Appreciate the transparency between all of you at 1:09:16. Look, $100K+ is a lot to purchase a car with, but it's not $1 million. I certainly can't afford to purchase a car within that range (I drive a $40K MSRP Audi, and that's a lot of car and privilege for someone middle class), but that's the reality of the car collector market.
@@josephregan1007 He said the emira didnt sound good, ..... then immediately said it was an awesome package, a BIG improvement over the evora (wrong on both counts). Interior and looks aside, the evora is marginally lighter and looking pretty good on the used car market atm (personally i perfer the looks of the evora anyway)
@@stevencahill3628 Truly have no idea where people are coming from when they say the Emira/Evora don't sound good, but I suppose sounds are as subjective as looks. I know I'd be thrilled to get into one, though I do wish that engine revved just a bit higher.
Again, great content Matt and Zack. I did not know these guys before the show, but you consistently get really insightful and interesting guests on. Kudos.
Considering they make some of the best cars ever made, and it's not even close, I think it makes sense that their products are being praised on a car podcast.
Not sure what the name of the show was in dubai that jimmy oakes had on his channel, but they took over a parking garage and did custom graffiti displays and all these themed areas specifically to act as a backdrop for photography. Not the same scale but it was cool
Great listen, good work Zack and Matt, as usual. Though it's probably the most hypocritical talk I've ever heard. These guys moan about marketing and "who approved this" but then simultaneously buy into sport classic stuff and even get matching watches. Hilarious. Almost textbook Porsche-weenies
I agree it would be very hard to come close to Luft. I think something having to do with Porsche styling being consistent through the years and having a wide array of colors helps. I did however realize maybe Larry Chen could help do something in the import scene, Skylines only. R32/33/34 maybe older.
As someone who commented about your Luft article, I think the disagreement came around what makes it the "Most Successful". Seemed the argument was "most Instagrammable". Ive seen so many car shows come and go through the years, i have a hard time not ranking longevity as the main metric for "Successful". Other than that, the article was great. The amount of effort involved in curating and setting up the show would make me a bit skeptical it would continue at this level. Seems ripe for issues/conflict. Hope not, but thats usually how these things go.
I would say bmw is close behind Porsche with the fandom and acceptance of stock retro and modified. Probably has something to do with every bmw owner wishing they had a Porsche.
Totally agree with Matt. It’s so crazy how nobody has been able to replicate Luft with another manufacture. I really think only BMW has the same cache with young people and general culture as Porsche. At least older BMW’s. I personally would love to go to a Luft BMW event
I want to agree with you here. I feel like something is missing with BMW. I don’t find their news cars as compelling as the old ones. I just don’t find them interesting. (Could be said about many new cars) And part of it is the durability of their engineering where it seems like the cars are simply built to not last the test of time. One shouldn’t have to look at owning a modernist BMW out of warranty with the same trepidation as a Maserati. Too many known flaws that can mechanically total a car.
Maybe Honda? I think the problem for many OEMs that were enthusiast driven for decades is that this began to change and no longer drove sales or engineering of future products.
Luft is an art exhibition. It won't work without Geoff and that is why no one has done it publicly. To your point BMW did an exhibition of their Art Cars in Europe in Modern Art buildings and this has something that Porsche can't touch as other than the 917 hippy paint or 962 pink pig they never really stepped into art. To Matt's question, I think the fact that this is now a water cooled event means they have run the course of the 356/911 in pretty locations and odd colour combos and it's going to be Disneyland for Porsche people, pay your $100 to queue to take the photo. Toyota/Honda could do the same type of thing visually with the Shikoku Junrei, which is the pilgrimage to all 88 Shinto shrines you need to visit in your lifetime with Larry Chen. Renault or Citroen could do this as they have a broader spread of cars visually but this won't appeal to Americans.
49:10. Porsche will not allow delivery of a new vehicle with an open recall/campaign. The charger cable is likely an open campaign and thus a “stop sale”
Why are you beating the pee pee out that P car with the coolant that cold and making like 11.5 volts lol (gauges on the wall). That being said love the podcast
Grand sieko is the one that made the quartz movement or whatever which is the movement rolex uses I like Tudor as well which is made out of the Rolex factory and believe owned by Rolex and they also have same movement I got a gmt paid retail back when ya could go threw dealers safe to Say that'll be my first and last Rolex unfortunately
It seems Matt and his pink/ frozen berry spec 718 are the laugh of the e car celeb town. @1:58:03 I've actually warmed on the spec after going thru the process myself. I too was intrigued with the combining the optional red/black interior with the frozen berry paint - then I saw Matt's spec. Maybe unrelated but the frozen berry is now "unavailable." Never buy a new car until you see exact pictures and take it for a drive. I thought Matt learned that with the Focus. Tho the red/black interior and silver paint seems the best combo, but Matt's choice is understandable, and looks better with time, like the new M3 nose.
Respect to these dudes but I always feel like eps like these are the least relateable content TST puts out. Rich dudes talking about rich dude stuff in a completely out-of-touch manner. That's not to say they're not an interesting listen, but boy is it less and less tasteful as each year goes by.
Matt. I get you want a high quality podcast but the way you spoke to him for leaning away from the mic was out of order. It’s not the first time, and for me it lowers the quality of the podcast far more than the odd bang on the table or distant mic speech. It also makes you come across as quite rude and condescending.
@@fraserwright9482 I feel like they still talk about a lot of different cars. Porsche is one of the biggest brands and Matt owns one so it’s not a surprise that it gets a lot of time on the show.
