Reliving The War takes a look at the WWF vs WCW / Raw vs Nitro Monday Night Wars that took place in during the mid to late 90's and early 2000's. With WWF Raw airing on the USA Network and WCW Nitro broadcasting live on TNT at the same time, fans had to choose which program they would watch, and this series takes a look at what was on each channel while comparing every match, promo and segment of the Monday Night Wars.
On WCW Monday Nitro, The Outsiders challenge Meng & The Barbarian to a main event tag team match. Hollywood Hogan appears too and he's looking for his Starrcade opponent Roddy Piper, and Kevin Sullivan takes out his frustrations on The Four Horsemen's Arn Anderson. By the time Nitro goes off the air, we end up with 2 new members in the nWo.
On the WWF channel, Bret Hart talks about what happened at In Your House: It's Time and how he feels about Stone Cold Steve Austin and Shawn Michaels getting involved in his WWF Championship match. We also get promos from Sycho Sid and Shawn Michaels, the finals of the Karate Fighters tournament, and Bart Gunn battles Billy Gunn in the main event.

This series has become must-watch viewing. Consider this guy sports-entertained.
One cool thing is sometimes what you liked bio doesn't and vis versa. It's funny what a younger you thought was cool and probably still is. Good Series.

Eh, got a long way to go. I agree though. It'll be a bittersweet day when it's over. This show is better than modern wrestling.
You can always go back and rewatch the entire series again.

Heartbreaker Sam Mangles makes me think of a generic wrestling action figure that vaguely resembles HBK.
I thought he said 'Shawn Merkels', as though he was considering a career as the Chancellor of Germany.
In fairness, though, if Michaels had come in to the WWE from the indies circa 2010, "The Heartbreaker Sam Mangles" probably is what he'd have been called.

Yeah unfortunately once WCW went out of business WWE also fairly quickly became much less enjoyable. Such an exciting time to be a fan. Due to the nature of media, there will never be another true “wrestling war”. I was a perfect age for The Monday Night War also. Although at the time I only had access to Nitro, on a Friday here in UK. I didn’t realise back then there was “a war” I viewed them as two independent companies. I thought WCW was more a place where the bigger stars of yesterday went to retire.

@@martynodonnell8467 it kinda reminds me of Madden NFL and NFL 2k. When NFL 2k5 came out, it scared EA and made EA push out a better Madden product, then when EA bought exclu rights to the NFL, Madden games went downhill. Basically, competition makes better products, and with WWE holding the monopoly, they get to send turd through tv screens despite fans wanting better. sad
Hogan had to appear on Nitro so he would get the 25% of the gate.
And he was awhole lot better than whatever raw had going on.

Just remember it's always darkest before the dawn. Next week we see WWF at the bottom. From then on, there's nothing but the climb. The climb that gives us arguably the greatest, most entertaining era in pro wrestling history. I can't wait. It's been a pleasure going on this journey with y'all and I look forward to continuing it.

1998 was considered one of the best years in Wrestling with Raw and Nitro trading Rating Wins
@@timbartschwolfman I’ve always found 1997 more exciting as a whole. By the time 1998 came around the NWO felt stale and had run it’s course and although WWF was exciting. I found 1997 to have more which held my attention.
Thursdays make me excited for wrestling again like the old days! Can’t thank you enough man.

@@makaveli4205 I think it slowly died after WCW went out of business. It was watchable during the mid 2000s, two characters made me turn off, JBL then when he went away we were hit with King Booker. Couldn’t get back into it after that.
That company died when they changed the name to WWE.

FINALLY the Bret VS fake Razor match we've all been waiting for
I was actually at this episode of RAW. At the end of the Billy and Bart match you can see the medics wearing jackets that had TGH on the back. TGH stands for Tampa General Hospital and those of us that were close to the ring thought that something really did happen to Billy because
1: Why would they send real medical personnel to the ring? and 2: We could hear Billy's wife screaming and cussing out Bart.
Still to this day I can't believe the WWF worked me over like that 😔

When the faces split up and Meng had his undefeated streak in either 97 or 98,, I have no idea why they didn’t at least make Meng the TV Champ.

I always wonder when the Benoit storyline turned into the truth. Like were they already in a real relationship during this episode?
It says the affair started in 97, but iv been watching these nitros for months and it’s blatantly obvious something is going on with both of them. One promo I remember is Flair saying Benoit was driving the girls wild all night and you can see Nancy rolling her eyes.
So yeah maybe she officially left Sullivan in 1997? Pretty sure that’s when she retired from managing, with Kevin as head booker, she probably lost her job.

It's a shame that Billy Gunn got saddled with Rockabilly when he returned a few months later, because he looked really cool in that black duster jacket. "The Outlaw" Billy Gunn would have been simple but effective gimmick for him, and would have allowed for perfect naming sense when he & Jessie James later teamed up & became the New Age Outlaws.
Also, I'm honestly amazed that nWo Souled Out was announced by way of a simple promotion via commentary. I would have figured that it was announced via an in-ring promo by Bischoff, where he gloats about all the power he has, so he gives "the good guys" their own PPV, just because he can. Weird.
Makes you wonder why Jesse James didn't get paired with the Honky Tonk Man seeing as he already had a singing gimmick

Been waiting for this. Not in to wrestling at all, haven't been since end of the 90s early 00s, but 80s 90s I was hooked as a kid so love watching this, some episodes brings back memories of being at mine or my cousins having sleep over watching wrestling 😅🤣
It is sad to say. However wrestling has only ever been enjoyable during a select few years. The 80s boom and The Monday Night Wars era most notably. It’s a form of entertainment that’s spent more years being either sub par, boring or unwatchable, than good entertainment.

We're almost getting close to Bret harts heel turn as this promo he cut on this raw was planting the seeds for a Bret hart heel turn. Also bulldog helping Bret Hart was also planting the seeds for the eventual hart foundation in 1997.

Love this Series and watch it each night, I know this will come to an end however when it does I would love to see it continue with the WWE 2000s as would be a good watch with your perspective
