Reliving The War takes a look at the WWF vs WCW Monday Night Wars. WCW Nitro and WWF Raw were on television screens at the same time and fans had to choose which show they watched on a Monday Night, this series takes a look at both shows on a single night while comparing each and every match, promo and segment.
We've reached December 1996. The WWF presents a taped show from New Haven, Connecticut while WCW Nitro is live from Dayton, Ohio. WCW is on the road to Starrcade 96 where Hulk Hogan will battle Roddy Piper, the WWF are promoting In Your House: It's Time where Sycho Sid defends his WWF championship against Bret Hart.
On Monday Nitro, The US Title Tournament continues when Lord Steven Regal faces Chris Benoit. In the main event, Rick Steiner challenges Sting to a one on one match. Over on the WWF channel, Shawn Michaels asks for more interview time as the former WWF champion discusses Sycho Sid and Survivor Series 1996 again. In the WWF main event, Hunter Hearst Helmsley teams up with Billy Gunn to face Jake Roberts and Marc Mero.

Scott Hall really has a genius mind for wrestling. That Sting reason for the zoomed out camera was inspired.

Flash Funk or Too Cold Scorpio was SEVERELY underrated during this time period. Every time I see him do a top rope manoeuvre, he executes them perfectly. He should have had a much bigger push in the WWE at the time. I'm always impressed with his in-ring work, not sure how good he is on the mic though.

probably his attitude held him back, based on what I saw of him on Dark Side of the Ring (the North Korea episode) and other interviews.
He was too far ahead of the times.
In my opinion? Which ain't worth all THAT much.. but 2 Cold on tha mic? Same, and well met. His ring-work so solid and ahead of the game... but his mic?
Sting's segment alone and the zoom out call by Hall on commentary for Benoit and Regal was genius. Loved Nitro's ending, can't say enough good things.
Jimmy Hart has a great mind for the business too. And he wrote some of the best entrance music in wrestling history.
Watching Scott Steiner slowly morph in to Big Poppa Pump is surreal knowing where this road ends.

I was actually at that London show as a kid and I remember three things in particular about it. 1) Steve Austin took what felt like an hour to make his entrance, 2) The whole crowd were begging to see Bret Hart all night and 3) BARRY HARROWITZ WON A MATCH!!!

@@Skip2TheEnd I envy you not only have I never been to an attitude era show in live person but I've never been to a wrestling show. Except for one indie show by the Samoan dynasty and I did see rikishi wrestle but other than that I wish I could go back in time and watch live wrestling when it was great

I never understood why WCW spent so much time hyping up Glacier for months. Giving them all those promo videos. To do absolutely nothing with him. He was supposed to be some martial arts guy, obviously a Sub-Zero rip off, perhaps he could have been used in the cruiser weight division or perhaps formulate a hardcore style for him, where he fought against wrestlers such as Meng. Have him tag with a Scorpion rip off character, but to do nothing with him after all the hype 🤨
@@martynodonnell8467 Well the "Blood Runs Cold" angle with Mortis throughout 1997 at least gave him something to do for a short while. But all that accomplished was showing that Mortis was head and shoulders above him in terms of talent. Chris Kanyon would have a decent career in WCW after he dropped the Mortis gimmick, while Glacier would just fade into obscurity.

But his physique was bigger upper body (though he was a big guy already)

I remember This episode of Raw, it was my 11th birthday and I had only been watching wrestling for maybe a few months and I was slowly starting to get hooked around this time. If only I was 11 again 😞

Mark Curtis was an awesome ref. He famously took down a fan in a choke during a Malenko/Psychosis match in 1997.
He was so respected in the business, all three major companies honored his death.

@@RichardJaspering always thought it was stupid that they even paired them together. HBK was a somewhat edgy character, putting his old mentor with him just made him a generic white meat babyface.

He is mostly known for a satanic gimmick in the 80s mostly renowned for his heel work and heel physiology he was the one doing most of the booking during the mid 90s in wcw known as a booker who followed the bosses visions and didn’t try to push himself

im so stoked for this series and this channel... i love that ive been watching this series since jump street and im like so stoked that we are sooooooo close to 1997 when everything is going to start getting crazy.... its crazy to think that after 60 episodes herer we are in december of 1996.... some of the stuff i see here my brain goes ''omfg i forgot this ever happened''.. but then other things i dont remember because in december of 96 i was 8 years old turning 9 in june of 97... lol only so many wrestling matches from before the attitude era stuck with me.. once wcw and wwf/wwe really hit their stride in 97 and 98 i really feel like i can recall everything vividly as if it happened yesterday hahaha

My only suggestion is too release the new episodes Monday night at the time both shows had started...as in line with the series.
This would help everyone when to know a new episode is up and being that I look forward to the new episodes as much as I did when the wrestling was live in my youth, it would just be another nice connection to our past. As this series already exceeds our expectations, all I can really say is THANK YOU!
