivism. It's called Progressivism because of identity politics. Call yourselves good and others bad and see who sides with good out of fear of being called bad. See their loyalty as they keep their heads down and mouths parroting. Marketing to get a bill passed (Inflation Act, Patriot Act) for example

I've been playing Saint's Row 1 alongside the reboot (thankfully didn't pay for my copy) and it's astonishing just how bad it is. Not mentioning the cringeworthy story, or the plethora of gamebreaking bugs, it's just hands down NOT a good game, or even a mediocre one. Every mission involves one of three things; 1. Horde mode shooting 2. Driving and ramming other cars or 3. a mix of 1 and 2. To make this even worse, on foot sections have a limited play area... a limited play area in an OPEN WORLD GAME. AI will glitch out and not approach you, causing you to not be able to kill them because you are stuck in an artificial zone and the guns have piss poor accuracy. Player and enemy cars seem to have unlimited mass to them, meaning they will plow through civilian cars without being slowed, and vehicle AI will teleport (you can see this on the radar) behind you when it's in chase mode. Saint's Row 1 ACTUALLY has vehicle AI that obeys the same rules you as a player has to follow.
But none of this is the worst part, the worst part is that the reboot lacks ANY sort of edge. Sure, you're a literal mass shooter murderer (which you would think those types would have a problem with in CURRENT YEAR) but heaven forbid your character drinks a forty or smokes a blunt. Off to thought-jail for you if you even think about pimping those ho's (*ahem* Sorry I meant "sex workers"), and heavens forfend if you have a dildo shaped bat. The game is a sanitized Disneyland that tastes of nothing except bitterness and contempt for those who actually enjoyed prior games in the series.
You are wise to not even bother with this one, it's utterly forgettable and a waste of time, even to lampoon. I find myself pining to return to playing Far Cry 5 I recently started with my SO because at least there, the gunplay is great and the driving is decent. One silver lining, this game shows us just how good SR1 and 2 really were, the gameplay still holds up and honestly the story looks like Shakespeare to the reboot writing.

As a Zoomer, I think it's hilarious that they thought any of this would appeal to me. I played Saints Row 3 when I was a kid, none of this is why I bought that game. I replayed 2 when I was a teen, I fucking loved that game! What is wrong with Volition?

I'm not an american, but I have followed the situation from 2015 - 2022, and the stuff they have on their tv is just 24/7 propaganda, and I have seen in comment sections and internet how the "Fence sitters" have moved, and it's pretty terrifying. The amount of "psy ops" (Collection of lies made to be distributed widely and believed widely) every day, is insane. It's a forced evolution, something unatural, it's being pushed against, but it just goes forward.
Thanks for covering everything about it up to release even if this one isn't necessarily about the game itself and more so a wider scale. Helps not memoryhole a lot of stuff.

As of 2023, I hope you do one final follow-up video now that the Saints Row reboot has BOMBED. Seemingly over *$100 million* went into that train wreck game and it reportedly couldn't even break even. To the point the company is being restructured or whatever... 😌😌

One of the 10 indie games that I could fit in the same hard drive space is at least 5x better.
This reboot abomination really doesn't even worth the bandwidth to pirate it.
You would have a much better time playing freeware and open source games like FreeDOOM and DOOM total conversions (Ashes 2063, Castlevania Simon's Destiny), Minetest, Solarus games (Zelda fangames), Mindustry, OpenTTD, Cave Story, Sonic Robo Blast 2, SRB2 Kart, etc. than with this buggy, empty, cringeworthy trashfire of a reboot.

I'm only sad because this studio was the same studio that gave me the punisher. And Introduced me to my favorite marvel character ever. But I should know that the people who made it are long gone. I really liked this video, he touched upon *ESG* based investing being adopted in western countries(America and Western Europe), it's one of the reasons non western games have been so good. Non western developers/publishers don't have to follow ESG scoring guidelines/portfolio to appeal to socially conscious(western) investors who look at a company's ESG score before deciding which company to invest. Non western games are more focused on gameplay, combat, level design, good enemy Ai, fun dialogues whereas western games are filled with social commentary and gameplay takes a back seat.
You're genuinely one of the very few people on this platform who actually puts thought into your content. Not just mindless junk for likes and views. You'll always be considered crazy for speaking things above most people's level of comprehension. When a majority of the population is sleeping and letting things like the saints row reboot happen. All we gotta do is stop supporting crap. Money is all these people care about. So if we don't give them money then the problem should work itself out. Hit them where they'll feel it. Dev studios abandon meritocracy in favor of courting talentless hacks simply because they’re the right color or gay/trans etc
I bet the sales / downloads for saints row 1 and 2 probably hiked up dramatically after the reboots release.
I like the it's not that bad argument. Because it's coming from a place of mediocrity. Why are we satisfied with mediocre, we should be demanding for greatness. When a game doesn't live up to its predisesors then it needs to be trashed because the purpose of making a continuation to a franchise is to improve on it!

That segment talking about why I'm bored with games is pretty accurate. I don't play too main mainstream games. I've spent countless hours on Stellaris, BattleTech, X3, and MW5, not your typical game that gets plastered all over these stupid games shows, and not the kind that show up on the radar of the Twitter rage mob.
Gaming went downhill once it went too mainstream, and has only gotten worse.
Volition made one of my all time favourite series, Freespace. But now, there is no way THIS Volition could ever hope to make another one.
I agree with practically everything you said. Although you showed Two-Point Campus in your list near the end, now I loved Two-Point Hospital and the devs genuinely seemed great and loved their games, then they went and used drag queens to help advertise Campus, so yeah not great.

Agree with most of this, but the character creator not having "gender" isn't a valid criticism. Sex is handled through sliders, just like it was in SR2.
Weirdly though the character creator makes it quite difficult to give your character anything but black hair and eyes, as there are no natural preset colours. The preset colours are all MS Paint tier basics which don't work for natural hair or eyes. And in fact from playing into it a few minutes, there don't seem to be any white NPCs.

I would love a remaster of 1 and 2, same type of gameplay, world building and multiple interiors to explore. One extra thing that I would want in 2, would be to have Troy Baker’s voice. I didn’t half enjoy Saints Row 3 as much, but that voice was by far one of the standout aspects of it.

This game was life changing. I saw the reviews where everyone compared it to saints row 2 which I am playing and having a good time with now, even if technically it’s a bit of a mess on PC so far

Do not touch any Saints Row game after SR2, it will ruin those memories you have with that game as they basically turn the characters and story into a joke MCU plot.
I was originally going to do games development as a career, but seeing how sanitised and political college was, I didn't bother. Imagine having woked on the new Saints Row, knowing how bad all the decisions are and knowing it will fail, only to lose your job after. That would be my nightmare.

Yes AAA gaming isn't in a great state at the moment, but we've got an entire history of games behind us we can still play. If there's anything you feel like you missed out in the past then maybe it's time to get to it. I never played Saints Row 2, Hitman Contracts, or Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, and even ones much older than those. Finally gonna get to it.
This isn't Saints Row, it's a Silicon Valley start-up simulator!
That's the main problem with this game and with other open world games is that they stopped respecting the lore of original games.
For example, the first Watch_Dogs despite the many gameplay problems and inconsistencies in the story, it got something right: it established a coherent lore. The game made the player understand that hacking is not a fairy-tale and that it can have bad consequences for hackers, and anyone involved in that. However, instead of developing the lore even further and create a better game for the franchise, they instead released Watch_Dogs 2 which completely break the lore established in the first game. Now we had Hipsters who would hack and attack big tech companies for fun. That's what destroyed Watch_Dogs.
That is exactly what is happening to Saints Row. The lore was established in the first game of a true gangster game and then enhanced with the SR2. SR3 had a good story of the gang's decadence which was poorly delivered. SR4 was the game that broke the lore with superpower and aliens. The Reboot should have brought back the lore from the original games. Instead, we have millennials with millennials problems playing gangsters for fun. It doesn't re-establish the lore which made players love the franchise in the first place. This is bad.
Saints Row was literally the Robot Chicken of Video games

That game haven't any debates around whether it's good or not, innit? People are arguing whether it's MEDIOCRE OR BAD. It was obvious to most people since announcement, in my opinion it raises even more concern why such a blatantly shitty pitch was greenlit into production.

So in about a month the reboot sold about 1 million copies, which is literally next to nothing. The CM is on a crusade against the old fans, so be sure to go into hiding or she might fly a drone into your house. Or worse, doxx you on an alt account after labeling you as a terrorist. The IP's value has evaporated so badly that only a spiritual successor can bring something to the table yet. Preferably made by an indie studio.
There is literally no review out on TH-cam, let alone any video out there on TH-cam at all that sheds a positive light on the game.

There are very few studios that i know that still stay true to their strength for decades. One that i know from 2 years ago is NihonFalcom, and it is the company that lit that fire of gaming in me back again while a lot of so called AAA games bored me to dead for almost decades.
Nihonfalcom made games that when you think “I like these characters I like this setting of the world” and they will keep developing the game world through multiple sequels, the characters that you like 10 yrs ago, are still exist in the world of latest games, the story expands world expands, new story, new characters to play with. Just that they are all live in the same world and it’s possible to meet those you like sometimes. I would say it’s the only company that make me look forward to playing game after works/study in this era, when bunches of modern western games are affected with incompetency of developer, bad business practices and management.
For me I think the same about Remedy Entertainment.They have maintained their potential to make great games with clear passion, but they cannot stand on their own with funding; thus them having the need to find investors. 3D Realms for Max Payne, Rockstar for Max Payne 2, Microsoft for Alan Wake and Quantum Break, 404 for Control, and Epic for Alan Wake 2.
They also have an ongoing collab with Smilegate for Crossfire X. (idk who wanted this but they probably took this for the bag lol)
