People ask for too many remakes, but this game out of all of them, especially in the Square Enix library, probably deserves it more than any other. I think the reason it hasn't been done is due to the sheer amount of content it would need to be fully executed.

Greatest game I ever played. A true marvel of an interactive story. I don't really ask for a remake of the game at this point, especially since I have no time for gaming nowadays... but an anime or a series of movies would be great. The closest we get to the latter, you did it well. Thanks a lot for all the work! For some new to the material, though, it might be nice to see more of the navigation and dialogues with NPCs, as well as fights, so as to provide even more insight to the world and lore.

Storytelling at its best, despite its flaws. I always found Xenogears to have such an enthralling narrative and character development. Of course, there's always room for improvement. As far as I'm concerned, it's up there at being one of the greatest stories ever put together, video game or otherwise...at least in terms of potential. My wish would be to have this story presented on a much grander scale (along with Chrono Trigger, FF7, Suikoden, etc.) such as a film series, an HBO/Netflix series, or even an anime series...and it would have to be done properly! Oh and let's not forget a game remake as well. Realistically, I know it won't ever happen, given the nature of the plot and its controversial references, etc. No harm in wishful thinking, though. Thank you so much for your hard work in putting this together, for it's the next best thing to fulfilling that wish. I am grateful!
One of the BEST rpgs made for Playstation. Soundtrack is phenomenal, characters are memorable, story is breathtaking and deep, gameplay is long, the secrets are fun to find, and the fight system is easy.
Krelian loved Sophia, but due to the Contact and Antitype relationship, Sophia was destined to be with Lacan. Krelian lost his faith in humanity and God because of Sophia's death. He wanted to make a God of his own, and Deus is out there, so that's within his power. Krelian also was extremely interested in nano machines and genetics. I wonder if Krelians main goal was to build a God of his own, or to learn a way to break the Contact/Antitype connection so he could have "Sophia"
I know I’m a parrot of every other person on the planet at this point, but this game needs to be remade. This story is too incredible to be left behind, even if it needs to be split up into two so that the second half can breathe a bit easier.

Thank you so much for making these videos! Really appreciated! I just have one slight suggestion. If possible, perhaps rename the chapter around the 2 hour mark to just "Betrayal". This was my first time experiencing this story, and I happened to see the chapter name there, and it kind of spoilt that section. I thankfully avoided seeing most of the chapter names (the chapter name appears at the bottom whenever you pause) but I think there might be a few other spoilers as well. I think naming each chapter something that fans will recognise but won't spoil for new viewers would be a good idea. But otherwise, really wonderful for you to put this all together!! Thank you!!

Watched the whole thing patiently and dilligently. What a ride. Felt a bit fanfic tier at times, but it's pretty complex. I guess the presentation just doesn't hold up that well in 2017 because I do regret spending the 18 hours on it. I'm not surprised they ran out of budget. ALmost every machine thing was animated, and there's so much unneccesary stuff in there that they could have saved budget on.

After months of casual watching... I am done. Probably the 5th time going through the story. But the last time was ages ago on my PS1. I still have both console and game around. But it'll be too tiresome to play it through. So, thanks for making this many-hours long video of the whole story....
The narration is excessive and it crams a little too much story in the second disc, but the last hour is an absolute banger and the game has an incredible ending to close it out, making it all worthwhile.

It's a very creative story. Biblical references are quite common in similar games. Balthazar, melchior, christ portrail etc. I suppose I understand your criticism, however the game doesn't claim to be any kind of retelling of the bible or anything.
I think the writers were so keen to incorporate a ton of ideas and were caught up on it, including influences from the movies Solaris, Soylent Green, Power Rangers, Pokemon (Chu-Chu is practically a giant Pikachu.) If you ever watch Solaris they incorporate some Vedic mythologies which influence the way the story develops, which may have factored into including other religious themes for Xenogears. I'm just glad I got to watch the ending of Disc 2 after deciding I didn't want to spend the time devoted to playing it, and even with 1.75x speed playback, I paused it numerous times while falling asleep even if it is an interesting story, I felt far less inspired to follow it, as even with all it's attempts at "telling the story" it just seemed even more convoluted than it needed to be (and I consider this story to be one of the most memorable and perhaps inspirational even in spite of the evident story tropes, but it really gets that respect from the first disc.) I could also tell that other Squaresoft games factored into influencing this such as the Elements are Axem (aka Power) Rangers from Super Mario RPG, etc used as comic relief in much the same way. Religion was used to convey a duality concept but also it really captures the gist of occult religion concepts, which few religious-inspired stories are able to capture partly because they didn't want to be biased in how they interpreted these ideas, though I am a bit surprised they were willing to release this game in the US, because Squaresoft was known to have other great games that were pretty good and not as risky. Of course, the game also was influenced by Voltron, Transformers, Gundam, Evangelion, etc.
@@CatoptricCistula Yeah, I noticed a drop in quality here when the mutant outbreaks started, and the story got super repetitive and random. Definitely should've gone through another editing phase. The ending was good though.

People ask for too many remakes, but this game out of all of them, especially in the Square Enix library, probably deserves it more than any other. I think the reason it hasn't been done is due to the sheer amount of content it would need to be fully executed.
Without Takahashi, a remake would be a disaster. Some things are better left in the past.

Greatest game I ever played. A true marvel of an interactive story. I don't really ask for a remake of the game at this point, especially since I have no time for gaming nowadays... but an anime or a series of movies would be great.

For some new to the material, though, it might be nice to see more of the navigation and dialogues with NPCs, as well as fights, so as to provide even more insight to the world and lore.

Storytelling at its best, despite its flaws. I always found Xenogears to have such an enthralling narrative and character development. Of course, there's always room for improvement. As far as I'm concerned, it's up there at being one of the greatest stories ever put together, video game or otherwise...at least in terms of potential. My wish would be to have this story presented on a much grander scale (along with Chrono Trigger, FF7, Suikoden, etc.) such as a film series, an HBO/Netflix series, or even an anime series...and it would have to be done properly! Oh and let's not forget a game remake as well. Realistically, I know it won't ever happen, given the nature of the plot and its controversial references, etc. No harm in wishful thinking, though. Thank you so much for your hard work in putting this together, for it's the next best thing to fulfilling that wish. I am grateful!
These kinds of themes aren't that controversial anymore. They're kinda tame here compared to SMT.
One of the BEST rpgs made for Playstation. Soundtrack is phenomenal, characters are memorable, story is breathtaking and deep, gameplay is long, the secrets are fun to find, and the fight system is easy.

Krelian loved Sophia, but due to the Contact and Antitype relationship, Sophia was destined to be with Lacan. Krelian lost his faith in humanity and God because of Sophia's death. He wanted to make a God of his own, and Deus is out there, so that's within his power. Krelian also was extremely interested in nano machines and genetics. I wonder if Krelians main goal was to build a God of his own, or to learn a way to break the Contact/Antitype connection so he could have "Sophia"

I know I’m a parrot of every other person on the planet at this point, but this game needs to be remade. This story is too incredible to be left behind, even if it needs to be split up into two so that the second half can breathe a bit easier.

I just have one slight suggestion. If possible, perhaps rename the chapter around the 2 hour mark to just "Betrayal". This was my first time experiencing this story, and I happened to see the chapter name there, and it kind of spoilt that section. I thankfully avoided seeing most of the chapter names (the chapter name appears at the bottom whenever you pause) but I think there might be a few other spoilers as well. I think naming each chapter something that fans will recognise but won't spoil for new viewers would be a good idea.

Watched the whole thing patiently and dilligently. What a ride. Felt a bit fanfic tier at times, but it's pretty complex. I guess the presentation just doesn't hold up that well in 2017 because I do regret spending the 18 hours on it. I'm not surprised they ran out of budget. ALmost every machine thing was animated, and there's so much unneccesary stuff in there that they could have saved budget on.

Disc 2 whilst id didn’t get properly done its not nearly as bad as some people make it out to be....
The narration is excessive and it crams a little too much story in the second disc, but the last hour is an absolute banger and the game has an incredible ending to close it out, making it all worthwhile.

Good lore good story, but the gameplay is fuckin awful
the story was a mess, interesting ideas but...man...the story and abuse of *copyrighted* biblic references ! if they want make a remake of Xenogears, they have to fix a bunch of things seriously
Uh, the Bible is public domain, arguably the first work of man to be held as such; definitely not subject to any copyright.
It's a very creative story. Biblical references are quite common in similar games. Balthazar, melchior, christ portrail etc. I suppose I understand your criticism, however the game doesn't claim to be any kind of retelling of the bible or anything.

I think the writers were so keen to incorporate a ton of ideas and were caught up on it, including influences from the movies Solaris, Soylent Green, Power Rangers, Pokemon (Chu-Chu is practically a giant Pikachu.) If you ever watch Solaris they incorporate some Vedic mythologies which influence the way the story develops, which may have factored into including other religious themes for Xenogears.
I'm just glad I got to watch the ending of Disc 2 after deciding I didn't want to spend the time devoted to playing it, and even with 1.75x speed playback, I paused it numerous times while falling asleep even if it is an interesting story, I felt far less inspired to follow it, as even with all it's attempts at "telling the story" it just seemed even more convoluted than it needed to be (and I consider this story to be one of the most memorable and perhaps inspirational even in spite of the evident story tropes, but it really gets that respect from the first disc.) I could also tell that other Squaresoft games factored into influencing this such as the Elements are Axem (aka Power) Rangers from Super Mario RPG, etc used as comic relief in much the same way.
Religion was used to convey a duality concept but also it really captures the gist of occult religion concepts, which few religious-inspired stories are able to capture partly because they didn't want to be biased in how they interpreted these ideas, though I am a bit surprised they were willing to release this game in the US, because Squaresoft was known to have other great games that were pretty good and not as risky.
Of course, the game also was influenced by Voltron, Transformers, Gundam, Evangelion, etc.
@@CatoptricCistula Yeah, I noticed a drop in quality here when the mutant outbreaks started, and the story got super repetitive and random. Definitely should've gone through another editing phase. The ending was good though.
